Instead, it's an emotional journey to understand God's love and forgiveness.
If you have some time and some tears to spare, go ahead and read it.(less)

I don't think it's the best written book ever, but I think it's a good summary of ways to live and how to be a better person.

Questioning concepts like grace and the interpretation of scriptures, the Tuscanos give readers the ability to take their religion in their own hands and make it the most fulfilling and spiritually progressive it can be.
Here are some topics I found especially engaging:
- Ways to look at world religions' creation stories and examining the story of Adam and Eve
- The distinction between an ideal religion and a holy religion
- The notion of priesthood as an ordination being separate from a calling from God.
- Ideas about the meaning behind temple symbols, clothing, and gestures.
I'm really a library reader, but this is one book I will have for my shelf and refer to frequently. (less)

He helps us understand what it feels like to be Jewish, and to be an artist, conflicting selves within one boy.

I had so many "ah-hah!" moments in this book, but like most self-help books, the trick is to apply the material to your everyday relationships.

This is just pulp, not much thinking, like watching an action movie in my head.
There are too many characters and side-plots to keep track of, and the Muslim threat of terrorism is overdone.
Yeah, three stars is very generous.(less)

After more than 20 years, this book is still pretty awesome, if you like Sci-Fi.

Set in early America, it explores how frontierspeople balanced their supernatural skills with emerging Christianity.

Overall, I really liked it. Levy is a good writer and makes excellent points. The chapter that I would skip, however, was about lesbian raunch culture, and it was just too detailed for my comfort, and didn't add anything to her thesis (from my heterosexual perspective).

So, I really liked this book. It was an easy read with entertaining short stories that linked to the main theme: our minds understand so much at first glance.
Unfortunately, the initial story, about an expensive sculpture in a museum was overused. The author tried to tie everything together, but it still came out a little jumbled.
At one point he suggested that when we are under severe stress (like police officers in a shoot out) our minds become like an autistic person. He didn't back up his point here and it seemed like quite a stretch despite his supporting stories.
Despite a few quirks, though, I really liked the book and it reminded me of Freakonomics, another book that changed the way I think of the world.
One of my takeaways from Blink is to smile more often, as it actual makes you happy from the inside out.
