I'm in the middle of reading something else, but thought I wouldn't mind reading a short story. Demons/angels/hell/heaven are my weakness. Even if it tends to be cheesy, I'll rate it better than most.
She sold her soul for rock and roll - and has regretted the decision ever since.
This tries too hard to be dark and is just not hitting the mark. Under Hell's Watchful Eye (which I admit is a cool title) could've been half the length if the same questions/thoughts weren't repeated five times. Yes, we get it that she regrets her decision and wants to find a way out, so make it about that - her trying to find a way out! But it stops before it even begins, Jessabell shut down and the plot disintegrating, if it were even there, by the "gorgeous Satan". Is this supposed to be a parable then? To not make deals with the devil because you'll just screw yourself? That's not fresh, it really isn't. An example of telling and not showing, I felt nothing for Jessabell and her predicament.
One thing I did like: '... brilliant white eyes and distorted faces.' There's just something creepy about being surrounded by faces you cannot recognize - I wanted more of that. There should be more of that!
I'd be willing to pick up one of Sowder's novels, because sometimes people aren't very good at short stories, but are good at novel length. We'll see....more

Not much of a plot beyond some not very threatening threats and the two main characters endlessly boning. Even the deaths that were supposed to be shocking or tear-jerking made me feel nothing because I couldn't have cared less about any of the characters. The writing didn't win me over either. The back and forth perspective is not my favorite and every time I read from the MMC's pov, I got the heebie jeebies. Gross, man. And the MFC.. I liked her well enough. She had spunk, but about 60% in it died away to a subservient female breedmate. The trope of the female taming the wild male has been done over and over and in my opinion, not well here. *shrug* I won't be continuing the series! I've given it two stars because the writing wasn't terrible and I managed to get through the whole thing, and clearly other people like it. So pity star, I guess....more

I kept zoning out because every other page is Kate crying or Kate worrying that Henry didn't love her after only seeing him a few hours after months away. Kate doing stupid stuff. Slut-shaming abound. Very little action and enough plot where it could've been done in a chapter without all of Kate's self-loathing. She went from a character I may of liked some in the first book to something so off kilter and annoying. I really hated all the inconsistencies. So only the rulers of the Underworld can find the gate to Tartarus, but some how.. everyone finds their way there no problem except Kate who has to find Persephone to lead her. The whole time, Ava and Persephone argue about a guy and Kate and James have awkward sexual tension while she in all her 18 years swears she'll never cheat on Henry.. all while a much more important thing is going on: the imminent ending of the world. But whatever. Feelings. I was so exhausted and bored with this book. I got tired of everyone else telling Kate Henry loved her and him acting like a sack of meat. I hated how unimportant all the females were, only motivated by jealousy and other stereotypical female motivations. I hated that Persephone got such harsh treatment for cheating (Ava too) but the guys screwing around - nope that's a-ok. Even the mythology is so wateted down. The ending pissed me off. Seriously, wtf...more

At first, I was put off by how quickly the relationship between Nate and V jumps off, but I kept trudging through and found I liked it a lot! It's fast paced and interesting! I'll very likely continue onto the second book....more
