I especially enjoyed the characters and watching their growth from beginning to end. Was it my favorite book? No. Though it was well written, there were times I found myself skimming to get to more action, or something of more importance within the book. But overall, I found the descriptions, the journey, the characters (even the minor ones) to be quite fun, entertaining, and necessary to the progress of the story. To accomplish something that in all essence is a near impossible feat for a person well trained, let alone a 65 yr old man, is incredible. I rooted for him. I wanted him to save Queenie, even though in my heart I knew the possibility was unlikely. I rooted for Maureen as well, wanting her to some into her own. Yes, it was Harold's journey, but it was hers as well. It was a beautiful story, well worth reading. ...more

It was one of those books that I could only read in pieces because the description was that intense. I read the entire book quickly, over the course of a week, but had to set it aside to catch my breath. This is one of my all time favorites and brought me back from the brink of not enjoying reading at all(I hadn't read anything that stuck with me like this book did).
It's an incredible story and it is amazing to see how people react and respond to devastation. Human nature? Perhaps. Still sad though.
Highly recommend. Just be prepared to have your heart broken in many, many different ways. ...more

It just wasn't great either. The clever cover drew me out of all the free books that come scrolling across my screen each day--so that is a plus. Overall, the writing is okay, the plot is interesting--for the most part--and the characters are likeable. Why only three stars? There was a lot of repetitiveness and unnecessary pushing each other away--just get together all ready. But mostly, the cliffhanger ending blew it for me. I'm not a fan of those kind of endings, but that's just me. Did I go on to buy the next book in the series? No. I liked the concept of the story, but not enough to follow the story any more. I'm good. ...more

These characters are well written, well developed, and are easily visualized. Yes, this is a story about Daly finding love with Kashi (and boy, did I love Kashi's character--well done), but it is so much more that. The whole arc of the book is about Daly's relationships with everyone in her life, how she copes, how she comes to trust, and how she grows and overcomes as a person.
I LOVED the vivid descriptions of India! I could picture everything--the people, the places, the smells (the motorbike ride put me right there in the scene, and I could feel Daly's amazement and hesitation). The romance and love between Daly and Kashi was beautiful, and I totally rooted for them.
This is a great read. It is beautifully written with some amazing characters. I had only wished the ending (which I will not spoil) would've ended up different, not that it's a bad ending in anyway, but that it was one I didn't expect or saw coming. I really enjoyed this book and read it in a matter of days. ...more

This story is uniquely its own, told from the point of view of Reid--a boy thrown head-long into a mysterious life and death situation. The fear, the thrill, the emotion that comes through in the writing is amazing. There is never a dull moment in this story of survival and I very much look forward to the sequel, planning to pick it up soon and continue where this book left off. ...more

I carried my kindle with me everywhere I went and when snatches of time presented itself, I pulled out the Kindle and read.
I needed to know what was going to happen next despite some of the gruesome and more uncomfortable parts of the story (inside the mind of a serial killer). I found the story engrossing and the style of writing quite crisp, clean, and forthright.
This is definitely not a book for the squeamish and not for children, as this author states right upfront. Be forewarned. But to be fair, it is those scenes that truly let you into the mindset of Mitchell Norton and his rational and without them, this book would not have achieved what it set out to do. As far as Tony is concerned, the experiences he is faced to deal with with make your heart break for him and near the end of the story, you can't help but cheer the guy on despite knowing that for all intents and purposes what he is doing is wrong. You won't care. It feels right and that's all that matters.
The ending is perfect. It works and sets up the sequel wonderfully. I can't wait to see where this story goes. And Mr. Diamond, if you're reading this, cut Tony some slack, will ya? The guy deserves to find his happy ending. But something tells me, he's in for another roller coaster ride from hell.
My only small nit-picky complaint was the shifting from present time (1995) to the past (1978) and varying the different POV's between Mitchell and Tony. At first, it took me off guard and I struggled with it (could just be me though, so don't let that sway your decision--this is great thriller, regardless). So it took me a few chapters to train my eye to read the chapter header. After a few chapters, it was no longer an issue and actually worked very well in telling this particular story.

As a fan of the game show Survivor, I decided to give this novel a try. Boy was this a fun read. The characters are realistic and the description of the game show process was fantastic. I enjoyed this, and if your looking for a fun, romantic story with a game show twist--you'll love this one. (Note: There are some editing issues, but nothing too horrible. So if you're willing to look past those and delve into the story, you will be pleased--I read it in a day). ...more
