Now, this was a H-O-T twist to the superhero genre. ;) It was very entertaining, and certainly original. YCLYMO is a fun, quick read about a superhero who needs to deal with her... frustrations. :D You can read a short excerpt here, if you'd like a taste of it. Go on and read it, I don't think you'll regret it. Grasshopper's funny, interesting, and gets herself into an electrifying situation. I really enjoyed it!(less)

She weaves some wonderfully deep, sexy, romantic tales and shares with us rich worlds of fantasy and the paranormal. And this was no exception.
Dean was a likeable character, as was Sunday. And I loved that they each had their own obstacles and issues to overcome before they could really share each other.

Kimberly is a teenager who suffers from horrible dreams about monsters. She also has terrible seizures that break her parents' heart. So, of course, they want to do anything they can to help and console her. But when she attends the prom and things take an unexpected turn, they have no choice but to do whatever it takes to help their daughter.
I really enjoyed this story. It kept me on the edge of my seat, trying to figure out what was just around the corner... because I knew it wouldn't be good. I felt sorry for Kimberly. The poor thing had no idea what was happening to her.
This is a creepy, creepy story that'll satisfy horror fans as well as anyone who likes to get a good scare just waiting for the monster to step out of the shadows! Loved it. And the end will definitely satisfy. :)(less)

Lettie sells makeup and when she stops by a rundown house she'd never noticed before and a woman in desperate need of a makeover opens the door, Lettie makes it her mission to make Olga beautiful. It doesn't matter how dry or damaged Olga's skin is, Lettie goes out of her way to make her look and feel better.
I enjoyed the natural flow of the tale and just how determined Lettie was to get the job done, no matter what the obstacles. And trust me, trying to makeover a zombie can be hard work. Lol. I laughed out loud a lot while reading this.
This story was fun, quirky, and funny. Oh, and I absolutely loved the ending. I kept waiting for something horrible to happen... (less)

You know the kind when you're not quite sure if you're awake or asleep, only to find yourself waking up all over again? And what a creepy cover too.
Donny's not well. Hounded by demons, all he does is run. He's trying to stay one step ahead of the demons. His life used to be normal and happy, with his parents and younger brother, Dallas. But one summer, when he was just a kid, Donny and his brother did something stupid. Something that caught the attention of a hoarde of demons and unleashed them onto the world. Well, he actually unleashed them onto himself. Because since that night, he hasn't known happiness. The demons toy with him, keep whispering inside his head, and promptly take any happiness away from him.
I really enjoyed this very dark tale of one man's quest to find peace, all the time knowing that it'll never truly come. He even wonders if death could be the answer he seeks. I won't tell you how that turns out, but I will say that I felt really bad for Donny all the way through. This is a psychological story that gets under your skin and makes you squirm by the sheer weight of what's going on, both inside and outside Donny's mind.
Any story that can make me do that is one that's worth reading! It also serves as a warning about curiosity. Some things are best left alone.(less)

Bounty is half-hobgoblin and when her flighty mother leaves her, she gets adopted by the kind Ma Fortuna. She becomes part of the big family, and when she's seventeen takes off with one of the Fortuna kids to find their own way.
Since Bounty is full of ideas and mischief, she convinces Luc to steal from a hero so that he can become one. Although their adventure starts together, it doesn't take long for them to find separate paths.
I really enjoyed this quirky, well-written fairy-talesque story. It was a lot of fun and Bounty turned out to be a very interesting character.(less)

Skennar is a truckie. He's also not a very nice person with a dodgy past. He's a druggie. And cruel. Not to mention a psycho who totally loses it and does a really bad thing over a stupid gesture. I disliked him almost instantly and kept hoping something bad would happen to him.
The ending wasn't great either. :/
Bottom line: I'm afraid this story didn't work for me.(less)

It was well written, and although I got a taste of this witchy character, it really wasn't enough to get into this world. Also, I usually like selkies, but there was something really sleazy about this guy... o_O

Zoey is an empath and is always willing to help Hidden creatures/monsters. Heck, she has a closet monster and his gargoyle brother-in-law staying with her. But when a cute green baby is dumped at her house, it's a problem she hadn't expected. The cutie happens to be half dryad and half satyr, so taking care of her isn't easy.
But Zoey's determined to find her parents and gets herself into a whole heap of trouble!
I love the way this supernatural world is opening up, and the satyr imagery was both hilarious and frightening. I also enjoyed seeing another--more horrifying--side of Maurice. I actually think their friendship is awesome.
This is another excellent Monster Haven Story that the lovely author is actually offering for free. You should check it out! :)(less)

The year is 1984, the world is at war and Big Brother not only controls everything and everyone, but he can also see what everyone is doing. Every home and place of work has a telescreen which spits out propaganda, news, and can watch your every move.
In this world, there is no privacy. There's no individual thought. There's only fear and hate. Children are horrid little spies, marriages are organised, and betrayal happens all the time. It's a barren society with no colour.
It's also where Winston Smith's story takes place. He's in the Outer Party and works at the Ministry of Truth. He plays by the rules just like everyone else, but when he starts secretly writing in a journal his whole life changes. Now he's starting to think about things, he's starting to question why the past needs to be altered, and can actually remember instances of changes being made that he knows are false. He's also noticed Julia.
When the two start seeing each other in secret, they both know they're breaking the rules and will eventually get caught. But neither one of them cares because Winston is falling in love with her, and has become obsessed with the rebellion...
I kept hoping that Winston and Julia would just runaway and escape the Party, but of course they don't do that.
This book is an amazing read! It's well written, hooked me in right away, has some pretty elaborate worldbuilding, and a narrator that you can really feel for. I have to admit that at one point the info got a bit much, but I soon forgot about that because of the devastating situation that followed. :(
It's a sad story about a man who wants the world to be different but has to pretend he's compliant like everyone else. It's also a story about forbidden love and the strength of the human spirit. It's also about endurance and being pushed so far that breaking point becomes the only solution.
It's one of the best books I've ever read, yet at the same time it saddened and angered me. It's depressing, and the ending tore me up inside because it's just so hopeless. But I have to admit that it's fitting, and certainly didn't go the way I expected.
Yeah, I loved it. This is one of those books that leaves a lasting impression on you.(less)

Katie is devastated after the death of her mother. To make matters worse, she finds out that her aging grandparents can't take her in. And that's how she ends up in Japan--alone and unable to speak the language fluently. But the fascinating thing is that something strange is happening to her.
Tomohiro is haunted by shadows every night, and has trouble controlling the monster within. Not to mention that drawing is dangerous. Still, he tries to be normal by having a girlfriend... until he realises there'll never be anything normal about him.
I loved this novella! It was interesting, sad, dark and intriguing. Both main characters are fascinating in their own ways, and I can't wait to find out more about them. I also enjoyed reading a story set in a different culture.
Yeah, after reading this novella I'll definitely be buying INK. :)(less)
