I have to be honest, I was so consumed with this book that I would lose chunks of time. It sucked me in from the first word and left me on tenterhooks waiting for the next book, I needed it right there and then. Ana was such an easy character to love and don't even get me started on Jackson *swoon* The two come from complete opposite backgrounds and it's very true what they say about opposites attract. They make the perfect couple. Nothing goes right for them but they are such a strong couple that they battle anything life throw at them. Ana doesn't realise just how strong she is and it endeared her to me even more. The way this book flowed was truly brilliant. It was fast paced and a true page turner, I could barely put it down. When I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it. I cannot wait for the second book now and I truly hope that it is as stunning as this one. This is the first book of Lianne's that I have read, but it certainly won't be the last. Why? Because she is a very clever author. She leaves you guessing and begging for more. I love how this book wasn't predictable, it had twists and turns that you didn't see coming. I love reading because it takes me to a different world and the world that Lianne has created is one I could gladly live in forever. If you want a book to fall in love with, I strongly suggest you read Loyalty and Lies. Thank you Lianne for the ARC. Congratulations on an amazing novel. I can't wait for the next part of Ana and Jackson's journey. ...more

Part of me wants to pick up Eluding Nirvana straight away, but another part of me feels so torn apart that I cannot form a coherent thought. I identify with Kady on a personal level, although I've never had amnesia, I have suffered the way she has from traumatic experiences at the hands of a so-called "loved one". I even identify with the connection she has with Walker. I completely understand it from a personal point of view. What happened to Kady brought back horrific memories and I hope her tormentor goes to Hell in a hand basket. It's more than he deserves.
This book is written so damn well. The author draws you in in an instant and has your emotions in a jumble until the end. I don't know whether or not the author has drawn on personal experiences or a lot of research for this book. I hope she has never been through what Kady has, because I know what it's like to be there. This story took me back to those dark days in my life and it haunted me throughout, knowing that Kady feels helpless and powerless over her own life. I wished I could reach into the pages and pull her from despair. Alas, I was not able to do so and felt like a powerless bystander looking in on her life. I truly hope she finds peace. For herself, for her heart and for her soul.
Well done VL Brock for the execution of this tumultuous story. I look forward to meeting you at the signing in July 2015. I want to tell you face to face what a vile piece of scum I think Liam is....more
oh my goodness, this book was just what I needed. After having read two heart-wrenching books, this sweet love story was the tonic I needed. Shane stroh my goodness, this book was just what I needed. After having read two heart-wrenching books, this sweet love story was the tonic I needed. Shane struck me as the perfect guy. He's unbelievably adorable and so in love with Heidi, even if he can't see it at first. And as for Heidi, she has a tendency to guard her heart after Jason being an award winning A-hole. But this story explores first loves and what can happen if you open up to giving that person a second chance. A beautifully written novel where each character has a unique voice, The One That Got Away will remind you of your first love, even when you don't want it to. It made me question "What if" about my own first love. I loved hearing from both Heidi & Shane's POV. I was glued to this book from the opening sentence. It has a great ending, but it left me hungering for more. Especially more gorgeous Shane.
