If I thought it would do any good, I would beg and plead for a follow-up novella. Unfortunately, I don't think it would help. This series is outstanding and I highly recommend it!
I am going to be thinking about these books for the rest of the weekend... Gah! Who wants to talk about this with me?(less)

A few weeks back, I finally got around to reading Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. All the reviews I read about it were excellent, but it took me some time to get to it. On the one hand, I'm glad I waited since I didn't have to wait too long to read Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2). You know how I hate to wait. On the other hand, WHAT WAS I WAITING FOR???? Throne of Glass was absolutely excellent and, if I may be so bold, Crown of Midnight was even better!
Warning: If you haven't read Throne of Glass yet, there are (tiny) spoilers ahead!
From the very beginning of these books, it's clear that Sarah Maas has an intimate understanding of who these characters are. They are solid, three dimensional, love-to-hate or love-to-love characters. In the first book, Celaena is offered a "get out of jail free" card by Dorian, the crown prince, if she competes and wins a competition to become the King's Champion. She goes up against a bunch of other contenders and kicks ass throughout, eventually winning the title. That is when my girl-crush on Celaena began. This chick is tough, resilient, intelligent, sarcastic, funny... she is right up there on my list of favorite heroines of all time. In the first book, we got a sense of her cunning, her physicality, and fighting prowess. In this book, Maas builds upon that and Celaena's assassin skills are put into action. We see a whole other side to her—definitely a darker side—that will keep you wide-eyed and wowed throughout. Again, Bad. Ass.
"Death was her curse and her gift, and death had been her good friend these long, long years."
One of my absolute favorite aspects of the story in Crown of Midnight is the evolution of Chaol and Celaena's relationship. In Throne of Glass, Dorian fell for the slight little assassin, but in Crown of Midnight, Chaol gets his shot at love. Readers will be swept away by the intense emotional connection that Choal and Celaena experience. They are so good together, it's crazy! I mean, swoon, swoon, swoon!
Maas packs a little bit of everything into this book: action sequences, plot twists, big revelations, magic, love, loss, and, of course, a villain whose power is steadily increasing. All the characters face big challenges, and each has to deal with consequences related to choices they've made. Readers will be thrilled to learn more about Celaena's well-guarded history and even more about the castle and the secrets it holds. Get ready to melt, to swoon, to laugh, to cry, to shout... Crown of Midnight is going to leave you satisfied, but desperately longing for the next book. How long do we have to wait again? While you wait, you may be happy to know that there are four novellas set before Throne of Glass begins which give lots of insight into Celaena's time before Endovier.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. (less)

My favorite book in the series. The perfect intense, high octane, action-packed ending to The Artists Trilogy. Get ready, readers. This book will have you hooked from start to finish; gasping, laughing, crying, yelling, possibly throwing things. I don't know how Karina does it, but she has blown the lid off of this shit. I am in awe... (less)
