In the beginning I was really enjoying it. I liked the author's writing style and absolutely loved the characters. Dar and Gregg are so sweet and wonderful together! (5-stars)
The body odor fetish was a little...odd. I've come across a few books that have lightly touched on this particular fetish, but this is the first one that really went in-depth. I found myself bouncing back and forth between finding it kinda hot/fascinating and being a little bit grossed-out.
After a while, though, the large chunks of "preachy", monologuing dialogue about gays was starting to irritate me and spoil my enjoyment of the story. (4-stars) And everything was just too much sunshine and roses. There was no conflict at all, and everyone was so accepting of their relationship, to the point where it felt way over-the-top and very unrealistic. (3-stars)
I also found the very intimate and very detailed "sex talk" between Dar and his parents kind of weird and...disturbing. I was actually more squicked out by that than I was by some of the more raunchy sex scenes.
And then I found myself just getting kinda bored with it all, so I've put it aside for now. (2-stars) I may go back at a later date and try to finish it......more
Love-love-loved this one! Hilarious, sweet, wonderful story that left me smiling.
I even teared up a couple of times. I could completely relate to AleLove-love-loved this one! Hilarious, sweet, wonderful story that left me smiling.
I even teared up a couple of times. I could completely relate to Alex (except for the part where he grew up to be hot/attractive - lucky bastard!).
This line in particular resonated with me the most: Whoever invented the saying, ‘sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me,’ obviously never endured verbal taunting.
This is a fun, laugh-out-loud, sweet (and emotional if you can relate) little fantasy that I thoroughly enjoyed. I really love this author's writing style and the voice he gives his characters. Highly recommended! And it's free!...more
**spoiler alert** This was an enjoyable story, but I found it difficult to decide on a rating. For some aspects of it, I wanted to give it 4 stars. Bu**spoiler alert** This was an enjoyable story, but I found it difficult to decide on a rating. For some aspects of it, I wanted to give it 4 stars. But after thinking about it for a while, I decided to knock off a star for a few reasons:
1) The ending didn't sit well with me at all. Not only did I find it a bit too sappy, but I also really disliked the fact that they both had sex with a female (to have children). I'm just thankful the author didn't subject us to any of the intimate details, but even so, just the mere mention of het sex in a M/M romance (especially when it involves the main characters) is enough to turn me off and ruin my enjoyment of the story.
2) The world building (what we saw of it) was unique and intriguing, but sadly a bit too vague and not nearly as fleshed out as I would have liked.
3) We get absolutely no explanation about what Raine really is, or how/why he has these special abilities. That was definitely the most baffling and disappointing part of the story for me. I kept waiting and waiting for the big reveal, or at least some kind of explanation as to why this "human" not only looks different from the others, but also has these incredible abilities...but it never happens. That was definitely a "WTF moment" for me, when I got to the last page and realized we'll never know... :(
4) The whole issue of Raine's repeated rape/beatings by the guards was horribly glossed-over and downplayed. I couldn't help but imagine someone standing on the sidelines saying, "Walk it off, boy!". And he did......more

-------------------- Story Prompt:
This young guy is a shy florist.
His dream is to build up a courage to ask out the sexy mechanic who works across the street. A mechanic who wears EYELINER that drives our florist crazy. He just doesn't know what to do! He doesn't even know if the sexy mechanic knows he's alive.
Wearing this kind of t-shirt (below) is a bit too blatant, isn't it? *grin*.
Well, if you can help him to get his HEA, you will make my florist's summer.
