Well let me take that back; I loved the ending of the book much more than the movie, but I thought the movie was more seductive.
The relationship between Dr. Lecter and Clarice Starling is one that has always puzzled and confused me. It might sound sadistic and strange but I have always been of the opinion that if I had had the attentions of Dr. Lecter I would be so very happy. Yes, even though he is a murderer and a cannibal. I think this book really made me feel even more longing for the affection of a fictitious character. It spoke to me as an underlying love story in a way, and I happily indulged myself in fantasies.
I think that because this book had the power to make me feel attracted to a man who murders and eats his victims, Thomas Harris did an amazing job weaving the tale as he did. I felt almost hypnotized.
While I am sure everyone gets something different out of this book, mine was the romance between the two mentioned above. Without listing spoilers, this is why I much preferred the ending in the book to the ending in the movie.(less)

Lestat's journey was a very interesting one and it really gives a good foundation to the remainder of her vampire books that involve him. I feel like this should have been the first book however because of how little a role Louis plays in the future books.
When I first read this book I was about 13 years old and it was a bit difficult for me to follow at times. Now that I am older it's even better to me and can fly through it.(less)

I could not read it alone in the dark at some parts, it really got to me. Definitely a good piece of work by Mr. Koontz.
I was also really happy by the ending. It left me with a satisfied feeling and really tied things up. Would most likely read again when my queue runs out or I just feel up to it.
The only thing I didn't like was just how sad it was for what the family in the center of the story had to end up doing.

It was one of the most beautiful and tragic books I have ever read. I definitely recommend it to fans of The Phantom of the Opera as it gives a much more in depth view into Erik's life.
It's sad, tragic, beautiful, amazing.. it will tug at your heart strings.(less)

I read it years after it was released and right before the first movie came out so I knew it was really popular. I figured it would be amazing so I went out and purchased all four of the books from Walmart one night and started my journey.
I finished the entire series in less than a week. I couldn't put it down. There is something so transfixing to me about Edward's love and attentions that I couldn't wait to see what happened next.
The writing style was absolutely terrible. It reminded me of a 13 year old's writing when in fact it was a grown woman. I'm not sure if maybe she did this on purpose to appeal to a younger audience but I have a suspicion that she just isn't that good of a writer. No matter, the story itself was so appealing to me emotionally that the style of writing only bothered me from time to time.
I have always had a secret love of vampirism ever since I was young and read most all of Anne Rice's books and the book Companions of the Night, so I was easily taken in by this obsessive love story.
If I were to analyze it like most Twilight haters do, I would have to agree that Edward is a creepy, pedophilic, old stalker. This story wasn't written to be logical though, and I think it's beautiful in its own way.
My rating is for the first book by itself, as I have other opinions of the rest. I wish you could give half stars because the writing really deserves a dock of one and a half stars to me.(less)

It was one that I, personally, could not read alone 'in the dark'. It was very descriptive in parts I'd rather not know about, but that's what makes it all the more interesting and frightening.
I was a little bit disappointed by the identity of the "being". I have this feeling a lot when I read Stephen King books as well.
It seems that most of the "monsters" I read in books like this are just normal people, which is a let down after all of that suspense. True that he has some supernatural powers, I feel like it would have been better if he had to be killed in a strange and exciting way, rather than just killed as a human being.
The writing in the book was fast-paced, which I enjoyed immensely. A few of the Dean Koontz books I have read were slow and hard for me to get into which led to me having to restart several times. So far this is my favorite Dean Koontz book to date. (less)

It was a great romance story in my opinion, but it was a little irking at times. I wanted to slap Turner for most of the book as I suppose we were supposed to want to.
I cried and cried near the end of the book. I wasn't expecting such a heart-wrenching twist in the plot and it really hit me. It had a good ending that I am thankful for and wasn't quite the traditional: Girl and boy like each other, man is too head strong, girl chases after, guy sees how amazing she is and falls in love with her, they get married, the end. It was close but different and that was pleasing to me. I have a feeling this would make a really good movie, one I would definitely go see in theaters!
One thing that did bother me a tad bit was how the heroine always seemed to be less than enough. She was never pretty, just pleasant. Things like that bothered me. I felt she needed something other than her wit, like that she was an excellent horseback rider. Just SOMETHING so she wasn't just your typical smart-but-blah girlee. Plus she always felt that way so she would let people just walk all over her and it was a bit disheartening after a while.(less)
