I just have one issue. The marketing these stories as super dark and more gothic then original fairy tales. ....no these are the same fairy tales, just a little different and fleshed out in places.
I mean honestly have you read the original fairy tales? They were dark! These are dark! This isn't really that new a spin on them. I grew up reading about barrels of nails that people got put in and rolled down hills in. Of step sisters cutting off their own feet to fit in glass slippers and all sorts of gruesome stuff people forget are in fairy tales.
That being said, I highly enjoyed these ones as well because I like fairy tales and these were more of those....more
**spoiler alert** What the hell happened to you book? The first one was so good and then ....suddenly SEXISM. SEXISM EVERYWHERE.

I mean, you go from the first one where the girl picks her best friend over a boy and then suddenly it's all boys are evil and should be enslaved and lol that's totally what girl power is and omg I could spit. And then you have the main villain being a tool for a man she loved, who then throws her out when she's no longer useful.
And the whole, you can't have a best friend and a true love, thing. Or the whole everyone is always straight even though same sex kisses are a thing in this world but nope, just "friendship".
I'm making a new shelf for you book. The "what the hell happened" shelf. Because really, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? ...more
**spoiler alert** I loved Elizabetta. I really wish the story could have all been about her. She's going to be a great Queen.
The ending though. ...wel**spoiler alert** I loved Elizabetta. I really wish the story could have all been about her. She's going to be a great Queen.
The ending though. ...well the ending. We need to have a chat about the ending. First of all, killing Tobias just seems like a way to get Molly and Alaric together. The last chapter where they get together is even titled "It Was Really Quite Convenient", which I know was supposed to be about oh hey Elizabetta is in love with someone else as well, so we're good. But really? After killing one point of a love triangle we didn't even know existed? Another title probably would have been better.
I am VERY VERY glad that they didn't use the cup of love on Elizabetta though. I was really annoyed that Molly never even seemed to think that maybe getting someone to fall in love with your king against her will isn't very ethical. But then I don't think she thinks much of ethics ever since she erased the memories of her "best friend" in the last book. I wish someone had pointed that out though, not just a last minute thing by the King who suddenly wasn't interested in the match now that it wasn't in his best interests.
I don't see Molly being a good leader. I honestly don't. But who knows. The story stops here and it was enjoyable. I'm just sad it wasn't as good as it could be....more
