I really like the way that a whole world/community of magical being, etc, is created, like in Harry Potter (but of course, no where near as amazing) and all of the characters from each story in the series either know each other, or meet in each story. I also really like how they are all mentioned in each different story.
Another thing that I like is how the protagonist is female, most of the time magical, though in 'Secret Vampire' she starts out human. In this first book of the series Secret Vampire is actually my favourite, because it actually brought tears to my eyes. They all did but this one especially. I actually read SV years ago before all the other books in the series, and haven't forgotten it ever since. Recently, I came back to it.
I really like the way it's written, I like the fact it's not in first person either, gives it more description. Also, I like the character developement, especially the male characters, they don't all start out as some 'macho hero', and by the end they're not either, but they have good traits.
Although there's the obvious theme of true love, soul mates, etc, it's not love at first sight. Well it is, but they don't realise it, they question it then as time passes they learn to love each other, I like that about the characters. However, it doesn't always turn out how we expect. In 'Daughters of Darkness', The two main characters don't end up together due to Ashes past. Of course they do admit to having feelings but Mary Lynette declines him until he repents for his sins .... that is an obvious sign that these two characters will return in the fourth book in the series which is yet to come.
It's exciting and hard to put down. Very hard! I am so glad I came across it. Loved it.(less)