This book is witty, clever and full of hope. As long as you have hope, you're never alone. This is one of my favourite reads of 2014 and is the kind of book that if I feel low, I am bound to read again. It's something to re-read when you need a "pick me up" or, just because you can't get enough of Shane Mich Feeney has a unique and distinct voice as an author and though this is the first of her books that I've read, I know it's by far not the last. There's no stagnation, everything flows at a great pace. It has you laughing, crying and wanting to throttle Jason. I hope everyone enjoys this book just as much as I did. I think it would be hard not to. Thank you Mich, for the ARC, and for giving me a sweet, touching story that keeps hope alive....more

I had thought that Sherry needed to go a long way to top book one because I was so swept away by it, but this book tops it and then some!! I am deeply in love with Sergei and I hate Peter with a vengeance. He is a despicable, deplorable excuse for a human being. Truth be told, this book is one of my favourites in a long time. Everything from the plot, to the characters, to the pacing is just perfect. There wasn't anything that felt too rushed or too slow. There wasn't anything I didn't enjoy, save for one scene that I will leave you to discover for yourself. And even then, the scene needed to happen to make the story what it was. I think Catherine is one of the strongest lead characters I have come across. She takes so much in her stride. Things that would break any ordinary person do not break her, they only strengthen her resolve. She amazes me. The Empress, as ever, is a wicked, wily bitch who would sell her own Grandmother (a British saying if ever there was one). She is deplorable in ways unimaginable. Sherry Ficklin has blown me away with this book. The fact I know nothing of the historical characters she describes matters not. It's her version of the characters I am interested in. From the good guys to the utterly detestable, she writes them truly marvelously. A beautifully executed story, with plot twists and turns that keep you on your toes, Queen of Tomorrow will keep you entertained to the last. I am dying for the next book and know that whatever she has in store, Sherry will deliver it in style....more
I really don't know what to say in this review. The biggest part of me wants to gush about all the things I loved and rant about all the things/charac I really don't know what to say in this review. The biggest part of me wants to gush about all the things I loved and rant about all the things/characters I hated (I only hate them because L.T Kelly did her job right and made me hate them) but I know that I can't sit here and spoil the book for you. If you read my review of book #1, FALLING TO PIECES, you will know that I loved it completely and utterly and didn't think another book could match it. But, this book is just as good, if not better. I fell into the story head first. The ease of L.T Kelly's writing style made it impossible not to get sucked in. The journey was one of emotional torment. FTP was enough of an emotional roller coaster that I wasn't sure if my heart could take another beating - but I took the chance anyway, proving I was right - my heart now feels like someone tore it out of my chest, trampled all over it and then stuffed it's broken shell back in my body, barely beating. I love how some books can reel you in and make you feel an emotional bond with the characters. To be honest, I am a glutton for punishment, I like it when the author can make me feel as though I have taken an emotional beating. Well L.T Kelly certainly did that. I was already heartbroken at the end of FTP and it only continued in Falling Into You. This book was written with such passion, it was undeniable. It is so easy to see that L.T Kelly loves her characters and she made me love them just as much. Going into this story, I didn't believe I could love anyone as much as I loved Marc Romano. Well knock me down with a feather, I loved Geo just as much. I don't like books with love triangles as a rule, and this isn't a triangle per se, but I fell in love with BOTH brothers. Geo is charismatic, magnetic, you can't help but be drawn to him because he is beautiful and could charm a woman's pants off without a single touch. I can't gush to you too much about the story-line or the characters, I'd be giving too much away, but you really don't want to miss this amazing book. You can tell that L.T Kelly wrote this book from her heart. She created some beautiful, astounding characters that have left footprints on my heart. The story flows beautifully and with the sneaky little twists and turns, you will never know what's coming until the wind is knocked out of your sail. The good characters are written well, yes, but then so are the bad guys. An authors job is to make you hate certain characters with a passion and oh boy did I hate them. The very fact that I feel this way is a testament to how well this story is written. This story is one of love, lust, betrayal, hurt and so much more. The core of it is that Teagan wants it to be possible for her to be with the guy she loves, but love proves that it comes when you least expect it. Love can be profound and beautiful and can come from a source you least expect. When you stop looking for love, it comes looking for you. Sometimes, what you believe to be love is merely lust, your mind confusing the feelings until they blur into something you pin your hopes on being love, but in the end, isn't really.
I said at the start that this story tugged at my emotions. It made me laugh, it made me cry and it made me so infuriated that I wanted to punch someone. I don't know whether to applaud L.T Kelly for a job well done or maybe want to throttle her for hanging my heart out to dry. She buoyed my emotions up, she battered them back down. She twisted and turned them so that I didn't know what I was feeling. Now that I am done reading, I sat here and cried before writing this review. I listened to the song Falling Into You by Celine Dion, a long time favourite of mine from childhood and I read the last chapter whilst listening. This made it all the more emotionally draining. But at the same time, it made me happy for Teagan.
Each chapter of FIY has a song under the chapter title and it is my advice that you listen to the song before or during the chapter. If you can listen and read, like I did, it makes the experience of this story even better.
Thank you Lucy for the chance to review your amazing books. I loved them both dearly. I will never forget Marc and Geo. The are a part of my heart. Every book takes you away on a journey and this was one I never wanted to end. I was so wrapped up in the walls of the world you created and I wanted to live there, permanently. I know now that these are two books I will read over and over again. ...more

It would take a whole novel to really tell you why I enjoyed this book so much, but I'll try to keep it short and sweet, and of course, non-spoilery!
