Always the yarn of a teenager whose parents don't understand their plight, ultimately, leaving them to save themselves from the evil in the world while also falling for the hot guy/girl who provides all of the emotional support and help they need. Sigh. Well, this book has exactly all of that. However, it has so much more that it makes it quite palatable. This book is one of those books that makes me realize that I could never write a book like this because I just pdon't posses the imagination! I will admit in the beginning I found this book to be an eye roller. I really thought this is hokey and I've just thrown more money away looking for that next great read. But, just a few chapters in, I began to change my mind. It's quit creative which is why I gave it such a high score. I kept thinking, how does anyone think this stuff up? For being fantasy, I kept thinking that it was quite logical! I found myself forgetting that it's quite impossible to have a PSS hand. Additionally, I found that once the story was really going I could not really tell that this was written for teenagers. Occasionally that teen thing would rear it's ugly little head, but because the story was done so well, it didn't bother me. I also found myself blindsided by the big reveal in the book. Not to mention that at some points I laughed out loud or cringed in horror. Overall, I found the book very well written and I can't wait to see if the next book will continue to please.. Highly recommended for anyone who wants something a little different!...more

I have to say that I had mixed feelings. I usually enjoy listening to books at night that help me relax and fall asleep. This book suceeded! That's not to say that it was bad, just a little slow and long. If you are looking of a lot of action this is not the book for you. If you like books that take their time and make you think of a long leisurely stroll on a summer day, then give it a try. The audio was very good! ...more
Overall this was a decent book. Not great but not that bad either. This is not the genre that I usually read so I enjoyed the novelty. I noticed thatOverall this was a decent book. I suspect it is.
As I see it, the major flaw in this book is the underdevelopment of the characters. They were flat and one-dementional. Towards the end of the book I just wanted it to get through it so I could start a new novel. I just didn't care anymore.
The other problem that I had with this book was the idea of the Tabula. Tabula is a group of powerful people who want to control the world. The idea is that they "give the appearance of freedom with the reality of control." Supposedly they have the technology, contacts and money to keep tabs on the population as a whole. They control the perception of reality via manipulation of media, technology etc. Everyone and everything they do is documented through technology. I found that I could not suspend my disbelief. It just seemed to me that if they were that powerful and had eyes everywhere that they could have easily tracked down the Traveler and Harliquine. I just didn't buy it. Also, the technology seemed reasonable at some points but when the author gets into describing the quantum computer I found myself rolling my eyes.
This book just didn't work for me. I don't think I would recommend it.
