The cover is very intriguing and "the bachelor" type plot made it a must read for me. However, after reading it, I wish I hadn't. I thought it had great potential of being epic, but it fell short. I had a difficult time liking the main character, America Singer, I thought she was obnoxious and a little annoying, and I realize I am probably the only one that thinks so. I wasn't a fan of the Prince and the only character I remotely liked was Aspen. I can't believe this is going to be a series, it seems it could have gotten rid of the a lot of the fluff and been a single read, why drag out the ridiculous love triangle?(less)

I was immediately drawn into this family that was already divided, but now has been hit with the worst kind of tragedy: a daughter's suicide. Harper, by far one of my favorite names, is not your average teenager. She is quite mature for her age and that seems to be a problem as we realize that she hasn't really had a chance to grieve for her sister. Harper, along with her best friend, decide that June would want her ashes to be spread in California, a place that June always longed for but never made it to. Harper and Laney try to decide how they are going to get California and just like fate had another plan, this mysterious Jake Tolan comes in and appoints himself the roadtrip captain. Jake Tolan is a mysterious bad boy, but who doesn't love the bad boys? Jake is someone that I rooted for from the very beginning and as we find out he isn't without substance: he stands up for political beliefs, educates June and Laney on classic rock, and is willing to do just about anything for those he cares about. Just when we think that Jake does have a heart of gold, he reveals something to Harper that turns her world up side down again.
I loved the relationships that were the basis for the book.
I loved Laney and Harper's connection and how they were there for each other even when things got super heavy. Laney is this self-proclaimed wild-child who has a heart of gold and has some issues with her parents: they give her free range and underneath her tough exterior, she longs for something more.
Jake and Harper. They are the classic bantering-but-will-eventually-fall-in-love type. I loved Jake from the beginning, even when he seemed kind of stalkerish just hanging around the wake, and even when he does the big reveal. His song to June was just all sorts of awesome!
It was a different kind of subject matter, but Harrington handled it beautifully. It had all the emotions and it felt that I was right there with Harper. It was just beautifully written and what else can I say, AWESOME!(less)

Hard to believe that this was Megan Miranda's debut novel, it was almost flawless and a completely enjoyable read. I was completely drawn into Delaney's struggle with coping with her life post coma and dealing with developing feelings for her best friend, Decker. I loved how everything wasn't just all about this budding romance, but dealt with much bigger issues in such a delicate way. I just really enjoyed this from page one! I honestly can't wait for more from Megan! If you haven't read it, you should! (less)

I was ready to be blown away and ready to be crying like a baby, however, I was highly disappointed. Maybe I just pumped up the book to be an epic story of remarkable sadness and it just wasn't.
The Bad:
Tessa's mother - her daughter is terminally ill and she can't seem to make anything about Tessa, doesn't even visit her regularly.
Cal - why would would you tell your sick sister you wished she was dead?
Zoey - self absorbed and selfish.
Tessa - i found it hard to find compassion for her, she had her moments, but was overall, in her own world. She didn't seem to grasp the concept that everybody in her life is affected and going through what she is.
The Good:
it had the potential to be awesome, but I just didn't like the characters.
There is a movie coming out (now is good) with dakota fanning and jeremy irivine and it is based on this book, so maybe the movie can save it for me somehow :)

Taylor Swift. Wade Bowen. All reasons why I love this book so much! It didn't take me long to recognize a severe similiarity between the friday night lights bad boy and rusty, it just made me love it that much more. I don't know if I am alone on this one but I felt a little t-swiftness in kyra kelley. And i was just over the moon when I found Wade Bowen mentioned in this book, and that sealed the books fate as one of my favorites. Very few know Wade Bowen and his sweet raspy voice.
I loved this story through and through. It was moving. (less)

I loved how Giffen expertly shifted viewpoints from Tessa to Valerie and found the characters were very interesting and added to the whole reading experience. I loved that Dex and Rachel were in this book and I loved the character of Tessa very much, sure I wanted to yell at her a few times, but I think she was just caught up in what she thought her life was supposed to be like and at the same time, worried it would turn out like her mother's. I loved it!(less)
