This is where Fitzpatrick failed me and Taylor succeeded. <3
So I gave it 5 stars because of that. Just go get it. Now.

Yeah. That was pretty much my reaction at the end.
Words can't really even express how greatful I am that I actually went in and picked this up even though it felt awkward asking at the counter for a children's book. Was it just me or did it feel like it was geared towards adults too? Maybe because in the end we could all learn a lesson.
It was cute, creative, inspirational. I'm sure nothing I say is going to top some of the reviews, infact check out some of the reviews that touched me under who recommended it to me some friend reviews that I found really wonderful. The pictures I could gush about for days on end, they are stunning. It's like when you find an old vase thats a hundred years old but gorgeous. Who knew simple could be so dashing? The story itself is also powerful. Now I know most of you are going to say "I don't like sad stories" or "I heard it will make you cry". If anything this has in a wierd way a inspirational ending.
If your afraid to read this, please don't. I waited for awhile, and I'm glad I got the chance to read it. If you ever lost someone this will definately touch you. I lost my brother-in-law who was like my brother when I was 17 years old. Infact the night he got into his motorcycle accident, I was suppose to have lunch with him and my dad. My dad offered him to take his truck cause he thought it was going to rain and he refused. I refused to go over something petty vouching to stay at home watching a movie (passion of the christ ironically), because they were moving away and I was sad my sister was moving an hour away. When my dad got home though I told him to tell my brother that we'd all have dinner next week. I never saw him again. I didn't find out till 4 hours later.
He was working and couldn't make it to my nephew's 2nd birthday yesterday and was bringing home a gift for him. My nephew will never know his dad now and I suppose I always felt kinda guilty about throwing such a hissy fit about my sister moving on with her life. I was stupid.
ANYHOW, back to the point, I LOVED a monster's calls stories even though some of them I think we're kinda morbid and I think had a twisted logic. It told another truth as well. People are not always black and white. There is a grey area, whats so hard. You have to accept that you are a good person and you can be selfish too. It's okay to embrace the loneliness, grief, or whatever you are going through. To TELL the truth even if you don't want to admit it to yourself. I'm sure there is a lot that we don't want to admit to themselves.
The hardest person to tell the truth to is yourself. You can be your own worse enemy and critic. I love how it reminds me of Scrooge's three tales, I use to love that christmas story and this is a nice little twist. It's a book I'm sure is going to withstand time and become a classic. I even added this to my favorites shelf which is hard for me to do period. Even if you haven't lost someone, read this book. It really is a powerful simple tale. I'll be giving it to my sister when I go see her on thanksgiving, she reads like me and I think she will really appreciate this one.
5 Stars!! Alright so I just finished the book yesterday so I wanted to spit out my review while it was still fresh. I'm not going to lie I passed this5 Stars!! Alright so I just finished the book yesterday so I wanted to spit out my review while it was still fresh. I'm not going to lie I passed this book up many times because its cover, it never really was anything exciting looking but then you never judge a book on its cover right? So jokes on me. When I first started reading it, I did notice a lot of plotholes in the book. I know people say this is an original idea but its kind of like the movie Avatar even though the story has been done so many times, it has its own unique twist to it but Avatar was still a popular movie. I can't lie, I thoroughly enjoyed it especially when I got to the midway point.
First, the characters. I actually found some things came as a shock to me in Hunger games and if you can judge from my previous reviews that is VERY rare for me. I can usually guess the outcome of what characters are going to do. Now, if you read my status updates you'll see what I mean about Peeta. First I liked him alot, then I hated him, then I liked him again, and now I'm conflicted. WTH? I know people are probably doing the Team Peeta/Team Gale thing even though I didn't find much romance in this book. I mean (view spoiler)[Peeta & Katniss seemed liked they were putting on a show. I know Peeta supposedly loved her but he NEVER told her he meant it for real, Haymitch never really spelt it out to her. You can read her questioning peeta's real motives. (hide spoiler)]. That part really screwed with my mind having me say WHAT? HUH? It felt like it was mind games instead of any romance. All I can hope for is theres more of a love story for Katniss in book #2 simply to add a new element. The character of Rue was also one of my favorites dont know why but she just unique to me. I found the actual games my favorite part of this story.
The hilarious part is I love both Gale & Peeta equally and usually I just go for the the underdog. But both characters I find are unique and somewhat likable. Hunger games is a fun adventure and you'll definately be unable to put the book down when the battle begins. It's kinda twisted and reminds me of gladiator in the fact with its brutality. I can't wait to get my hands on the second book and found out what happens after the games and where the story can possibly go after this seeing as how the game is actually over. I really do hope there is more actual romance and less confusion on that part with the lying deal it drove me nuts. That's my only complaint. No fakeness but the REAL deal, and hopefully Katniss despite the capitols control will be able to show her TRUE colors soon. But otherwise, I really loved this book and if you have passed it up you shouldn't go read it today.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>...more
