There was also a het sex scene (albeit, brief) that did not sit well with me at all. And then there was mention of Viggo marrying and having children at some point in the future, but oh...he'll keep Colum on the side as his lover. Yuck. :( I realize that may be "authentic" to the time/setting, but nothing kills my enjoyment of a story faster than that particular scenario.
After that little tidbit of info (which was unhappily stuck in my mind) I just couldn't properly enjoy the rest of the story. And then, after Viggo had been quite cruel and cold in the beginning (which was a bit of a shock, and made me feel quite bad for Colum), there were a few moments between the two of them, towards the end, that were kind of overly sappy, and seemed very out of character. It was kind of weird, and reinforced that feeling I had of it being written by someone else.
I don't know...the writing itself was technically very good, which is why I decided to give it 3-stars. But for my personal enjoyment of the story, it's more like a 2-star read for me. So I doubt I'll be continuing with this series. :((less)

And random one-night-stands/hookups aren't one of those...
So, this one got an average 3-star rating from me, because while I really do like his writing (and hot sex scenes!), the actual theme of this story wasn't one that interested me too much. But I couldn't pass up a Brad Vance freebie. :P
But, if you do like this type of story, or if you're new to Brad Vance and want to give him a try, this one is a good choice to give you a taste of his writing style. :)(less)

Did you watch the Vikings (2013) TV Series and imagine the storyline following a...slightly different script, from the point where Ragnar attacks the monastery and takes Athelstan as his slave? If so, you're going to love this! :P
For me, the emotional aspect of this story made the sex so much hotter than if it had been just plain erotica. Colum may be Viggo's slave, but there's a measure of kindness and caring there, and some very sexy possessiveness, that takes the sting out of Viggo's sometimes rough and callous treatment of Colum. There's also a mutual respect between the two of them, stemming from the surprising revelation that there's more to each of them than what the other expected.
I did feel a bit sorry for poor Niall (Colum's friend, who is also taken prisoner), although...I guess it wasn't too bad since he did seem to enjoy being used and abused. But I do hope Book 2 will find him with someone a bit kinder and more...appreciative of what he has to offer. Heh. :P(less)

Really good writing. Great plot/theme, which reminded me of one of my favourite movies: Surviving the Game (1994). And filled with lots of wonderful detail that makes you realize the author is either drawing from personal experience, or did some damn good research.
The only reason I didn't give this 5-stars is because I wish the game of cat-and-mouse had lasted a bit longer, and been a little more...intense and adrenaline-fueled. An actual chase scene (like in the video Derek showed him), and maybe a few near-catches and escapes, would have been much more exciting, rather than Sam just evading him the whole time until Derek suddenly dropped down on him from above at the end.
The sex was hot, and I really liked how the story was peppered with a few smaller, erotic scenes throughout, leading up to the main event at the end. I just wish that final scene had been a bit longer. It was really good, but I wanted...more. I'm greedy! :P
Oh, and there was also a little bit of mind-fuckery (the scene in the car) which I really enjoyed, and made me grin. As well as some dialogue from Sam, towards the end, that had me bursting out laughing. I really wasn't expecting that little twist at the end, and it was terrific! I can't wait to read the next one! :) (less)

Technically, the writing was pretty good (although it was peppered with quite a few spelling mistakes), and the opening of the story was intriguing. But once the boy was taken to the Minotaur's cell, it just went all to hell.
The boy's initial reaction (or more importantly, lack of) to the Minotaur was very underwhelming. Same thing with his reaction to finding out that this beast was going to fuck him. Tiny little human virgin, and he's just so blasé about it. Ummm...okay. And then there was the actual sex scene. I'm sorry, I don't care how much lube (or lotion, in this case) you slather on...a monster cock shoving right into a virgin ass (with absolutely no prep whatsoever) is going to cause tearing and bleeding. If you don't have any personal experience to draw from, then for God's sake, at least do some basic research. *sigh*
And then the story ended so abruptly that I was sure something was wrong with my copy, and I was missing a few pages. I'm not kidding...this is, hands down, the most abrupt ending I've ever seen. The word count on the Smashwords page shows 4,188 (approximate). I checked my .RTF copy it shows a word count of 4,174. So, yeah...I guess that's the whole story (nothing wrong with the download after all).
My recommendation: Do not waste your money on this. If not for that crappy, abrupt ending, I probably would have given this 2 stars. But even so, it's definitely not worth the price ($2.99). I had a few other books by this author on my to-read list. I'm going to take them off.

It does have a few good moments that were quite humorous, and the story itself was unique (not what you'd normally expect from a tentacle sex story), but it just left me feeling kind of...meh.
I also didn't find the sex scenes to be very hot or erotic either. And the very end of the story (after everyone opens the boxes under their chairs) was really over-the-top and ridiculous.
Also, be warned...there's a few instances of Tyler ogling his female boss's body parts, as well as a (brief) description of some female masturbation with the "sex toy".(less)

I'm finding I'm not a big fan of tentacle stories where it starts out as forced/rape, but then the victim is drugged and they're suddenly loving it. Or, where the ass is numbed so they don't really feel much of anything (except pleasure) during anal. Meh. :((less)