I haven't read a book about vampires in so long that I couldn't honestly name you the last one I read. There was a time when vampires were all I read and I devoured so many books about them, but in recent times, it seems I cannot find one that intrigues me enough for me to pick it up. Sure, I still have unread vampire books on my Kindle, but when I come to choosing what to read, they are never at the top of the pile. All that changed when I saw Falling To Pieces. I don't know what came over me but I felt this intense desire, this deep need to read this book. And let me tell you, I am extremely glad I did. LT Kelly has this way of drawing you in and not letting you go, it's like she has the ability to cloud your mind so that all you see is her story and her characters become these real, tangible people that are there for you to discover and have fun while you do it. Does that sound silly to you? Maybe it does, but all I can tell you is for two days this book consumed me and I wouldn't have had it any other way. The character building was phenomenal. The world building was unquestionably imaginative and unique. The passion with which LT Kelly writes is what really sucks you in though. You can feel her love for and bond with each and every character, both good and bad. Teagan is a wonderful young vampire, living with her maker, Thomas. She does everything she is told without question. That is, until the night they arrive from America. They've moved to England and Teagan needs to feed. Whilst in search of something to snack on, she finds herself lusting after something else, a smell so intoxicating, she begins to feel desire for the first time in her vampire life - one-hundred and fifty years. Teagan cannot fathom the pooling of desire she is feeling and doesn't know what to do about it - she isn't even sure of exactly what it is she is feeling, so how does she satiate her desire?
Marc is a mystery. He's an enigma. Charismatic, devilishly handsome and of course, smells so intoxicating. He's desirable on all levels. Only, there's something that Teagan can't put her finger on, something 'other' about him. But he's not a vampire, she'd know if he was.
With how drawn she has become to Marc, will she find out 'what' he is and if she does, will it have an impact on the future of their relationship? Is what she feels for him too good to be true? Could it just be blood-lust? How will their respective families feel about the unexpected union of the two? What will the fallout be? Can Teagan and Marc survive all that is to come their way? There are so many questions here, and yet I cannot give you the answers you seek. Instead you must dive into the world of Teagan and Marc, using your heart to guide you.
Beautifully written, intricately woven with intrigue, desire, love, lust, guilt, hurt and betrayal, Falling To Pieces is an emotion-coaster that once you get off, you are left feeling the desire to go through it all over again just to be near the ones you have come to love. How LT Kelly managed to make me feel such powerful emotions over this, I will never know. I swooned over Marc. I felt stabbed in the back on Teagan's behalf. I wanted so much to hurt Gabriella, not to mention others along the way. My feelings were so up and down. One minute I was happy, the next, I was plummeted so low that I was crying over my Kindle. This is definitely going straight to the top of two piles, one is my 'to-be-read-again' and the other is 'most favourite'....more

I don't really know where to start or what to tell you without completely gushing and ruining your own enjoyment of this story. I was asked if I wanted to read and review His Hometown Girl and of course, I couldn't refuse. I adore Karen Rock and have read the Camp Boyfriend series she wrote with her sister, Joanne. I wanted to read more of Karen's writing and was desperate to get my hands on this book in particular. I thought I was prepared for this story, boy was I wrong. I fell into this particular journey believing that I would adore the characters, but I didn't know jut how much it would affect me. I fell completely in love with Daniel Gleason, but it wasn't just him that I fell for. I have no real words to accurately describe what this book meant to me. It's a love story of a different kind. It's a powerful, emotional story of the love a mother has for her son and the lengths she will go to in order to give him the life he deserves - she will not only protect him but she will do the things she vowed not to do because it means giving her son the best life she can. This story is about learning to open your eyes to the bigger picture and not just solely focus on one small part of it. Tyler is autistic and so everything is just that much harder for single mom, Jodi. She wants to give him the best education she can, but with the fees for the private school being so high, Jodi has to really strive to achieve the promotion she is in line for. Midland have told Jodi that if she can go back to her hometown and acquire a certain amount of acreage from local farmers, then they will give her a bonus and a promotion. To Jodi, this is what she needs in order to give Tyler the best life possible. She doesn't really think of herself at all. She is, in fact, one of the most selfless characters I have come across. Daniel is her ex-boyfriend and also her biggest childhood rival, the competition between these two was always fierce. Daniel wants the local farmers to join his co-op in order to preserve their land, their farms, their families heritage but Jodi wants to swoop in and buy up all the farms in order to please Midland and get back to her life. Not only has her ex husband not seen Tyler, he has also sued to lower his child support payments. Life for mother and son is one obstacle after another and she needs to set things on a better path for their future.
