One of the most fluffy books I've read so far...but..suprisingly cute. Not sure if I'd put it as young adult since it was pretty innocent. I'll elaborate more once I write this one up today. But I'm shocked that I actually liked this.

Uhhhmmm yeah that was me after I finished this....big suprise?
I honestly don't know WHY I loved this book more then the average having read dystopian novels lately back to back since the Hunger Games is coming out. It's all the "rage" now. If you haven't noticed, I've been kind of absent from good reads for awhile yet and from reading, so after having finished the Ugly series, Divergent, started on Delerium, and others my kindle decided to ping me this book as a "recommendation". Thank you Betsy (my kindle has a name yes) Honestly, I hadn't heard of anything good that came out and this was on sale so I thought what the heck. Sometimes things suprise you.
I'm actually suprised that I enjoyed it. The beginning is VERY slow, the idea of "realms" has been used before, there is nothing particularly that is UNIQUE about this story other then the Aether. But once you get past Aria's stubborn naive attitude and the beginning chapters of boringness, the story DOES pick up. Especially when mentioning the CROWEN? Cannibals that wear bird like masks. The Borderlands. Imagine yourself living a sheltered life and thrust into the "unknown". Hey, you'd probably be a little bit of a brat yourself!
Aria wasn't my favorite character. I felt something more for Perry & Roar and wish their was more elaboration on their backstory more. I'm excited to find out for book two since it ended so unfairly. It's one of those reads that you either love it or hate it. Don't you just HATE those? It's a personal opinion one. I think I was more drawn to the whole "forbidden love" or love that you know it will end part. I get so sick lately of the 2 guys fighting over a girl's affection (TEAM JACOB!! WOOT!11) or the edward & bella fantasy. Sometimes relationships DONT last, and maybe I'd like to see more of that in books. Reality sucks I guess that's why we turn to books but it also taught me that loving in the moment is not wrong either. And that even when its over, hey well it hurts but atleast you loved right?
Or atleast that what it WANTS you to think...heheh. The love story atleast doesn't make me barf. Point being its a personal opinion. Love it or hate it. I definately enjoyed this one!
Somewhat confused on how I felt about this book and was disapointed. Easy read though. I'm BACK friends on GR!! somewhat....still going t2.5 stars....

This is where Fitzpatrick failed me and Taylor succeeded. <3
So I gave it 5 stars because of that. Just go get it. Now.

I wanted to give this 2 stars because I rated Cresendo 1.5 stars also and this was atleast slightly better then that disaster but my rating system is off. I want to quickly say that this first book is MUCH better then that one. However, I still trash canned this book. Infact there was a lot that I found wrong with it that it gives me a headache just to write it all out. So I decided to have a little fun with my review. Pretty much my version of the story short and my reactions.
The Short Version
Nora: Eww Vee I HATE my lab partner he is like so pyscho. I swear he's stalking me. Vee: But he's SOOO HOT! look at his abs. YUM. Nora: I think I'll ask the teacher to move me but I know he won't. Because he believes in sexual harrasment and torturing young girls. Vee: Ya your right. Well you could just sleep with him just saying. Nora: Whine Whine Whine Patch: I'm a jerk. I'm super hot. Every girl loves me even though I'm a jackass. What more could you want? I talk down to you and flirt with you at the same time to mess with your head. Your so fun to pick on. Hey want to go out? Me: Dear Patch.... Nora: Sure only because I'm a dimwit. Marcie: I'm a s-l-u-t. A biotch with no feelings. Typical anorexic cheerleader stereotype yupyup.
