This book is the best in the series. It's been a long time since I read it so I can't give a great review but I do recall getting tired of Richard and Kahlan as the series progressed and stopped reading it but I have and will again reread this one. It's got some good quotes....more

The reason being that instead of vampires, shapeshifters, or fallen angels the author tries something new, Jinn! Admittedly if the author had used any of the cliché paranormal stuff I would have dropped the book before even getting 1/4 of the way in. The Jinn world is a bit inconsistent and very murky! Beyond the Sultan Jinn and his seven sons not even the war between the sultan and one of his sons is very clear. Ari's choice in forgetting things Charlie did got to the point of annoying me. Her powers are way over the top and there's no real explanation as to how she taps into being the seal. Overall despite these flaws I enjoyed it for its 'breath of fresh air' in its genre. It was worth the time and it was on sale so, worth a try... (I don't recommend it if you can't catch it on sale though)...more

I will say Kate acted a little younger in her whimsical emotions but I recall acting similar (no matter how annoying it was). I'm a sucker for hot scenes and it had enough to keep me reading to the next part. Typical YA though. (If she's college level it should have been more than what did occur, oh well)
My grievance though small weighs big on my over all score, which is, the story was very choppy. There was a point somewhere near half way where Kate is in mourning in her room and wanders out and then is back in her room with Flanna and Arland wanting to come in and there was no connection from her wandering out of her room to how and when she got back to it. That is just one example of the worst of it but it is scattered throughout.
Still it was good and who can argue with free. It was actually good enough to warrant me wanting to read the next one but not after I saw the price tag. Sorry but $5 is too much to pay for the risk of more choppy reading.
I would recommend this one though. It was still good enough....more

Yeah there are grammatical errors but that's to be expected in books like this and I'm hardly going to complain when I got the book for free. The flow was great and kept my attention for the most part. I give it four stars because there were a few areas the description felt dry or too long for me. I would find myself skipping forward at these parts to find something that would catch my interest to help me get through. It was really good otherwise. If I weren't so broke I'd buy the rest of the books in the series. The romance, adventure and comedy were nicely blended....more

The concept was pretty awesome but the consistency was terrible. I mean yeah there were a good few grammatical errors for example a spot in the book where the author used the word threw when it should have been through. I don't really pay much attention to those things though because I'm horrible at grammar. But... Spoiler alert: There are quite a few places where this book flips and flops back and forth like a fish out of water but the biggest one that keeps coming to my mind is the inconsistency of Ivy and Collen's supernatural bond. Seems like one minute thoughts could be read and the next not. One minute she was certain he wasn't lying to her because she could tell through the bond yet the next he was lying or deceived her... I mean seriously it actually got annoying to me that the supernatural bond seemed to flux with convenience of whether the characters needed to have the ability to deceive each other or not. It might not have been so bothersome of this bond had been better defined. And to be perfectly honest I do tire of these supernatural fantasy novels where the main characters have to be gothic/emo. When I was in high school I was quiet and shy but I wasn't nerdy, or goth, or emo, or super smart I was just average....more

It hit home on some important things especially when it comes to spending. It's the ONLY financial book that has been able to hold my attention to the end and I think it has gotten me more involved with my budget. Fun thing is I was actually just starting to realize one or two items on my own like getting cash out for parts of the budget like groceries, lol! I give it 4 stars for a few reason that might really almost make that it should be a 3 star. The biggest negative point is that there are points where he comes off bitter. I get it once or twice makes for a strong point but...it's a bit over done. My other negatives are really personal opinion, which are, I don't think debt is 100% evil (my point in that is some times we can't save up in time for an item and some debt you can get interest free, so what's the different in 0 interest and saving up?), and there are valid points to 1)not bank at a credit union and 2)bank with a large commercial bank. Like for my family my husband travels and we've had to do some big moving over the past few years. The charges you end up eating from ATMs that aren't your bank can be crazy! We once banked at a credit union and even a small time local bank neither of which we benefitted from doing. The credit union bank was the worst of the two. I say bank wise do your own research and think about what you want and need there are tons of options and don't search exclusively unions or banks look at all of them.
Overall this book was very helpful and has me thinking about a lot of things to try and help get our budget on track....more
