This book definitely had its off moments though. Like how Brett assumed that Dr. Garrett had a crush on her when she thought he was bordering 60. I know age shouldn't matter, but it was a little off-putting.
And it had its share of annoying characters - specifically Joad. What an ass. I'm glad I don't have a brother like him. But the rest of the characters were superb.
Definitely had my suspicions about Brett's love interest, but somewhere along the way, he kind of disappeared. Then I forgot, and I started wondering where she would find love, if at all.
The author did a wonderful job at wrapping up the story. Definitely a heart-warming story of finding yourself, even at a slightly later age. :)(less)

It took me a while to finish, because honestly I have not felt like reading in a long time. But this book may just have re-sparked that fire in me. The last few chapters were unbelievably good. I was reading this in the car and started crying. It was that good. (less)

I don't like endings that leave you wondering what could possibly happen after the story. So it's really more of like a 4.9 rating. Hee hee.
But other than that, this book is every bit as enchanting as Allen's first book. She has such a unique way of storytelling, and the bits of magic she sprinkles here and there are wonderful. It draws you in. The characters are flawless as ever, and the little town of Mullaby is as curious as it gets.
Definitely need to get my hands on more of Allen's books. Although most of her books might be very similar, in that little town setting dusted with some odd curiosities, they are such enjoyable reads. Absolutely magical. It's funny how when I bought her books, I didn't actually think it would interest me one bit. But now, she's one of my favorite authors. Yes, I have only read two of her books so far, but they are so good. I can just sit back and relax and be transported to whatever little world she has created for her readers. That's how refreshing her work is.(less)

I expected it, but that doesn't stop the blow from hurting. It hits you just as hard. I hated the ending. I'm sorry if that is a dead giveaway regarding how this book ends, but I think everyone knows the kind of ending a book like this has.
This book is all light and breezy one moment, and the next moment you will find yourself with tears in your eyes. You're there thinking, oh how cute are Annika and Steve together, and then Annika says something that will just make your feelings crumble.
I feel like that this book was a little too short, though. I wanted more. I wish there were more scenes with Annika and her family. I wanted a more secure ending. But other than that, this was a quick but a sort of emotional read. Do I think something like this could actually happen in real life? No. (I'm talking about Annika getting a superstar to visit her sick brother in just a matter of days, and having the superstar fall in love with her.) The story is a little far-fetched, but it is nice to dream sometimes. :)(less)

I was incredibly excited to get a copy of this, but I am extremely disappointed! There was no substance in this book at all.
Most importantly, there was no chemistry between Billy and Sophie. The author just chucked them out there, expecting us to work out their relationship, without even making an effort to make it work. Despite all the I love yous and I need yous being thrown around, it just didn't work. And why did it not work? Because the author did not build up to it. She just made them fall magically in love.
And don't even get me started on Billy. His lines were so cheesy it was nauseating. I felt like I was reading fanfiction. (No offense, I know there are some good ones out there. I've definitely read a lot better than this published book.) Everything was so mediocre.
I do apologize to the author. My review may seem harsh. But I was so excited for this book that I am a little mad it wasn't any good. (less)
