I wasn't sure what to expect from Brynn's perspective, because I'd loved being in Mia's head so much, but I LOVED Brynnrik! Another endearing and exciting (and always hilarious) installment. Probably one of my favorite aspects of this series are the SMART and CAPABLE females. THANK YOU, for that. There are also REAL relationships that you FEEL, and although we definitely get a healthy dose of alpha male hotness, the friendships and relationships are definitely not founded in it. You SEE the chemistry, and you feel it develop. It's all kinds of rich and wonderful.
I really don't know how S.T. does it. Like, I feel like I KNOW these characters, personally. As if I could pick up the phone and call Brynn and sneak up to Tyr's "cabin" and hang out with them. I'd like to, especially for Henrik's Hotcakes. :D
Mange takk, S.T. Bende, for such a FUN series with characters who now feel like family. Can't wait for the next one!...more

It's a story about finding the strength to overcome the pressures and choices and expectations those closest to us put on our shoulders--even the pressures we put on ourselves. It's a story about choosing who YOU want to be. The characters are real and raw with believable flaws. Thanks to the author for such a fun read which also wonderfully executes themes of self-discovery we can all relate with!...more

I didn't really know what I was getting myself into. I mean, I like sci-fi, and the idea of reading a book in a format of file snippets and testimonials intrigued me, but maaaaaaan. That was GENIUS. And INTENSE. Actually, had I known just how intense this would be, I probably wouldn't have listened to Julie (thanks, my dear) and read it. Because there were elements of Event Horizon and I Am Legend in here. Both films scare me to bits, because each contains one of my two greatest fears: Space and mutagenic viruses that turn perfectly normal human beings into rabid blood-thirsty monsters. Just, NO. I am so done losing sleep over things like this.
And then I read this, which combines the two. Basically, I'm not sleeping for a week.
Horror aside, I couldn't flip the pages fast enough. I wanted to look away, but I couldn't. THE ACTION WOULD NOT STOP. And did I mention that it was intense? Like heart-pounding, nail-biting intense. And the format! SO COOL. It was a little awkward on my Kindle, but I just maxed out font size, and we managed all right. I loved the artwork and poetry and use of (page) SPACE.
I LOVED this. I laughed a lot. I cared SO MUCH about the main characters, which surprised me considering the aforementioned format. I even cared for AIDEN, the ship's Artificial Intelligence, by the end (which was SO well done). The story scared the crap out of me with its vivid and gruesome imagery (*spoiler* Code Blue, anyone? the ten-year old girl? O__O THE. HECK.), and being that I like to avoid scary things, I probably won't read it again. But I'll be reading the sequels, even if it means watching a lot of Disney movies afterward.
If you're looking for a stunning and original sci-fi book that refuses to let you go until the end (and you don't mind a bit of horror mixed in), CHECK THIS OUT! Thanks to the authors for hijacking my mind for a solid 24 hrs....more

Where to even start...The story was so engaging, and the writing was just as evocative and stunning as the world-building and characters. Sirens of Falkeld is set in Scotland against a backdrop of WWII, drawing richly from both history and myth, and combining them in an original and brilliant way. The sense of mystery and intrigue is gripping from page one, and holds you tight throughout the rest of the narrative. The characters are beautifully written, with palpable tension and real conflict that masterfully mirrors the perfectly paced plot and darker story environment. Probably my favorite aspect was the chapters from the maighdean mhara POV. Those chapters were GORGEOUS. I loved seeing the fight, the terrible and raw emotions of the sirens - testament to Julie's writing, because she made me come to empathize and understand a VERY deadly and seductive predator.
Bravo, Mrs. Tuovi...I love this, and I give it a very enthusiastic five stars!
Also, fans of Scorpio Races will love this!...more
