I found it so refreshing that the author was so blunt from the start - touching on key things like dealing with dog poo and the common issue of families buying a pet dog to change their minds. Quite touching in places... as well as hilarious! Lupin the adorable mongrel is my favourite character!
The art is very easy on the eye and, speaking as a doggy fan, I found the cute puppies featured in the stories an absolute delight to see and read about. :) Almost makes me want to go get a job in my local pet shop!
I look forward to picking up the next volume!...more
I'm rather ill informed of depression and what to expect of it so picked this book up to help me briefly educate myself before looking more into it.

This book is more designed to bring your own personal situation back into perspective because when you're caring for someone who is not well with depression, even a mild form, you can start slipping that way yourself if you're not careful.
Definitely not worth reading as a stand alone information book. Do look at other material on this subject if you want to know more. ...more

Colin Dann's tales are well thought out usually, the story consistently told from the animals' point of view. I do feel that the Animals of Farthing Wood series is a good book series for young readers to appreciate wildlife more as well as learning some life lessons the background.
Fox's Feud has a more aggressive storyline than The Fox Cub Bold mostly because of - as it says on the tin - it's about Fox's Feud as he continues to try and lead the Animals of Farthing Wood as they try to settle in White Deer Park, bothered by the unwelcoming members of the park. It is a very good story, definitely interesting to see how Fox and the others deals with this strong menace in the new home the animals thought so much of.
The Fox Cub Bold is more of a life lesson story, where Fox's son Bold rebelliously decides to leave White Deer Park to get away from his controlling parents, believing the world outside the park is much better place to be... it's a strong and moving story. I definitely think it's worth reading.
Of course, I must add that, to appreciate these books more is to read the series of books that cover the journey from Farthing Wood to White Deer Park... it's where most of the character development is for a good chunk of the characters that are in these later in the series books....more

It definitely does a very good job of helping to get the message across about the subject of sexual abuse and the effect it has on the child's emotional development.
The story is done in such a way that you can easily relate to the lead character as well, especially if you're a keen artist, despite her difficult circumstances. The comic artwork is clear and well presented, almost leaving you feeling like you're there, which aids the educational process about sexual abuse.
If you're particularly sensitive, it still may not be okay to read because of the power of the story rather than any adult graphic detail involved.
Overall, a wonderfully done book. I definitely recommend, especially to those who've suffered those circumstances to help them overcome what they need to. It is very common for people in those circumstances to not speak up if they feel alone and confused, this book should help them speak up or at least help them work through it....more