Later on..... Patch: I want to kill you Nora, but I never take up all the opportunities I have. Instead I'll just make out with you because its fun and I'm a sick bastard. Nora: *drools*...no wait I hate you but your eyes are pretty. But lusting for you means I'm SO in love. *swoons* I can't stay away even when your pyscho. Me: Patch: I seem to have that effect on people *flexes like a big girly man* Vee: Ugh I think you should go out with Elliot and Jules. They are like so much hotter. Nora: Don't go anywhere near them!! Vee: What I can't hear you? Oh I'm in the car with them heading to a party in the city, we're drunk just picked up some tequila at the liquor store and my cat is sitting on the dashboard. I'm SUCH a good role model and friend, seriously girl you need to start listening to me you dumb girl. BYE!! [click] Nora's mom: Don't go out. Don't do anything. Infact let me be the overbearing protective mother stereotype I'm suppose to be. Nora: I'm going to do something really stupid and chase after her. I always get myself in these messes and I always do something stupid without thinking about it first. It's just who I am. Patch: I'm coming with you. Don't worry I'm badass nobody can touch THIS fallen angel. Me:
Later at the school..... Vee: OMG Nora you are missing out. I'm totally with these two guys that are awesome. We are playing "hangman" and I get to put this loop around my neck and swing from a tree sounds like fun right? Nora: *grows a brain* Wow...I think that sounds messed up. I'm coming in there for you! I know who the killer is. Patch: I'll just go in by myself and leave you unguarded. Because I know your going to listen and stay in the car because thats what anyone would do when their friend is in trouble. Jules: MUHAHAHAHAHA!! I'm such an evil mastermind. Even though I hide everytime patch is around so it's like SO obvious what I'm up too. Nora: Oh No!! He was faking and called me weak minded! He said I was easy to be mind-tricked and I have no spine. [crys] Me: Jules +1 Brownie Point Nora: *Gets trapped inside gym* Help me Patch! I can't handle this on my own. Patch: I'm here to save the day. Nora: *falls and dies* Patch: Noooooo! Well there's my human sacrifice. However I'm just going to not accept it because I can't live without her. Who else would I stalk for six months? Me:
Okay so that was a really lame imitation of the book. For those of you who read Becca Fitzpatrick's "Be Nice" post which I DID, I just want to say Becca I have nothing against you as a person, I do believe we have a right of freedom of speech. While the saying "If you have nothing nice to say don't say it at all" implies to a lot of cases, you have to take negative reviews with a grain of salt. I don't believe in limiting myself to what I say, and while I might poke fun at certain books there is usually reasons behind them. In fact if I was ever able to get a book published in the future, I would expect there to be scathing reviews. I think it would help get a wider view on WHY they didn't like this book, and where I could improve on in the future.
Hush Hush really wasn't as bad as some other books I have read and while I originally gave it 2 stars. I decided to mark it down .5 because I've given books 2 stars that were way better. My rating system is a bit...off. It wasn't unbearable, I could read through this which gives me some hope because that is one thing I can't stand is when the writing is completely boring. I even enjoyed Patch's quirky behavior somewhat in the beginning, I can handle a jerk but lately its been boys who go into the term "pyschotically bad" that I don't like. What I want to say is I think Becca has potential as an author, but I wasn't a fan of the Hush Hush series simply not simple because I'm biased and I'm getting a little sick of these fallen angel love stores [ Seriously I say this in ever review, Fallen angels are the NEW vampire. First its Werewolves, then faeries, then vamps now this! ] but that it just became what they all do, predictable.
I wanted my brain to think. Not guess the motivation behind the fallen angel. Not to know where this book ends. It's a big task to do. Still I find some pleasure from some predictable books but this one I did not. So to you becca, while I agree that there are some reviews that could scald even a dragon's hide and it might take it more then a little TOO far sometimes, most of them have the basis of why they say such things.
I think that this book will appeal to a much younger crowd and therefore I'm an old granny goat and just don't get it. I don't like Patch. I don't like Nora. Infact I'm not drawn to any of the characters which leaves nothing to me. If I can't connect or feel attached without wanting to choke somebody, then obviously the storyline becomes dust to me. Sorry but I just couldn't get into it.

3.5 stars SPOILERS YOU WERE WARNED I keep hearing others say Matched was more enjoyable for them. This is one of those books that differ on your tastes. In Matched, it was about Cassia and her self exploration of words & who she was in love with. This series repeats a lot of poetry that can drive you crazy but most people don't realize is that words can be a powerful thing. Even though I do think it gets repeated way too often can get obnoxious. I believe thats why the society banned them. In this one, you actually get to explore how cruel the society is. Gotta love those evil governments right?
