The poetry in this collection reaches into the reader’s heart and twists it, giving us a glimpse into ‘what if’ and ‘what can never be’. The pain expressed in many of the pieces is filled with regret, longing, and love. Though somber, these poems leave you craving more.
Through her poetry, Shannon Riley allows the reader to enter a hidden realm, a world where sunlight no longer rules, and beings older than time give voice to their thoughts. Her deft weaving with words embraces the reader and brings us into the darkness, then with a gentle push, releases us to breathe in the light once again.
I highly recommend this collection. It definitely left me yearning for more. ...more

Shannon Riley gives us a beautiful story of love and renewal in verse form as she takes us on a magical journey with a young woman recovering from painful loss. The writer wields her words like an artist wields a brush, painting colorful scenes of heaven and earth in a bright palette of wonder and joy. The poetry telling the young girl’s story is light and airy and moves across the page in a delightful cadence. And the story itself is filled with glowing promise, and delivers a beautiful and satisfying end.
This is gorgeous tale for both young and old, and one perfect for bedtime. ...more

I liked the conclusion to this series, and was saddened when it was done. Though the overall story was somewhat predictable, the author wove in enough unexpected events to keep the tension running.
I think the most brilliant aspect of this series was the twist on the werewolf mythology. It was fresh and very believable, and I found myself noticing the season changes, especially to fall and winter, with a little more thought than normal.
Overall, I greatly enjoyed this series, these characters, and will sorely miss reading further adventures by them.
I highly recommend all three books: Shiver, Linger, and Forever....more

In Beasts, Diana’s isolation and abuse at the hands of her cruel husband leave her adrift with nowhere safe to turn. Orphaned as a child and raised by her grandmother, Diana’s lack of resources keep her and her baby daughter captives in a house with a man who grows more dangerous every day.
Diana’s desire for a ‘normal’ life slips further out of her grasp when she begins awakening at night in the surrounding forest, a victim of the sleepwalking that plagued her childhood. Fearing discovery and accusations of infidelity by her jealous husband, Diana is horrified one morning when she returns to find him awake and waiting for her, simmering with insane rage.
Her ensuing flight with her baby triggers long-buried memories and leads to the discovery of what happened to her parents, and to a future beyond her wildest imagination.
The palpable terror with which the writer infuses this story keeps the reader racing along with the desperate young mother as Diana’s life spins out of control. Though in the beginning Diana seems weak and submissive - typical with most victims of abuse - we witness her strength and determination grow as she fights for her life and the life of her daughter.
It’s a wild ride, one I recommend to any lover of the dark genres. ...more
