I loved the mini-chapters - 127 in all. This was an interesting read - tons and tons of interaction/dailogue between the characters...of which was extremely engaging. The characters themselves were well written and you were able to get a sense of them from their very first introduction. The story itself is very, very unique and compelling and is based on an intriguing concept - all of the liquid in the world freezing at the same time - all caused by a chemical invented by the co-inventor of the atomic bomb. Although the book contained very little "action" until almost the end - the relationships between the characters kept me interested. I guess you have to have a natural curiosity to read a story like this because I didn't really know what was going to happen from one scene to the next. BOTTOM LINE: a quirky story with unique characters - reflective of the time in which it was written.(less)

Basically, it's one big story about sightings from all over the world. Mr. Childress goes into the history, lore, mythology, science of these creatures and ties it all nicely together. I picked up this book in the first place because, as a Portland, OR native, I believe in Bigfoot and their existence. This book has further convinced me that all of the people from around the world that have claimed to have seen this creature - China, Nepal, India, Russia, United States (Southeast, AZ, OR, etc), Vietnam, etc - cannot all be lying for two simple but related facts…that none of the people are related and they basically describe the same creature (smell, sound, size, shape, color, behavior, gait, etc). Mr. Childress also spends time at the beginning talking about the biblical origins of the lore/mythology behind these creatures - I wasn't aware of the depth of the history to these creatures. BOTTOM LINE: it's a good book with interesting stories/facts and it gives the reader some food for thought…something to think about. ENJOY!!(less)

This was a really intelligent, thoughtful take on the Zombie Apocalypse. I really, really liked this book - the story was very unique with a never-ending amount of interesting twists and turns. The writing itself was clear, crisp and as far as I'm concerned, there were no gaps in the story. The story that was told was seamless and gave us just enough detail so we thoroughly understood what the characters were going through. As for the characters - the good guys were all folks that you could absolutely believe in, root for and had amazing depth. As for the bad guys - they too were well written and totally identifiable in the sense that their motives were made clear and their machinations understandable. The pace of the story was perfect - it moved quickly but gave the reader the write amount of pause in the right places. BOTTOM LINE: This was a truly unique take on the Zombie world - the writing was superb - the story was exciting - the characters were clear.(less)

Mr. English takes his personal love of everything snow and goes on a journey across the Northern Hemisphere to discover it. He meets lots of interesting people along the way and learns how they interact with the snow. I liked this book a great deal because it was personal for the author. The book contained tons and tons of interesting facts/tidbits about snow - scientific, recreational, culture, mythology, art, history, militarily - a more than a few of them I plan to use in my own personal experiences with snow. Thanks Mr. English - this was a good one!!(less)
