Also deals with medical ethics as they intersected with race in the 1950s--the family was not informed about the sample or the use to which the cells were put--and with the affect the HeLa cells' remarkable longevity had on the donor's family and on some of the researchers.
The book takes a sharp left into the sentimental in the last little bit, which startled me. Otherwise recommended without reservation.(less)
