Elizabeth Bandores struggles like most girls*I received a copy of this Warwick House Press, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review *
Elizabeth Bandores struggles like most girls her age. Only, she doesn't struggle with just the average growing pains. She's a Dhampyre, part vampire, part human. Oh, and she also has the ability of her touch bringing her glimpses into a person's life. Past, present, or future. Growing up could be tough, especially having to explain her father's "sun allergy" and avoiding physical contact when possible, but she has loving parents who supported her. Wanting to go away to school and try her hand at being "normal" takes some convincing but she does it. She is officially a student in a sleepy town called Sage Springs. When a freak accident and a carnival welcome her into her new town, she's wondering if it's just her luck or an omen of what's to come. Add a mysterious and attractive carnie named Riley, who seems to always be around when things go wrong, and Elizabeth is about the go on the journey of her life.
Even though this isn't the genre I really read much of anymore, I still really enjoyed this story. It felt slightly more YA than New Adult, even though the characters were NA age. Not to say the characters were excessively immature, just the opposite, they read like their age but in a positive way. It just had that feel. Besides her gift and parentage, Elizabeth is a normal girl trying to find her place in the world, it made her easy to bond with and follow her story. The levels and secrets of the story were a little predictable if you looked hard enough but intriguing. There seemed to be a supporting character for everyone. Ones to love and loath, ones you cheered when they met their demise, a few you forgot about, and others you hope pop up in future writing. Riley followed the bad boy with a chained up soft spot story to a t, ultimately just doing what he knew and coming through as the book went on. The coven and magic was detailed and brought more action to the writing. Overall, a fun rainy night read. ...more

Rajmund Gregor knows it's just a matter of time before he takes over and becomes vampire lord of the Northeast territory. Perfectly happy running Manhattan and the surrounding city it's a responsibility he never wanted, but knows there is no one else to succeed the wilting lord. Vampire Lord Krystof, his sire, calls him to handle an issue that has come up in Buffalo. Girls are missing and the local police force seems to be pointing their fingers at the vampire population. Rajmund must get to the bottom of it and calm the masses before there is an even bigger problem at hand.
Sarah Stratton isn't the person everyone thinks she is, the safe relatively boring professor at a local university. Her dark past and secrets haunt her every night when she closes her eyes. She tried to share her secret and do good with it once upon a time, until her own parents didn't believe her and locked her up in an asylum. A new name and a fresh start haven't stopped the nightmares, or the girls who come to her in her dreams needing her help. When they start back up again she knows she needs to do something before these die like the last ones. A night out when her best friend Cynthia Leighton visits with her vampire lover and Northwest vampire lord Raphael, puts her face to face with the tall and handsome vampire Rajmund. A man that haunts her day time thoughts while the faceless terror haunts her nights.
When the two cross paths later one, both on the hunt for answers involving the missing girls, both are forced to confront what they feel for each other, while racing the clock to save the latest victims.
D.B. Reynolds has done it again! Book 3 of The Vampires in America Series is as action packed and chemistry laden as the first 2. New characters and a new territory bring a fresh take to the world of vampires that go bump in the night that we've become so fond of. I was a little sad that Cyn and Raphael wouldn't be as prominent in this one but it still held it's own. Sarah wasn't quite the take no prisoner woman Cyn is, and did get on my nerves at times, but she was a well written and complex character that complimented Rajmund well. And for Rajmund, while he's not our tall dark and handsome vampire lord, he brings a power and charisma all his own. Both had in your face chemistry together and history laced with trials and tribulations. The mystery of the missing girls was action packed and suspenseful, keeping you glued to the pages. A fantastic series that I will continue for as long as it is written!...more

D.B. Reynolds has done it again, made me fall in love with this series. This time, set in Houston, Texas where our resident PI and general bad ass Cynthia "Cyn" Leighton has taken a job for a new vampire lord, Jabril Karim, in hopes of escaping the memories of Raphael haunting her daily life. Unfortunately, this one is nothing like the man Cyn has fallen in love with, and she finds her life once again threatened, only this time by the vampire she let in on her own.
This series so far has proven to be a drug, I can't get enough. The action is fast paced and flawless, transporting the reader to a world of drool worthy vampires and the take no prisoners private investigator that works for them. Further adhering herself to a top spot on my favorite heroines, Cyn reminds me again why she was on it in the first place. While not heartless, and showing vulnerability at times, she can survive in a mans world, even if those men have fangs. I fully admit to actually having tears in my eyes at one part, the story had that much emotional strength. Raphael is of course delicious, an alpha man with a brain and emotions that wraps you around his 300 year old finger. The side characters that you fell in love with in the first installment are back and only building from here. Reynolds' writing is detail laced, building an alternative reality. I can't recommend this series enough. ...more

