There are no words for this book. I read Surrender and Untamed for the first time at the beginning of the year and was in love with the MacKinnons. To be honest, I absolutely adore Morgan MacKinnon, (UNTAMED). I couldn't see past him to think that Connor would be amazing, but BOY HOWDY was I wrong.
I'm honest-to-God not sure I have the words for this book, but every historical I've read tends to pale in comparison to the depth and breadth of this story and the people in it.
Connor and Sarah are brought together not tragically, but miraculously, and their story begins in terror. It is so powerful and poignant, I was simply floored by the tension and sheer beauty of it.
I know we're friends and all (there's my caveat) and I was sent the MS before release (but have since purchased it myself anyway) so think what you want about this review. But if it isn't in your library or on your TBR we need to break up.
I actually did scream and want to throw my iPad across the room, but rather for amazingly good reasons and not due to any WTFckry, which there was none of.
As for the cover? I can't see Nathan Camp as Connor. It's ALLLLL Karl for me now baby.
Oh goodness. This is an amazing book, beautiful, poignant, powerful, passionate, surprising, and yes...AWESOME. I am simply enamored with Matthew. HeOh goodness. This is an amazing book, beautiful, poignant, powerful, passionate, surprising, and yes...AWESOME. I am simply enamored with Matthew. He is just so much a man. He knows what he wants and won't take less than that. Their first...encounter... WHOA. What Matthew does next... I'm simply impressed to the bone with him. Brilliant
I never threw my iPad across the room, never rolled my eyes, though at one point I did think they might just pop from my head (Oh Delilah!!) and the cover is just beautiful.
This is a beautiful and intricate novel about two very damaged souls. Both the physical and mental pain tBrava brava brava. I am once again in love...
This is a beautiful and intricate novel about two very damaged souls. Both the physical and mental pain that the H/h suffer is tangible and powerful, and their journey to come together is just stunning. This is a must read for I-Team fans, but any romance lover will enjoy this book. I absolutely loved it.
Nate West is physically damaged, he was injured by an IED strike while deployed, and now hides on his family's ranch in the Colorado high country. Megan in the emotionally traumatized younger sister of I-Team hero Marc Hunter. His book,
, is a must read all it's own, and tells Megan's beautifully. That isn't to say that Clare doesn't provide enough backstory to understand what happened to Megan here, don't fear the series, every single one can be read independently, though the characters reappear and the relationships build on each other.
Clare masterfully weaves in enough backstory for new readers without boring the pants off of those who've been there.
This story in particular is simply mesmerizing. It's so touching and sweet and deep and soulful how she brings these two people together.
I highly recommend it.
Now: There was no WTFckry, I never wanted to throw my iPad across the room (in fact, I read it all at once), and absolutely no eye rolling. As for the cover? Well, I could be biased
BUT I think it's stunning. *wink* *wink*

This book is rich with history, and is set somewhere not so romantic, at the same time the history pulls the reader in and endears the characters, telling us several sides to a difficult story. Clare is masterful at surprising us, then quelling our excitement only to pull the rug out. Seriously, just when you think it's safe BAM! Something else happens.
I am such a fan girl of this writer now.
I did not throw my iPad across the room, I never rolled my eyes, there was no WTFckry, and I read every word.

The heroine, Bethie, was very badly abused as a child. Beaten and molested by her step father and brother. The hero has suffered at the hands of the Delaware, torture and near-death, ultimately killing what was left of his soul. He abandoned his family for fear of bringing them into his nightmare. His life on the frontier is dangerous, and in the end brings him to Bethie, at deaths door.
The journey's these two people must make, both figuratively and in reality are so difficult, they were gut wrenching, and I was in tears for a good deal of this book. I was drawn in and completely mesmerized by the story and the characters.
I did not throw my iPad across the room, there was no WTFckry, and I never once rolled my eyes.
If you can't find this book (it's out of print) it is being re-released by Penguin in February of next year. Never fear.
Oh goodness, how do I rate thee? If I compare this book to more recent fare, it doesn't bode well, but if I think about it as a bastion of 80s romanceOh goodness, how do I rate thee? If I compare this book to more recent fare, it doesn't bode well, but if I think about it as a bastion of 80s romance goodness, it would rank pretty high. I had never read this infamous novel with the horseback sex scene and was convinced by a few good ladies in twitter to not only read it but to live tweet as I did. And so...I did. This is a fantastic book as long as you keep in mind when it was written. If published today I think it would suffer a great deal of eye rolling. He changes his name form White Thunder to Colt Thunder to blend in with the white men....uh, you know things like this. Because it's WHITE that makes everyone believe he is an Indian not Thunder for a last name?
At any rate, I'm glad I read it, I had fun tweeting it. I never threw my iPad across the room, eye rolling abounds, a whole lot of WTFckry, but it was all in good spirit.
OMG!! I have to wait for July for Connor?!? OK, let's get through Morgan first. LOVE Morgan. What an incredible book. These have to be the most historOMG!! I have to wait for July for Connor?!? OK, let's get through Morgan first. LOVE Morgan. What an incredible book. These have to be the most historical historicals I have ever read. Yeah I know I don't make any sense. What I mean by that is that they are so full of actual history and research they are just incredible to read. I love that the story follows history so well, and integrates the personal stories of these men, or that the personal stories of these brothers are integrated into actual history maybe. OK, still not making sense right?
Whatever. READ these books. I'm JUST blown away and knowing who the heroine is for the third book is killing me. I mean I read this one in, basically, one night. The character and strength go these breathers is so very tangible, they are strong and sure and yea, I ken, braw and radgie! Clare's writing is beautiful and so well done that I can hear their voices in my head.
This is a raw, powerful story.
I never threw my iPad, I stayed up all night reading it, there is no WTFckry, the covers are gorgeous...just go read it.

Oh what do I say about this book. *swoon* ok here is the thing, Pamela Clare is REALLY GOOD at writing believable characters that stay true to themselves and the people they care for. They don't waver. They aren't wishy-washy they don't waver in their core beliefs.
IAIN. IAIN. IAIN. I just can't tell you anything about this other than go READ this book. I am one luck girl that I just read this because book two is already out, and I started it already and I am now MORGAN MORGAN MORGAN. Not to mention that Defiant comes out in a monthish, so not long of a wait for CONNOR. Who. Seriously.
Big, muscly, dedicated, highlander heroes.
I never rolled my eyes, I never threw my iPad, in fact I passed out with it in my arms every night, there was NO WTFckry, the cover is beautiful, LOVE LOVE LOVE IT.