Going back home was harder than Jodi thought. It stirred up those feelings she had for Daniel, it made her yearn for "home" but competing with that is a mother's love for her son and just what she will do in order to give him the life he needs.
For me, one of the biggest things was the fact that Daniel is amazing. He's got all the character traits that a girl could wish for, tall, handsome, winning smile - but what made him stand out for me was the fact that he was so accepting of Tyler. He didn't look at Tyler like he was disabled or a "problem to be solved" like many other people did. I am disabled myself and I know just how it is to be judged on your disability, not the person you are beneath the label. So when Daniel went and got Tyler the 'girl toy' (read HHG and you will know which scene I mean) it made me smile from ear to ear, and shed a tear or two because he's such an amazing guy. He's kind, thoughtful, patient, tender, loving and he loves Jodi and Tyler for who they are. Tyler deserves the whole world and this was Jodi's way of trying to give it to him. Was the journey hard? Definitely. Was it emotionally fraught? Definitely. Was it absolutely beautiful and compelling? HELL YES!...more

I don't really know wFirst of all, I would like to say how absolutely stunning this cover is! I have hardly seen a cover more beautiful than this one. I don't really know where to begin this review. It's been less than 24 hours since I finished it and my feelings are all stilll a jumble. I went to bed late last night after finishing it and my head was a mess of incoherent sentences, my face tear stained and my heart heavy and light at the same time. How? You ask. I don't technically know. The end had me happy in one way and sad/mad in another. Sad/mad because I now have to wait until probably next Summer before a sequel comes out. Honestly, the only bad thing I could find about this story was that it had to end. Right from the moment I started reading, I was lost, submerged in another world entirely. I wasn't just reading the book, I was living it. I have to say it is hands down THE best YA book I have read in a long time and there have been some fantastic ones lately.
Evie is a mask maker. She lives in a world where everybody wears a mask. This is essentially the person's identity. They wear masks of a certain colour to show what occupation they have. The only ones other than outsiders that don't really wear masks are the Lacies. Who are the Lacies? Read the book and you'll find out! Evie lives and works with her father who also makes masks - she hopes one day to be as good at it as he is. But one day, Evie's life is turned inside out, back to front and upside down. She's left having to make a decision that forces her into hiding. She goes into hiding at the Palace as a server. Armed with her new identity, new job and new home, Evie must learn to hide who she was and where she's from. But there's one person in the world that would find her anywhere she went, Aiden. *swoons* I fell utterly head over heels in love with Aiden. He's kind, gentle, thoughtful, compassionate, everything you could want in a man. He's a good friend to Evie and she can't even begin to imagine what life would be like without him, so she's amazed at how he found her but happy that he did. Living at the Palace has its ups and downs, it's not plain sailing by any means. But with Aiden by her side, Evie believes she'll cope with the tiresome tasks the Kitchen Mistress has her doing. Aiden is at the Palace for reasons Evie does not know, but she doesn't really care, as long as she has him to turn to at the end of a long day. Aiden manages to make everything seem that much better.
Life for Evie is hard but she's a strong girl and she won't let anything break her, no matter how hard some people try. I admire her strength and courage, she's a fighter and I always love it when a character is so fiercely independent. There is nothing worse than a woman that needs a man to validate her - in life as well as in fiction. It's nice to see she is not a weeping little thing that everyone must feel sorry for. Yes, she's got it tough, but she's a survivor. It's great to see her grow throughout the story too. She flourishes beautifully.