Ty Duncan isn't the man he used to be. He's a vampire. Forced into a world that he never knew existed, he finds himself trying to make the most of it. A recruiter for a secret agency know as Belladonna, he is responsible for helping keep the shadows a secret from the world and reigning in rogue vampires. His next assignment just might bring him to his knees. Ana Martin is an ex- gang member who is constantly reminded of her past and her biggest failure, her sister. Never willing to give up on finding her, she's unable to resist when a handsome stranger approaches her with information leading to her location. What she never planned on was becoming immersed in a whole new world of violence riddled with ties to her past, along with fighting a desire for this stranger she never thought possible.
Turned was a great start to a new world full of imagination and secrets. Ty wasn't the typical dark brooding alpha vampire that's so often portrayed, he was written as a realistic, albeit very sexy and British, character who had charm and flaws. I love characters with flaws because of the ability to relate vs. some magical creature that doesn't sneeze, trip or ever say the wrong thing. He was definitely easier for me to connect to than Ana but she was a tough and troubled woman who put loyalty above herself and redeemed herself as she allowed her vulnerability to show. Their struggles were human and raw. The Belladonna agency, as well as it's government links, were creative and original and built into a world that made you wonder if it really existed. This was a story that kept you turning the page. ...more

Ingrid is a detective not afraid to push the boundaries of the law to put the bad guy behind bars. Orpheus is the vampire who brands her to keep her safe when she unknowingly gets herself too deep in the underworld. Enter a hidden world of nightwalkers and missing persons where nothing is as it seems and once you're in there's no getting out.
Finally a great vampire book that isn't overly cliqued and flowery. Bohemian was a dark paced mystery with a good dose of romance. The story wasn't overly filled up with unnecessary details. Ingrid and Orpheus were unique and engrossing characters, well developed, and easy to relate to. The side characters can make or break a book and these certainly made it. The hierarchy of the nightwalkers and the world they lived in was interesting. It's hard to get more in depth without spoilers for the series but it's going on my recommendation list for all vampire lovers! ...more

Amidst an age old battle of good vs. evil she must decide between the two of them, the one fated for her or the one that holds her heart.
Blackwood: Lily, the brain child between two authors to make up the dynamic duo of R.L. Kirk is promising to be an amazing voice in the paranormal romance genre. The writing is so smooth I would have never guessed it was two separate minds that filled the pages, and the world is one that is so realistic and well built that it leaves you looking around you, wondering if there are bigger secrets out there. Lily, Wallace and Bryn make up a love triangle full of every emotion. Heat, angst, heartbreak, drama, this book had it all. Lily was a spoiled brat, a princess, but there was growth to her character as we went along. Bryn and Wallace were fantastic characters that made you fall in love with them, unable to choose any more than Lily. Even though it's a series and there is much more to tell, there were luckily no cliffhangers, leaving you hanging for the next book. ...more

Mia's Return is the second novella in the Destiny's Trinities series.
Mia has always loved Alexander, fantasized about his touch even before she was experienced enough to be touched. Alexander always kept his distance, Mia was too good for him. He got himself wrapped up in the criminal games that would put her at too much risk. Not to mention, her brother would have him killed for touching her. When his criminal working catch up to him, Mia gets the news that Alexander has been killed, so why is she seeing him 10 years later in a crowded elevator? Her life is further changed when she meets a mysterious, handsome and scarred man named Wyatt who reveals Alexander's secrets, and has an important role to play of his own.
Mia's return is much better than the first one. I really feel strongly that these novellas would be so much better if they weren't so rushed. The bonding is rushed, the sex is rushed, the action and fact finding is rushed. There is just too much story to cram onto so few pages. Luckily my problem with not enough character development in the first one wasn't as bad here, there was more focus on the characters since the world building was already established. The other characters are all fun but so so for me, however I loved Wyatt. Unfortunately, we didn't meet him till 50% in but he is by far my favorite character. The story is an interesting one, a creative world of trinities and a war brewing but the dialogue and actions sometime feel cheesy. The writing bothered me because it would transition from choppy, almost reading like a manual to elaborate and almost like it was written in another time. I definitely enjoyed this one more than the first. I was really hoping to love these since the genre fits me perfectly. ...more