This one wasn't anything spectacular but I still enjoyed it. Indie was a nice edition to the group even though Cassia kept confusing me with whether she was good or bad. One minute she was saying how glad she was that Indie was there and the next she didn't trust her. Make up your mind already. Traveling is hard to put into a story without making the reader become tired & bored of it. It takes skill to not put somebody to sleep. Eragon is a good example of this even though I enjoyed the series some of the traveling was too detailed & intense for me. It really did make you feel like you were traveling through the canyons, learning about the farmers, Anomalies, Aberrations, the rising, and running from the society. I'm a sucker for "on the run" type books however they always make you feel anxious like a big boogeyman is right around the corner.
Hunter was also a nice character and I hope he's in the third one. When he crushes the blue tubes where they store the tissue samples. Ky with his lying made me angry I didn't see why he didn't trust Cassia and give her a choice to choose in the first place. That made my feelings lessen for him even though he figured out it was wrong in the end. Xander's secret led me to believe that there is much more to him in the end and I definately like him much more now. Sorry Xander fans, but I'm sure he's going to end up with Indie. Who knows, the rising might be just as bad as the society like what happened in Hunger Games. I wish I could say more, but it was a decent read. I knew the next color would be red, since it seems to go in order. Maybe it deals with forgetfulness. Who knew the blue pill was poison? I knew one of them had to be, we just all thought it was red because that's "Evil" color. Tricky. Guess I have to wait and find out.
What can I say? I know its not perfect and there are countless things I can get into where this book could have improved but I simply just lik4 stars
What can I say? I know its not perfect and there are countless things I can get into where this book could have improved but I simply just liked it. It reminded me of Across the Universe, although not nearly as good. The problem I had with it was I didn't feel connected or attached to the characters in anyway like I did with Universe. I'm also rating it based on the fact that I'm not into all-space books but lately it's like a tidal wave came in of sci-fi writers that simply just blow your mind. When did I transfer from paranormal to Sci fi lover? The world is ending people....
I didn't have to stop to read it like many books I've currently been reading *cough*mara dryer*cough* simply due to lack of creativity or it just being a snoozefest. I really loved the character Seth for the first 1/2 portion of the book then he just got really obnoxious & selfish, Waverly was also a nice breath of air from the ditzy girls your seeing in top selling books right now ex: Nora Grey, Lucinda price, bella swan....come on you know who I'm talking about. I've constantly been hearing about how everybody think's the ship sounded claustropobic I think due to the fact that the author does not describe the ship as well as ATU. Let me just say that I LOVE this, it gives a sinister feel to this book.
Which it IS a sinister book. Ok well it might not be zombies & all that jazz, but I have to say I expected aliens, a plague, large rodent mutations, but mutiny was mostly what this book contained. You would think if people went out of their way to fly to another planet that they would work together instead of going against one another. But this just goes to show you that human beings are power hungry grubby little monsters that basic instant is to be the alpha and survive. (view spoiler)[The adults all pass away & half of them are trapped on the New Horizon when they take away prisoners. Imagine being a teenager and being in charge of the survival of the human race big enough responsibility? (hide spoiler)]
The villain of the story is Anne Mathers. Man does she creep me the heck out. There is the whole (view spoiler)[stealing the girls eggs and implanting them into old grannys? (hide spoiler)] just made me feel like violated and creeped me out. There is nothing scarier then a preachy grandmother that molests you.
The ending I have to say I was kinda disapointed. Waverly went overboard and it made me mad that she acted immature after they finally got to be together. I would have prefered Seth but he ruined it by being immature and power hungry. Bad ending but overall I enjoyed it.
Horrible. I know I read up to I think book three of this series, the world was fantastic. It had so much potential and it just flopped with two reallyHorrible. I would have gave it a one but it was so much better then Cresendo. Boring but still bearable. There is a book 4 as well coming out? I'm pretty much with the people saying WHYYYYYY?
