The Decapitated Chicken is more than just a murdered chicken. Crazy Mother's love I guess.
Juan Darien a story of a tiger boy. Racism and revenge.
Horacio Quiroga bases his stories on life experience with a given twist of imagination. Very deep with explained surroundings. Above the top three favorites for me but all worth a read. Originally published from 1907-1935(less)

Jorgen Hofmeester is a father of two daughters and lives the life as a publisher and a landlord. Renting out the upstairs of his house to locals or travelers. After losing his first daughter to growing up and moving out. He has his last daughter left "Tirza"
Throwing a going away party for his daughter takes a few unexpected turns, including his wife returning after 3 years of not being around. She tries to come back into Tirza and Hofmeester's life and gets a cold shoulder.
After a Tirza leaves to travel to Africa with her boy friend. Who her father thinks looks like Mohammed Atta (the man behind the plane crash of the world trade center) Hofmeester goes to Africa for a surprise visit.
The surprise is what he confesses to a nine year old girl he meets in Africa. A huge twist I was not expected, well worth the 400+ page read.(less)

He has had strange jobs such as breeding tarantulas and translating Japanese television to english. And here we have Wild Children which shows how one can write such an interesting piece or work.
What caught my eye was the title. I have four daughters 3 of 4 are wild, the other one is watching her sisters learning to be wild. Yeah I'm going to need stables to train my wild children.
In "Wild Children" we meet children who are miss behaved in one way or another. They are turned into an animal based on their behavior. Donkeys, Birds, Cats, Unicorn, etc. Now as owner ship of mainly the rich people, they give us readers the story behind their character.
My favorite Wild Child is Jinx. A black cat who is a wandering. No owner and can see what others can't. With a little bit of The Cat's Eye reference by Steven King. The two birds Right and Left play a huge part through out Robert's wonderful story.
If you want fantasy Robert Richard has it covered. Wild Children will bring out your animal as you tear through this novel. I wonder what animal I would of became. I was a devious SOB in middle school.(less)

In this issue Jack Ketcum makes an appearance with a poem we wrote on Christmas Day 1969. Below is my favorites with a small review.
Yardley writes a christmas ghost story. After losing her husband a young woman is morning the lost. Losing weight but by her side a figure with no heart beat but it feels like the love of her husband. Find out who she is cuddling with in this creepy whimsical horror. 3.5 Stars
K Allen Wood tells a tale of a clown dressed in a Santa outfit. Trying to gain a fortune with failed attempts for his Christmas holiday. Another reason why kids are afraid of CLOWNS! 5 Stars
Kevin Anderson gives us milk and cookies to die for. With a spooky tale told by an older brother to his younger brother. Santa only comes for the bad kids. 5 Stars.
Robert Duperre brings the Christmas feast to the table with a like father like son tale. But Dorian gets the unwanted unwrapping. A great twist. 4 stars.(less)

At some points I had no idea what Lance was gooping together but as I read on I figured out the sloughing of the rod. This is my second Lance Carbuncle novel both being a helluva ride.
Some of the characters names were very unusual like; Two-Dogs-Fucking, Throws Like A Girl and Three Tooth. It was like some messed up Indian tribe from parts unknown.
If you want some bizarre fantasy with a horror to bash you in the head. Then find your self tangling with some new bug species "Lunkheads" then read "Sloughing off Your Rod"(less)
