There was also a het sex scene (albeit, brief) that did not sit well with me at all. And then there was mention of Viggo marrying and having children at some point in the future, but oh...he'll keep Colum on the side as his lover. Yuck. :( I realize that may be "authentic" to the time/setting, but nothing kills my enjoyment of a story faster than that particular scenario.
After that little tidbit of info (which was unhappily stuck in my mind) I just couldn't properly enjoy the rest of the story. And then, after Viggo had been quite cruel and cold in the beginning (which was a bit of a shock, and made me feel quite bad for Colum), there were a few moments between the two of them, towards the end, that were kind of overly sappy, and seemed very out of character. It was kind of weird, and reinforced that feeling I had of it being written by someone else.
I don't know...the writing itself was technically very good, which is why I decided to give it 3-stars. But for my personal enjoyment of the story, it's more like a 2-star read for me. So I doubt I'll be continuing with this series. :(...more

Did you watch the Vikings (2013) TV Series and imagine the storyline following a...slightly different script, from the point where Ragnar attacks the monastery and takes Athelstan as his slave? If so, you're going to love this! :P
For me, the emotional aspect of this story made the sex so much hotter than if it had been just plain erotica. Colum may be Viggo's slave, but there's a measure of kindness and caring there, and some very sexy possessiveness, that takes the sting out of Viggo's sometimes rough and callous treatment of Colum. There's also a mutual respect between the two of them, stemming from the surprising revelation that there's more to each of them than what the other expected.
I did feel a bit sorry for poor Niall (Colum's friend, who is also taken prisoner), although...I guess it wasn't too bad since he did seem to enjoy being used and abused. But I do hope Book 2 will find him with someone a bit kinder and more...appreciative of what he has to offer. Heh. :P...more

Technically, the writing was pretty good (although it was peppered with quite a few spelling mistakes), and the opening of the story was intriguing. But once the boy was taken to the Minotaur's cell, it just went all to hell.
The boy's initial reaction (or more importantly, lack of) to the Minotaur was very underwhelming. Same thing with his reaction to finding out that this beast was going to fuck him. Tiny little human virgin, and he's just so blasé about it. Ummm...okay. And then there was the actual sex scene. I'm sorry, I don't care how much lube (or lotion, in this case) you slather on...a monster cock shoving right into a virgin ass (with absolutely no prep whatsoever) is going to cause tearing and bleeding. If you don't have any personal experience to draw from, then for God's sake, at least do some basic research. *sigh*
And then the story ended so abruptly that I was sure something was wrong with my copy, and I was missing a few pages. I'm not kidding...this is, hands down, the most abrupt ending I've ever seen. The word count on the Smashwords page shows 4,188 (approximate). I checked my .RTF copy it shows a word count of 4,174. So, yeah...I guess that's the whole story (nothing wrong with the download after all).
My recommendation: Do not waste your money on this. If not for that crappy, abrupt ending, I probably would have given this 2 stars. But even so, it's definitely not worth the price ($2.99). I had a few other books by this author on my to-read list. I'm going to take them off.

I couldn't find any info on the author's website/blog either. Can anyone help, please? Is book 2 available anywhere else?...more

Great world-building so far (hope we get to learn more about it in the rest of the series), great plot, wonderful characters (I really loved Gaige and Keiran!), and not a single dull moment. It was a real page-turner.
There seem to be an awful lot of horridly written books in the M/M Romantica genre, and when I hit an unlucky streak of them, I tend to get very discouraged. Not to mention pretty damn grumpy about the wasted money. But it's books like this that renew my faith in the genre (and the authors) and keep me going.
I highly recommend this one, and I can't wait to read the next in the series!...more

I was also looking forward to reading what would have been my first foray into Mpreg. It started out quite good, but once Lucien and his companions (and Gabriel's bothers) were introduced, it all just went right down the toilet.
If this had been a contemporary, the dialogue and the way the characters acted would have been truly silly and juvenile. For a science-fantasy setting, with demon and alien characters...it was downright ridiculous. They all acted like a bunch of immature American teenagers and if I had to read the word "bro" one more time, I was going to scream.
The first third of this story (the point at which I gave up) was also riddled with errors. Whoever edited this book should have been smacked and then fired....more