Her turning Nephilim didn't shock me in the least bit. I thought she was going to turn into one in book two but they broke up. Nora is still the same except she gets her memory erased. So she has a chance to redeem herself but nope she'd rather be the airhead braindead twit she was in Cresendo. REALLY nora?
Scott came back which I'm glad. You see a more playful side to him and I still don't know why he even cares about her when she put him through so much bullshit. Hank Millar got more snarky and evil towards the end and gasp I actually liked Marcie. I didn't really expect that to happen. Truth be told, she tells it how it is and she hates Nora for her dumbness about as much as I do.
Nora: Cry. Whine Whine Whine. Does something stupid. Why poor ole me? Everyone is so unfair. Pouts. Color black turns me on. I'm not shallow but I only like guys for their sexy figures. Marcie is mean. Im being mind tricked! but I won't do anything about it think I'll just sit here. Yea good idea. I'll just complain because that will solve everything.
Nora's Mom: Don't forget to eat your vegetables and do your homework. I'll freak out everytime you leave, did I mention I'm dating your dad? Oh thats right I never told you he was. I just kept you in the dark. I'm as clueless as you dear. I think I'll control your life and who you date from now on.
Vee: Sex Sex s e x. Omg Cheetos and sex! I miss old Nora who was shallow as me. I'm going to lie to her like everybody else and claim to stay away from boys because i always date ones that try and kill her but we know thats not going to happen hah! I'll end up screwing up something in your life but im SUCH a good friend!
Patch: I'll protect you from your evil daddy. I'll wipe your memory clean cause thats going to protect you like that edward cullen did leaving you in the forest with vampires. This is just like that. Oh and of course I'll leave out Marcie too, even though we just kissed we cant have you knowing about that. Don't worry when you get your memory back I'll just lie and say Oh what that thing? Psshh old news. I won't tell you about our breakup. We were always happy in love and everybody else doesnt matter. Look at my sexy abs and muscles, isnt that enough for you baby? Yea...Yea I know it is. Smirk Smirkity Smirk.
Hank Millar: Im so badass nobody can kill me. I have an army and my daughter sucks but oh no i might get killed now. So I gotta have her run my army. Think I'll turn her Nephilim because that totally makes sense in my plans. I really pretend I sacrificed a lot for her at the end even though I got her into a car accident and try to kill her mom. Ya I'm not so bad.
That's pretty much all the characters I despised said. Hank Millar I can't lie actually made the book bearable. Can I say that? I guess I just did. Truth be told there have been worse villans. I still don't like the whole mythology its got more plotholes than cheese it isn't even funny makes no sense whatsoever.
I also didn't care much for the army of Nephilim versus Fallen Angels which is basically the whole plotline for this book. That says enough as it is right? It was more interesting then the romance between Nora & Patch however I don't even want to get into it because I'm pretty sure I'll pop a blood vessel. Patch lies. Nora doesn't ask enough questions. We still don't know that much about him. However I did like the end of the book (black with white ink nice touch) where we got to see his version of how they met. Interesting. I wish the book could be half in his view like that and half Nora's I think it would appeal to people more. It's like for me Shiver was awful but I did appreciate the colored text. Expensive but nice.
I gave this book 2 stars because even though I knew it was going to be a hot mess, I could still read through it. It's like watching a trainwreck, you know its going to happen and you know its going to be awful but you just can't pull your eyes away. It still has enough action to pull you through the end of the book. But that doesn't mean I'm a fan of the series. I'll read the fourth one when it comes out simply just to hear the ending. Let's hope its not another Cresendo. I'm sure Nora will be as annoying as ever.
Why the .5 you say? Honestly cause atleast it was better then The Fallen Omnibus. That was like nails on a chalkboard. Th**spoiler alert** 1.5 Stars
Why the .5 you say? Honestly cause atleast it was better then The Fallen Omnibus. That was like nails on a chalkboard. This was like going to dentist to get my wisdom teeth pulled. Hurt like a bitch but was necessary. Why? Because I always finish a series no matter what, or atleast attempt it. This book however reminds me of Shift which not only dissapointed me but irritated me too. I'll explain why.
