I liked it at the beginning. I lost interest in it 2/3 of the way through. The protagonist became more whiny as the story went on and the other characters fed in to it. At the end I didn't care for it. It is a highly religious story for the time. ...more

Lady Alexandra, Alex, Stafford has just turned seventeen and is being presented into London society. Her mother is pressuring her to marry already and Alex has her own thoughts on the matter. The one thing she didn't expect was how she would feel about her brothers' life long friend, the newly minted Earl Gavin Blackmoore, when she sees him again for the first time since he has come out of mourning. The only problem is that he seems to pulling away from her.
The Season is about friendship, romance, murder, and espionage. The Season is set in the late 1900's in London and I was surprised at the strong female characters. While you see the characters going through the London season you don't see the dainty women you would expect of the time. It was refreshing to see strong, independent female leads set in this era. I enjoyed the plot lines as they crossed over and all came together....more

Cinder is a cyborg who lives with her stepmother and her two step-sisters, Adri and Peony. Cinder is the best mechanic around and Prince Kai comes to see her in the market to have her fix his android. That same day there is a plague outbreak in the marketplace and Cinder mistakenly gives it to her sister, and closest human friend, Peony. Her stepmother gives her the “honor” of volunteering to be a research subject. That is when Cinder's life starts unraveling and her past, which she doesn't remember before coming to live with her stepmother, is revealed.
Cinder is set in New Beijing after the last World War. I was caught up with Cinder quickly. The plot is smooth and transitions well. I do wish that since it was set in Beijing that it had more Eastern traditions and descriptions in it. I felt the main characters were strong and you could love or hate them as they are described. Overall I would recommend Cinder to others. ...more

Katherine is a high school senior. She meets Michael at a New Years Eve party and they start dating shortly after. They go out with friends, stay in, and take trips together but much of their relationship is based around sex. They promise to stay together and love each other forever.
Forever… was a good read. It is about teenagers and their first sexual experience, dating, and relationships. I didn't feel any connection with the characters as we went through the story. One of my biggest problems is actually, what I consider, the over-use of ellipses. There is an overabundance of them throughout the book and it stalls what the character is saying. There is some sexually explicit material and phrases in the book as it seems their relationship is based around sex. That is the reason the book has been challenged or banned.
I picked Forever... because it is one of the top highly challenged books on the ALA's banned books list. I can see why parents or teachers can have a problem with the book but I don't see why it should be banned. What is written in the book is less provocative than what kids are exposed to everyday. ...more

Tom Lovett has a rare disease known as Quentin's Narcolepsy. It can make him fall asleep for days at a time or have hallucinations that leave him in a cold sweat. The hallucinations and attacks have gotten worse and he starts thinking that something is wrong. All Tom wants is a normal life. Then he finds out his narcolepsy is a cover for a second persona that lives inside of him and that his hallucinations are real. Now he has to find out who or what he is while saving himself and Madison, the girl who just moved in next door with her Aunt and Uncle.
Sleeper Code was hard to get into and is slow to start but picks up a few chapters into the book with some interesting twists. While you are in the characters' heads and expect to connect with them it just doesn't happen. They are flat and nothing really sticks out with either Tom or Madison. It's an easy read with some good twists. There is a cliff hanger at the end that will have you wanting to find out what happens in the next book if you liked this one....more
