There is alot of humour in this book but also some very touching moments as well.I think this just may be the perfect summer/beach read!(less)

This did not disappoint on either of those points. I did find this one a little more challenging to get into, but once I hit the mid-way point it seemed to flow better. I'm not sure why it took me longer to get into then normal...nothing I can really put my finger on.....so I am thinking it might have just been me. (less)

There are some graphic scenes that depict torture, and I personally always find this a struggle to get through. I found the story to be quite engaging but did not care for the constant and abrupt changes to timeline. The jumps were often very abrupt and pulled me right out of the story. It was the characters that kept me so engaged...they were so real and so damaged by everything they were living through. Heartbreaking really. (less)

The middle third was the complete opposite " She is so evil! He deserves so much more!" And the final third.....well lets call them both psychopaths and agree that they deserve each other! I would recommend this to those who enjoy a very dark mystery.(less)

It is a ghost story, a love story, a mystery, and historical fiction as well. It takes place in and around New Orleans(my favorite place on earth!)during the 1950's and Leganski captured the magic of the city very well. There was a touch of Hoodoo and Voodoo in the story but nothing scary or disrespectful. The story is written with a fairly obvious Christian bias. Overall I think it is a well presented and original story that has a fairy tale quality to it. (less)

This is quite simply one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. The world building was amazingly real and the characters were so well developed! The story itself is wonderfully dark and disturbing and I was guessing literally up to the very last pages as to how the ride would end. I am so happy that I got a chance to preview this book as an ARC and will be purchasing it for my own collection on the day it is released. (less)

None of the characters are very likable and this adds to the validity of the story in my opinion. Afterall it SHOULD be the bad who get punished shouldn't it? This is not one for the faint of heart...or weak of stomach. (less)

It was described as a global warming disaster thriller. In reality the disaster happens because of an earthquake....oh and it was written in 1929!!! Apparently it is a classic work of science fiction...and it certainly reads like one. Show don't tell was NOT a rule of writing in 1929 I assure you. Shame on the people at KOBO for misleading their customers on this one! Personally I will not be reading this again or recommending it for that matter.(less)

The characters were quite well developed and although the ending is a set up for a series the story is strong enough to stand on its own as well. Would be a great option for a ya book club read or even a novel study for middle school students as some intresting questions are raised. I will certainly be suggesting this for those looking for ya fiction.(less)

The bad guys here are truely horrific....no sparkly monsters in this one! I also really appriciate that the main female character is so very strong....she is not a damsel in distress but can stand up for herself. That being said she is also not a larger then life kcik-butt ninjaesque warrior either....just a solid believable character. Now onto #3!(less)

I really liked the characters and how they developed. There were enough loose ends to make one uneasy....just where did those missing bad guys go???? But there was still a feeling of conclusion. I would recommend this series for anyone who is a fan of horror.Thank you Jonathan Mayberry for creating a town that I wish I could visit....right up there with CastleRock and Derry.(less)

There are some akward sections of the novel that I think are mainly due to the fact that the book has been translated into english from dutch. I also found the random timeline to be somewhat off putting but the strength of the story made it easy to see beyond. (less)

The characters were very real, just not always likeable...kinda like real people I guess! There were a few characters that were introduced, sort of in "cameo" roles that did not seem to move the story forward. There was also a fair number of loose ends that speak to a continuation of the tale in the future. Overall a recommended read for all those lovers of haunted places.(less)

There are sooooo many characters and short chapters that tend to jump from story line to story line. That being said...I did enjoy it from about the half way point on. I have a feeling that if the 3 short stories had been released as a single novela length work I would have liked the whole thing more. Now dont get me wrong, I really like short stories, but that is not what these were. Rather a single work was seperated into three installments....kind of a cheat of the readers in my opinion. As for the story itself there was some unique ideas offered.(less)

No one and I mean no one has the ability to describe surroundings the way she does. The characters were very well written and the werewolves in the novel were recognizable as the creatures they are but with a truely human side. The ending seemed to make a second wolf story very probable and I for one cant wait!(less)

It kept you reading and intrested. There are some very unique characters but for the most part they were very believable.I found this read very much like a mystery and although there were some events that could make this novel able to be included in the genre of fantasy...there was little that would make one think paranormal as has been suggested. The ending implied that a sequel will be offered and it will be on my TBR pile. I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys a fast paced mystery with some ability to suspend disbelief.(less)