I fell in love with the magic of this storyline. I'll share with you my Goodreads status updates: At 61%: "This story is amazing. There's no better way to describe it, at least without the aid of a dictionary and too many characters for this status update! The neat little twists & turns have me marvelling and my head spinning. I am so carried away by the story arc. It's emotional, funny, heart-wrenching and sad. I really feel for poor Evie." At 65%: "Aiden is an enigma wrapped up in a mystery. I love him (a LOT) and Evie is such a wonderful girl - I want a HEA! Just ordered a signed copy of this book and I can't wait for it to arrive. It's so beautiful." At 91%: "I am a blubbering, snotty mess right now. I hoped this was how it would play out." But then just 2 pages later, I was thinking what the...?! I hadn't expected what happened. Then my last status was this: "Oh my sweet goodness!! What an ending! I have to say this is hands down THE best YA book I have read in a long time and there have been some pretty amazing ones, I can tell you. But this one? This had me glued to it with the intrigue of it all. I have cried so hard it's beyond words but I'll write my review tomorrow when I can think coherently. All I can say for now is WOW!!" As you can see by these remarks, I really loved this book. It had it all; mystery, intrigue, great world and character building as well as a great bit of drama. There are such neat little twists and turns that you really don't see until they happen. There was one thing I hoped for with all my heart, but I won't tell you what it is or whether I got my wish. All I will say is, I really didn't want it to be the end, when I got to the last page, tear-stained face and all, I just wanted a sequel to be able to pick up right away. I went to bed with my head a jumble of thoughts and it is only now that I can begin to unravel them.
Lauren Skidmore is a very talented author and I am awestruck by the fact that this is her debut novel. As an author myself, I can only dream of my readers being as in love with my work as I am Lauren's. She's got a captive audience in me for as long as she continues to write. Whatever she writes, I will continue to devour. Especially if I get more Aiden. He's definitely worth the book-hangover I have right now. Though, I don't like these withdrawal symptoms! Congratulations to a brilliant author on a beautifully written book that I hope goes on to become a best-seller. I am really looking forward to getting my signed copy in the mail! ...more

The trouble is, I don't think I have enough words - at least not coherent ones - that can sum this book up. It was beautiful, amazing, heart-wrenching, sad, happy... I felt so many emotions whilst reading it that it was like being on a roller coaster with the ups and downs, twists and turns, all things I didn't see coming. When I read Dear Emily, I didn't think it could get any better, but Trudy Stiles has gone and brought her A-game to the table yet again and blown me away. If you haven't read Dear Emily, then you are seriously missing out. You can read my review of it here.
Dear Tabitha is the story of a broken girl who seeks love, redemption and most importantly family. Tabby has never felt like she truly belonged, at least not since Trina died. All she wants is a family of her own. She needs to love and to be loved. She's grown up a lot since Dear Emily and it's good to see her in a good place in her life. But all that is under threat of collapse now that Alex is back and wants to see her. He's been on the road with the band but now he's home, he wants to see Tabby and nothing can prepare either of them for what is about to happen. In this book, we learn more about Tabby's past and the gruelling, despicable things she has had to endure. Trudy Stiles is an amazingly talented author and she has managed to create a tangled web of lies, abuse, rape and more hurt than one person should be able to handle. We see Tabby at her weakest point, but then we see her life progress and how she goes from broken to strong in one long journey. This is a story packed with so many powerful emotions that I found myself stopping reading to cry numerous times. It was a tumultuous journey for the reader as well as the characters, but that doesn't mean it can't end well. I won't spoil the ending for you - in fact I won't spoil anything at all by going into too much detail. Suffice to say though, the ending had me crying tears of a different kind. I absolutely loved the characters. From Tabby to Alex, Dax, Tristan, Kirsten and yeah, even Garrett and eventually, Seth. Seth made it initially hard to give a damn about him, but yeah, now I can't wait for the Forever Family book #3 which is his story.
You can be sure Dear Tabitha will have a place in my heart. I went through some similar things to Tabby and it endeared her to me all the more, I felt a real connection with her. That was one of the best things about this whole story, the characters were tangible, real, as though I could reach through the pages and touch them like they touched me. ...more
Where to start this review, that's the question. This book left me speechless for a while. I was in tears and couldn't see to type. This story is one of love, trust and inexplicable bonds - it really a true love tale. There are trials and tribulations along the way, but who better to face them with than your best friend?
Adria Catarr is our heroine and it's her journey we follow. It all starts one fateful night at the Midsummer Festival when she meets the crown prince, Lando Cardé. He's handsome and kind, pays her compliments and whisks her off her feet at the dance. Just like that, Adria believes she's in love and goes home with a feeling of joy in her heart. Upon finding out that Lando is in the dauphin of Masselia, Adria believes it's her destiny to find him and she sets off on a journey with her best friend Kaiden Sordell who is travelling to try and get a place at a very prestigious school.
We follow along as the two friends have an adventure together on their way to Masselia. Kaiden is in love with Adria and has been since they were children, but will he tell her and if so, will she reciprocate the feelings?
