But unfortunately, the hotness factor (of the previous book) was sadly lacking in this one. And the cliffhanger ending was extremely frustrating.
I'll probably buy the next one when it's published, but if it doesn't recapture the hot/erotic feel that the first book evoked, then I think I'm gonna call it quits with this series....more

Each sto**spoiler alert** Overall, this was a pretty solid anthology, and one I would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys this particular kink. Each story had its own unique take on the tentacle theme, and I enjoyed all of them. I just wish there had been more than four. Hopefully SMP will consider doing another tentacle antho (with a larger offering) sometime in the near future. :)
Ground Mission by Laylah Hunter - ★★★ [science fiction] The thing I liked most about this one was how one of the MCs is infected. That was a really nice surprise, and I loved seeing how they both reacted to this change. It made the sex scene incredibly hot! But on the flip side, I was really disappointed that he was cured in the end. What a shame... I couldn't help feeling sorry for them, that they'd never get to experience that again. Although, if was me, I'd probably go out and deliberately try to get infected again. LOL! The ending also seemed a bit rushed, with no explanation at all about how they were able to cure him.
Wildwood by Thea Hayworth - ★★★★ [fantasy] This one was really wonderful. Great setting, worldbuilding, plot, and characters. And I actually enjoyed the extra PoV from the various sub-characters. The only reason this didn't get a 5 star rating was because the tentacle/sex scene was so brief. And the ending was kind of bittersweet. That's a personal pet peeve, though. I really don't like sad or bittersweet endings.
Dark Covenant by Gryvon - ★★★ [dark fantasy] While I did enjoy this one, it was probably my least favourite of the bunch, only because it seemed a bit too ambitious for a short story. We don't really get any explanation about why the city is separated (between lower and upper), where these magical talents come from, why they only show up in certain people, etc. I really enjoyed Eramus. He was an extremely fascinating and intriguing character/entity, but again, not much explanation about who or what he was, or why he chose Eli, why he'd been watching and waiting for him. Basically, there were just too many things that were vague and/or unexplained. It has the foundation of what could be a terrific novel, but just didn't work all that well for a short story, IMO. But the one thing that really bothered me was the rape. I love non-con/rape in a story (if it's done well), but here it seemed very contrived. I just couldn't swallow the fact that someone would allow themselves to be repeatedly raped (every day for months) when they have someone extremely powerful watching over them, willing (and wanting) to step in at any moment to stop it, yet they choose not to accept that help, from someone who had already saved their life?
Situation Normal by Morgan Harcourt - ★★★★ [science fiction] This one was my favourite of the bunch. I want a 7-foot tall lizard alien with tentacles! LOL!! I see that this story is the author's first published work, and I really, really hope it won't be the last. The writing style was fantastic, I loved the characters, and the sex was very hot! The ending was a bit of a HFN cliffhanger and extremely frustrating, but not necessarily in a bad way. If the author is reading this, please, please... can we get a sequel?! :)...more

He's away from the ranch and the life as he has known it for the first time. He found a room in this, well, shabby inn, but mysterious things seem to happen all around. Things vanish, people don't remember that they met before (or pretend to) and someone threatens the owner of the inn (seemingly for no rason). And now, coming home from a long day of looking for a way to provide for himself, he finds somebody in his room, going through his things, drawing his secrets into the open. A bad thing? Or maybe his chance to start a new life with a new kind of love? I would be thrilled to read his story!

It's really rare for me to give a full 5 stars to short stories/novelettes, because no matter how good they might be, they usually tend to feel somewhat lacking due to the length. But, although this one did leave me desperately wanting more, overall it still felt very complete and satisfying.
Very well written, great plot and great characters! A definite page-turner, and highly recommended!
A note to the authors: Can we get a sequel? Pretty please! :D...more

TTop-notch writing, intriguing plot and characters, but ultimately I found the relationship between the two main characters to be quite unsatisfying. The synopsis promised a story full of hot, kinky BDSM and D/s content but never really delivered on that. It just felt like constant "foreplay" and hints of really erotic, steamy scenes to come (which is not necessarily a bad thing) but by the end of the book I felt like their relationship had really only just begun, and I was left feeling very frustrated and disappointed. But on the upside, the story does end with a bit of a cliffhanger and that gives me hope that maybe the sequel (if there is one) will hopefully deliver what this one did not. If that's the case, I'd revise my rating to 4 stars, but as a stand-alone it only gets 3.
Also, a word of warning for those who might feel the same way I do...there were a couple of hetero sex scenes in here that I was not expecting and didn't really appreciate. When I buy a book that's advertised as M/M, I really don't want to read about any explicit boy/girl action, especially when it involves one of the main characters....more