Let me say that Hush Hush wasn't AS BAD as I thought it was going to be. But it wasn't great. Still Nora Grey in that book compared to this one are hugely different. If you thought she was dumb, annoying, just overall a complete fool well then this sequel will prove you right. Not only does Nora complain constantly but she takes it out on Patch and her friends. Her constant drama with her doing one thing and then regretting it five seconds later gets old. Fast. I'm seeing this pattern over and over again and its like she never learns her lesson from the first time.
Come on Nora its not to hard to figure out if you put your finger on the stove, your gonna get burned. Not only is half of this unbelievable but don't let me get started on Patch. In the first book he was a jerk but somewhat reedemable, but in this one he just came off as a complete utter douche. It never really states what really happened between him and marcie except that really he just didn't stop marcie from kissing him. I know he said he got reassigned to her I get it but really acting like your dating with the girl your supposedly madly-in-love-with isn't like going to make her swoon. Of course this doesn't stop Nora from obsessing. What honestly made me mad was the stupid key ironically. I mean when you were with Nora she couldn't have any of your belongings but you get with skank bitch to "protect" her and she can have anything? This is about how mad I got with Shift with Zachary. Read my review cause I won't even go there.
This also gets to the most crucial point of why this book reaks of potholes and nincapoop. Guardian Angels can supposedly lust and have sex with humans but not somebody they love. Cause heaven forbid you should love? But sex? Sure that's totally okay. Why your at it go pick out the sleeziest woman you can find. Honestly I can't tell the difference between Fallen and Non-fallen angels they pretty much blur into one mesh pot. Seriously Patch would have been better off just staying how he was in Hush but again Nora screwed it up.
I mean have you obsessed over your first love? Sure. I probably was a crazy bitch to be honest. But I don't want to read about stuff like that, I had enough drama in my high school days. What's sad, is Vee is so desentizied to her friends feelings. I use to find the quirky humor somewhat entertaining now I just find her completely stupid and annoying. Really Vee? And how is it that you always end up dating the murderer? Who's got the worst taste in guys Nora or you?
If that isn't worth shes sisters with Marcie. The only character I liked in this book was Scott but even he got ruined. Don't get me wrong guy is pretty much as pyscho at Patch is, but he had somewhat depth. Then Nora fucked it up again. She called the police ruined his future, had him shot, steals from him, gets his hopes up over an audition, lies to him and in the end? He sends her a car and tells her not to worry and he's SORRY. Seriously? I almost hoped in the amusement park he would shank her. End of story.
But no. It had to be Rixon. Which I knew from the beginning because of all the BS he was feeding her. Nora is so much a pushover its not even funny, I actually find it kind of sad. Like what role model are you setting for teens? If I don't have a guy I'm going to die? I'll just go to a dangerous bar so that I can get his attention? She is WORSE then a Bella Swan. Like Double. Maybe even worse then Lucinda Price. I can heap those three in a bunch.
Most people compare this to the immortal series but I could handle Ever. Atleast in the end she learned her lesson but Bella, Nora, or Lucinda well its like these girls just DONT learn their lesson. It's like watching a dog run into a glass door over and over again not getting its closed. Really?
All I can say is the mythology and drama in this book are suffocating. Scott was the only reason I gave it a .5. I liked patch in the beginning but now I just want to slap him and Nora. I want to slap her mom too. Add Marcie in there and we got a party. Seriously going to take some nyquil and pass out for the next hour. Brain aches.
However I'll still be reading Silence just to get a feel for how this series end. I mean could it get worse? I hope I'm not eating my own words at the end.
EDIT: Also I'd like to add in that Nora also outs Rixon as the killer when she figures it out. Its like bitch don't you know your in an underground tunnel with your dad's killer? So let's confront him now so that he can kill you sooner. Use your brains and try to figure a plan to escape. It's not that hard. Seriously brain dead I tell you.