Adria is in for a bit of a shock upon her arrival in Masselia and Kaiden is in for a shock of his own. The pair are drawn back together and set off on another journey, this time a much more fateful one. This time, they seek out the Temple of the Red Mare. There, they will discover much more than they ever thought possible.
What truths will the pair reveal? That's for you to read the book and discover!
If you read this story, you won't be sorry you did. It was a beautiful novel, cleverly written so that you don't know what's around the corner. There is much laughter but also many tears to be beheld within the pages. This book should come with a warning that reads: "WARNING: A whole box of tissues required." I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I couldn't put it more honestly than this: The Lioness: A True Love Tale is a revitalising story of how true love is something that makes you rise. When you are in love, you don't fall, you rise. If it weighs you down, the truth is it probably isn't true love. It reminds you that love is something special that isn't taken by rights, it's given freely. ...more

If you read HIM, you will know Sarah Miller's side of the story, but now it's time to get inside the head of Will Price. In my review of HIM, I gushed over one of the most amazing story I had read in a while. Let me tell you, HER is no different in that respect. It's just as amazing, if not more so. Last time we only got Sarah's POV of what happened. I fell in love with Will and couldn't wait to get his side of things. Now was my chance and I grabbed it with both hands, jumping head first into a story that would leave an imprint on my heart. I am sure that Carey Heywood writes books to make me cry. I knew from reading HIM that I would need tissues, so I came prepared. That preparation was not mental though. I was on tenterhooks needing to know why Will did what he did and why things happened the way they did. Not having the mental preparation ahead of time meant that this book wormed it's way in and gripped my tear ducts until they overflowed, even at the slightest things. This story was so real and tangible, it felt like the characters were friends and each time they experienced the smallest hint of emotion, I was right there with them. Will and Sarah were apart for 7 years and this was their journey to see if they could find their way back to each other. Their love is the kind of love many of us can only dream of. Seven years is a long time to not be able to move on from or forget love. I mean, I still remember my first love, even 11 years down the line, but I haven't lived my life in hope that we'll reconnect, nor will I. But for some people, their first love is their only. It's real and impossible to deny. That's what Will and Sarah had and Will would do anything in his power to get the girl he can't get out of his head back into his life....more

That being said, let's get on with my review...
I had been chomping at the bit for Ayla's release since the last word on the last page of Grishma. If you haven't read my review of Grishma, but would like to do so, you can do here. When Kelly asked me if I'd like an ARC, I would've bitten her hand off if it weren't for the fact that we're on opposite sides of the pond. I'm so glad to have been given the opportunity to read it early, but let me tell anyone waiting for the release, it's really worth the wait. It's got even more action than Grishma, as if that were possible. It's got drama, tension and love by the bucket load. I was glad to get more of a chance to be one-on-one with Ryder this time round. I have to say, I'm in love with him. He's an all round good guy and his affection for Brooklyn is so pure. This time round, Ryder is in Necoh and has plans to kill Grishma for what she did to his family. But his revenge may have to be put on hold when something throws a spanner in the works.
I love Kelly's writing style. It's so fun and easy-going. She has a laid-back air about her even in the midst of the chaos that is this story. I love how she combines the feelings of tension, anger, passion and they flow seamlessly. My emotions were up and down like a roller coaster whilst reading this book. There were so many bumps in the road for both Ryder and Brooklyn and I felt really sorry for them that nothing was ever simple. But you know what they say, nothing easy is worth having!
I truly loved this book and I hope you will too. If you haven't picked up a copy of Grishma, do that now before Ayla is released, then you can be all caught up.
Thank you for reading my short but sweet review (I didn't want to give anything away)....more
I have to be honest, this is only the second book I have read by this author, yet I can already tell she is an all-round superstar. The other book I h I have to be honest, this is only the second book I have read by this author, yet I can already tell she is an all-round superstar. The other book I have read of hers is called Soul Ties and is a Paranormal Romance, then here's this Contemporary Romance which has just come along to show that Lisa can switch-up the genres and be able to pull it off with deft ease.
This is the story of Vanessa and Evan. The two meet by chance when Ness's friend Abby is dating Evan's friend Matt. There's an attraction between the two but Evan's reputation as a charmer precedes him and Ness doesn't want to get caught up in the drama. Abby and Ness room together, and Abby has a habit of holding parties til stupid o'clock in the morning. Ness can't get away from the student life even though she isn't one. She decided not to follow along the path that she had previously been on. Her parents wanted her to study but she decided to get a job instead.
