The very worst thing about this book is that it seems like a last minute thing. As if someone said, “Hey, you know what would be great? A short book with some character information, a few short stories, and an excerpt from the last book that isn’t released yet. We’ll put it out a few months before the final book’s release to fill the void and remind people that you’re still there.” But maybe that’s just me…
The very best thing about this book is the short stories! I love short stories. I always have and always will! They’re fun, they get to the point, and they don’t have enough time to really bore you even if they suck. These short stories aren’t the greatest, but they’re good and I enjoyed them along with the other information in this book. :-)(less)
The very worst thing about this book is that the animation is different throughout the book. Each story is done by different people and, while it’s all drawn quite well, the differences do stand out.
The very best thing about this book is FRAGGLES! I grew up watching the Fraggles on TV! I love the Fraggles and finding them in graphic novel form was a dream come true! Almost as incredible as finding “The Last Unicorn” graphic novel. :-D(less)
The very worst thing about this book is that Garth Nix dares to tell us that he doesn’t want to hear if our favorite story is “The Coin Shower.” What was he thinking?!
The very best thing about this book is the variety of stories. They aren’t all Old Kingdom tales, and the one that is wasn’t my favorite – I’m not big on mysteries. My favorites were probably “The Hill” and “Heart’s Desire.” “Lightning Bringer” was interesting, if not a little disturbing and kind of out of place, I think. They’re all great, though! Even “The Coin Shower” in it’s eight-word glory. :-D(less)
The very worst thing about this book is a section in the essay “Crime of Fashion” by Terri Clark. Apparently, she can’t leave her personal politics out of anything and is an Obama supporter. I say apparently because this is an assumption based on the fact that she criticizes Palin for having to buy a new wardrobe and not Obama for spending all the money that she does on a regular basis. Then on top of that, she claims Obama is better dressed than Palin. O_o
The very best thing about this book is how interesting all these essays are. Every last one of them keeps you thinking and they help bring back the pleasure of reading the books. :-) I’ll be rereading mine soon and then I’ll probably reread these essays.(less)
The very worst thing about this book is that it actually gets boring. :-/ The next time I read this, I’m going to make sure that I space all the stories out a bit instead of one immediately after another. They’re all interesting stories, but there are just so many of them that I got tired of hearing about vampires that were just slightly different from the traditional stereotype… *sigh* This was the first time I’ve read a short story collection with a specific topic and not just a specific genre or world. I wasn’t prepared for the vampire overload and I think that was my only issue with this anthology.
The very best thing about this book is how creative some of the stories are. Honestly, because of that worst thing I mentioned, they tended to run together in my mind, but some of them were truly interesting and I will be rereading these stories in the future.(less)
The very worst thing about this book is it’s length. Granted, it’s only a few fairy tales, but I was hoping for something longer. Anything to keept me in the world of magic that Rowling created.
The very best thing about this book is how entertaining and interesting the stories are to even those who haven’t read the Harry Potter books. If you haven’t already read these stories, pick up a copy of the book and get started. You’ll hold on to this for when you have kids and they ask for a bedtime story.(less)