Wrong, the sex was somewhat lacking. ****This book was part of a blog tour I was given copy for my honest review**** The world isn't what it used to be. Five years ago the vampires that the world had long since dismissed as folklore and legends took over the world and caused the human race to almost become extinct, along with what remains to scatter to shelters and scavenge for food and supplies. Isabelle is determined to do something about it. Watching family friends and the general human population starve, die off from illness, or worse get attacked and drained by vampires has her taking action. She comes up with a goal, to surrender to the king, become his pet, and kill him to send chaos into the ranks long enough for the humans to do something. However, things aren't always what they seem and the king may not be the monster she planned on. This book was so hard to rate for me, I almost want to give it two different ratings. The first half was a 2-2 1/2 stars and I was really thinking this may be a dreaded DNF. However, once we got rolling in to the second half it became a 3 1/2 star and I was completely ready to dive into the next one had it been available. I think there are some repetitive phrasing and facts in the first half that bothered me, as well as the fact that there are quite a few Twilight similarities. While I understand this was NOT the intention of the author, as someone who has read the book, I couldn't help make the connection whether I truly wanted to or not. Thankfully these calmed down as the book got going and it took a life of it's own. The concept and synopsis had me itching for it so I'm very happy it started to deliver. I realize the first book in a series can be the hardest with the world building and character development, but I have a feeling as this series progresses this is going to be a great set of books. The characters really helped with that. Diane Bocco has created strong characters that stick with you, display strength as well as a "human side, and a great plot that keeps you guessing. ...more

Vampires and hybrids have overrun my world, once vibrant with life, but now a graveyard of death shrouded in shadows. I fight to survive; I fight for my mother and brother. The journey is full of turns that I am quite unprepared for. And I'm just hoping to make it to the next Vegas sunrise..."
New author on my radar! This book was such an intense thrill ride. In a time where post-apocalyptic novels are abundant this book still brought a fresh spin that held my attention from the beginning. April's journey is a violent and bloody one as she discovers the tattered remains of her world aren't what she thought they were. I really respected April. She's young, 17, and instead of allowing herself to become a victim she adapts to survive the best she can, teaching herself how to fight and arming herself. She doesn't get cocky and go out guns blazing though, she remains smart. Even after her family is taken she devises a plan. It was nice to see a young characters not be displayed as some ditzy hormone filled body. There were twists and turns I didn't see coming and the story was well written and fast paced. The world was so intricately developed and realistic that you got sucked into an alternate universe where this was the real world. I definitely recommend this one and as of 10/7/2013 it's free on Amazon! ...more

I loved that we got more Eric but I hated the ending! Broke my heart. The one thing that irritates me with these books is there is a lot of unnecesary detail about some things and then not enough about others. I was warned this was a very sex heavy series but I feel like there is so much build up and then the "love scenes" aren't that well written. They're rushed and lacking something. I've come to expect great things from Larissa Ione. I have yet to read a book by her I don't love, and this one is no exception... Nicole Martin is plagued by nightmares of the events of her childhood. In a world where vampires have been forced into roles of servitude Nicole has grown up in a wealthy home where her nanny, cook, gardener, and many other roles in her household. No one saw it coming when the vampires rebelled, leaving Nicole almost completely alone and with more scars than what shows on the outside. Riker is part of clan MoonBound, and has a deep hatred for the Martins. His mate Terese, was their nanny and one of the lives lost the day of the rebellion. He blames the Martins for breaking her long before that day. To get back what was taken from them, and to avoid war between another clan, Riker kidnaps Nicole to get it back. Her family's company, Daedalus, is the one who has what he's after. But what happens when things are nothing like they seem? And two people that hate each other start seeing the other side of things. There is so much action in this book, it will hold your attention from page 1 to the very last line. Nicole I was back and forth about but I ended up enjoying her character. Riker was a sexy bad boy that bites. Really, what more could a girl ask for? The supporting characters were awesome and I'm very much looking forward to the other books in this series! Myne and Hunter have a lot to tell I'm sure. ...more