Evan is attracted to Ness. Maybe it's the fact that she's gorgeous, maybe it's the fact she doesn't seem interested or maybe it's both. When Ness looks at Evan, all she can see is his reputation for being the 'love them and leave them' type of guy. She can't deny she's attracted to him but as drawn as she is, she doesn't want to be just another notch on his bed post.
What ensues is a tale of a not-so-straightforward romance. Don't forget, there's Lucy to consider. But just who is the mysterious Lucy and what hold does she have on Evan?
I would definitely recommend this book to lovers of Contemporary Romance and anyone who loves an emotionally gripping story. I was so drawn into this story. I had an emotional investment in it from the beginning. I felt as though Lisa had written the role of Vanessa for me. She has sass and doesn't take any messing. She is just my kind of girl. This book was full of sexual tension and oh-so-witty banter and repartee. There were times aplenty when I had to laugh out loud at some of the moves Evan was trying to pull and Ness wasn't having any of it. But then there were also times when my mood was brought down, take for instance my Goodreads status at 72% in:
"I just can't hold them back any longer... Hot salty tears are racing each other quietly down my cheeks as I take in all that Evan is and what he and Ness could be... I want my own real-life Evan, minus the "issues"" and my status update when I finished:
"I couldn't go to bed because I simply had to finish not just want to, but HAD to finish this book. I seriously adore Evan and Vanessa. The whole man-whore thing was so... well, you'll see... I am bowled over by Lisa's beautiful words and her insight into "the issues" - I am crying my eyes out but trying to be quiet so as not to wake my son!"
In all honesty, I can NOT wait until the next book in this series, I think I might have bitten my fingers off in the slow, agonizing wait!...more
I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up Soul Ties and when I finished it, I realised I must have had some expectations because it didn't end upI wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up Soul Ties and when I finished it, I realised I must have had some expectations because it didn't end up being at all what I thought. From the way it was written, to the story content itself, I was swept away by a fast-paced, page-turning book that kept me on my toes and guessing what might come next. But each time I thought I knew what to expect next, I was proved entirely wrong.
Ava is a soul-hunter, sent to capture Keir's Nephilim soul and return it to the Celestia, his soul is what she plans to trade for her freedom. Without his soul, the Celestia will not give Ava her Will. When Ava meets Keir, he has an attitude and a best friend who's attitude is even worse. From the off, neither Keir nor Dahlia like Ava and don't like having to endure being in her company. But they can't just shake her off. She's been sent to do her job and will not return without his soul in the gem provided for retrieval. As the story moves along, we find Dahlia may have reasons for her reticence to trust the new girl, but still, she keeps up the attitude as if she doesn't have an off-switch. Keir however, begins to warm to Ava's presence. He's attracted to her like she is to him. That makes things a tad more difficult. She wants to get close to him to take his soul, but the more she gets to know him, the less she wants to take it. What's more important, doing the Celestia's bidding and retrieving Keir's soul to get her Will or helping Keir's cause, falling deeper in love with the secretive yet unforgettable Nephilim?
Soul Ties isn't just your straight-forward love story. There are so many things getting in the way of Keir and Ava's possible relationship. They don't trust each other, he's Nephilim and she's a soul-hunter, those things alone make life very difficult but what makes Ava question everything is the way Keir hunts and captures Demons in order to free their souls. Nephilim don't track and kill other Demons, so what is Keir's agenda?
To find out Keir's agenda and see if the unlikely pair can come together despite the many obstacles in their way, you need to pick up a copy of Soul Ties for yourself.
I love Lisa Swallow's easy style of writing. She writes a complicated plot with many twists, but she makes it all easy to understand. That's no mean feat. Some people write complicated tings just for the sake of it. Swallow's world building doesn't take a lifetime to get to get to grips with. I can't wait for books 2 and 3. From what I hear, book 2 is from Dahlia and Jack's POV and book 3 picks up Keir and Ava's story. I for one would love to hear from Keir's own POV. I hope that's something Swallow will consider as she writes more of the soul tied world.
Thank you Lisa for the e-copy of Soul Ties, I would LOVE a signed copy to go with my special signed books collection. Here's hoping you a) sell signed copies or b) have bookplates!...more
