Ms. Roth, I CRAVE more of your writing! The ending was so right and yet so breathtaking and wrong at the same time..(less)

He's in a way a completely different than he was in Storm Prey which is, I believe, the 19th in the Prey series. Also the one that I read first, which in itself was an amazing book. You knew there was some history before in the previous novels but you weren't confused as to who was who. It works just as good as a standalone, which to me is important on a long series like this.
Back to Rules of Prey, Lucas is a vice cop that plays dirty. He loves women, plenty of them, and has surveillance on him right at the beginning of the book. He's a smooth talking ball buster that in his spare time (when he should be sleeping) makes computer games for a good chunk of change. He drives a Porsche for crying out loud lol.
One of the things I like about Sandford's writing is the communication that Lucas has with certain people. It's very fast paced and you in turn have what's going on with the Maddog and how he keeps eluding the cops. I couldn't really connect with the females in his life. One is just a downright bitch in my eyes, and the other one while being an important part just didn't really capture my attention.
Going right along the line to Shadow Prey, the 2nd in the series. Can't wait to see what Davenport is up too...(less)

I don't know how she does it but I am so captivated by the stories around each of these characters. How they all still tie in and are the Crime Unit even though they are not always working together. Sense of Evil should be in my mailbox soon then I'll be taking a Hooper hiatus when I finish up the Evil trilogy. That makes the first 2 trilogies done. After accumulating the next trilogy I will start back. I'm moving onto The Prey series by John Sandford which I have all of up to Storm Prey which ironically I read first.. Anywho enough rambling just catching you reading beauties up. Taking a YA break, it started seeming to me that they were all becoming guessable in a sense. Being a huge fan of old Nancy Drew mysteries I'm kicking it up a notch (A ALOT) with the novels by Hooper and Sandford.(less)

I stumbled on the first of this 6 novel series a few months ago, reading it on a whim. Needless to say I was sucked in within the world of AFTD's, empaths, and nulls. Since this the last book in the series I want to talk a bit about each character that I, for one, favored in this series. I feel as if each one is a good friend that I have spent quite a bit of time with.
I recently just finished a book that had a male protagonist and didn't care for him at all. I even made the comment that it might be because I don't read hardly any books with them. Nothing against a good solid male character, but it is what it is. I had TOTALLY forgotten about the Death series!! Caleb has all kind of issues and if you have read any of the other books you know why. AFTD is Affinity for the Dead. And needless to say Caleb can do it all. Too feeling the presence of dead people to raising them from the ground to do his bidding. There's so much more to his gift but I musn't gush too much because if you haven't read these books then, firstly, you're missing out. Secondly, after reading all of them I don't know what I might give away. I see them as a whole now and can't remember what happened in which book. (I digress)
Jade, good ole Jade. She's an empath and a pretty powerful one too. Her struggles in her early childhood leading in to her teen years were rough and sometimes hard to read. It made you appreciate that no matter what a person acts like, you never really know what's going on in home life.
The J's. Jonesy, if I had to pick a less favorite of this bunch it would have to be him. Worse thing, I know people like him. Immature most the time, not knowing when to shut up. Oh, that boy got on my nerves sometimes lol but it wouldn't have been the same without him. John reminded me so much of my fiancee it's ridiculous. Minus the red hair anyway.. Smart, good head on his shoulders all around good guy.
Tiff is probably my favorite one in the book. She's also AFTD but not to such a high degree as Caleb. She serves as a kind of battery for Caleb when he needs her. I loved her crassness and how she was right there with the guys all the time. She reminded me a lot of myself in high school, so maybe that's why I had such the soft spot for her. Plus some of the stuff she deals with in this book hit home for me and I connected with her in a level I wasn't expecting.
There are more, but none of the others I cared about like I did these. If you're still reading this, you're awesome for appreciating (maybe?) what I wanted to do here. I have to admit I'm sad that I won't be anxiously waiting another one. This was not my favorite in the series, reason for the 4 stars. But if Miss Blodgett came out with another installment I'd be tickled pink. (hint, hint!) :)
For it being the last installment, I believed it ended really well. Left room for something to maybe happen in the future, but left me with a nice farewell to characters and story I have come to love.(less)

Scarlet has to be one of my favorite female protagonists I have read since Katniss (Hunger Games for any people that haven't experienced that awesomness). I loved how strong willed she was and determined. She never let up on her goal of what she was trying to do the whole time. Another new favorite would have to be Wolf. I was sure I had figured out what he was but Miss Meyer put her twist on things and made him that much more of an interesting person. The fierce loyalty he had toward Scarlet was very real to me and never felt like it was being forced. Not sure if that makes sense to anyone else, but it does to me.. I was thrilled to find out that Cinder was still in it, as she was a strong character in Cinder. But I felt she was a lot more whiny that I remembered. Maybe I need another read of Cinder, but I don't quite remember her being that bad. I still dug her part of the story especially when everything and everyone started tying together. I even have a soft spot for Captain Thorne. Pain in the ass he was, he stuck by Cinder the whole time, and that alone makes him a ok in my book. Bless her heart, she might not have made it without him.
One of the best things I love about this series is the whole concept and the depth that Miss Meyer has taken it. Reminds me a bit of The Iron Fey series by Julie Kawaga (please forgive any errors in the series name and author name). They both delved so deep in the worlds they created that I could see it and appreciate the time they took to build these beautiful places.
As for Kai.. Ahhh Kai... Well I'll just say I'm not happy with him at the moment. I know he had to do what he thought was best but the whole time I was verbally telling him NO! Don't do it! Not trying to spoil too much so I'll just leave it at that.
Only thing that upset me about this book was that I found out Cress isn't going to be out til 2014. If I'd known that, I might have waited a little bit before reading Scarlet. But on the other hand I'm so glad I did!(less)

I absolutely loved Delirium, but it's hard not to put this above it. I seem to have a bad habit of this actually. I love the first one, then the second blows it out of the water in my opinion. I'm diving straight into Requiem, Allegiant is going to have to wait. I can't wait to see what unfolds after a cliffhanger like that.(less)
