I kept getting bogged down by the tedious info dumping, the slow moving plot and the cynical voice of the protagonist. Nevertheless, I persevered because according to folks on GR, it gets 'better' after the first 200 pages.
Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but for me, it wasn't until around page 442 (out of 571 pages) that the story got interesting. I think this book will appeal to those who: 1) love anything about zombies; 2) have unlimited patience or don't mind a slow building story; 3) appreciate dry humour; and 4) have a thing for conspiracy theory and speculative science.
I would have rated this book 2 stars if it wasn't for the spectacular ending. Would I read the rest of the trilogy? Yes, based on the last 100 pages alone and the fact that I already bought books 2 & 3, but mainly because (view spoiler)[ the annoying protagonist died in this first book so I won't have to endure her annoying, cynical voice for the rest of the trilogy.
