I really enjoyed Firelight and Jacinda going to high school like a regular teenager. The coming out of Draki life. However this book focused more on the bad aspects of living life in the draki pride. In the first one she complains about how much she wants to go back and in the second one complains of how she hates it so much.
When Jacinda arrives back at the pride, she's no longer the priced glory. She is treated pretty much like scum. Not only that but her twin Tamra manifests into a shader and becomes the most prized draki. Let me just tell you Tamra is my least favorite character in this entire series. If I didn't despise her whining and complaining enough in the first book with her pestering Jacinda, even though the sudden spurt of popularity and Cassian's attention (another reason I say FU to the twin) she still seems so much like a bitch. I can't help it. She's the only part of the story that I wish I could remove, personally.
Everyone claims that Cassian is in SO MUCH of this book however most of it is going back and forth between her and the sister. Creating this image that he's only in it for the pride, preserving the race, and a shallow vapid individual. I would have loved to see more detail into Cassian's love for Jucinda besides one measly little kiss. It really didn't count. And then she had to worry about her sister's feelings. The one that yells at her when she catches Cassian over at her house.
Ugh, again Tamra. Anyways, Cassian did redeem himself somewhat when he told Tamra that he cared about Jacinda saying your not her meaning he liked her for herself. I would have loved to see more scenes with them or intricate actual, interest? However it wasn't even really a love triangle. Again all she could think about was Will. I can't say I hate Will but in order for there to be a great love triangle you gotta have SOME kind of competition right? Sigh....
But of course it can never be that complicated. I do like how they made Cassian & Jacinda bond. I was hoping maybe it would confuse her feelings more for Will and cause some turmoil but of course it affects Cassian and leaves her immune. Her mind thinking Will, will, will, every five seconds like a ticking timebomb got kinda old after awhile.
Truth be told, I think Jacinda has OUTGROWN the pride. It's vicious barbaric ways and the fact there is not the freedom to choose her future. Tamra will end up with Cassian because obviously she was dumb enough to accept a man who ignored her all her life until she manifested (seriously who would WANT that? I'd be like now I'm hot..and your not. Bye.) Even though that's my guess, I really couldn't put the book down. Simply because of the pride life and how cruel Severin was. I felt for Cassian at the end too, and wouldn't it be shocking if she actually choose Cassian for herself? I felt like she never even gave it a chance because of her stupid selfish brat sister.
Again, I love Will. I'm just saying, her sister seems to be the biggest brat I've ever seen. Jacinda is very confused in this book. Leaving the pride a total of three times and each time coming back you see the cruelty of the pride. However I enjoyed reading about draki life in the pride that was the biggest aspect of this book. A great read and definately can't wait for the next one. I would have gave it a four, if it weren't for not enough Cassian & Jacinda and less of her annoying sister. That is all.

It almost had like a moral tale to the whole storyline and how humanity is more then just preserving your life but actually living it the way you want too and that we can survive on hope. That sometimes truth can hurt but its better to know then to be just ignorant. It touched me on an intellectual level that most books can't get out of me anymore with their whos dating who drama.
I wish they could have dealt more with character development with Elder. Amys past was pretty much brought up alot and her story but Elder's didn't really go into more detail which is a shame because even so I really did like him. Harley was my favorite however, I LOVED harley's character. His sorrow and his quirky personality. Even when he (view spoiler)[commited suicide in the end. I kinda felt it fit well with the story, that he could be with kayleigh again that way (hide spoiler)]. I REALLY loved the world no matter how morbid and twisted it was. This is definately going on one of my FAVORITE books however the only reason why I gave it a 4 was because it didn't go more into detail about the past as much as I hoped. I really wish this were a series! If anyone knows if she's going to come out with another book like this let me know. It says #1 so I'm hoping?
Normally I'm not a sci-fi type of gal, but this REALLY intrigued me. Great Job. Especially the ending. The only thing that I also was waiting for was more romantic scenes in this book but overall it was pretty good. I couldn't put the book down so obviously it grabbed my attention WITHOUT the over-dramatic love triangles or obsessive mysterious going on in books you read now (shift, house of night, twilight, etc.) I loved that she kept it simple but not boring. I really hope if you read this you'll decide to make this book a series...and a book where they wake up on centauri-earth. The main story was that hope was there for something and as long as they had that, they would live and not just survive and that there is a difference between the two.
Here's my hope for book number two....=) I'll be waiting for that one for sure. Great Job Beth Revis.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>...more
5 Stars!! Alright so I just finished the book yesterday so I wanted to spit out my review while it was still fresh. I'm not going to lie I passed this5 Stars!! Alright so I just finished the book yesterday so I wanted to spit out my review while it was still fresh. I'm not going to lie I passed this book up many times because its cover, it never really was anything exciting looking but then you never judge a book on its cover right? So jokes on me. When I first started reading it, I did notice a lot of plotholes in the book. I know people say this is an original idea but its kind of like the movie Avatar even though the story has been done so many times, it has its own unique twist to it but Avatar was still a popular movie. I can't lie, I thoroughly enjoyed it especially when I got to the midway point.
First, the characters. I actually found some things came as a shock to me in Hunger games and if you can judge from my previous reviews that is VERY rare for me. I can usually guess the outcome of what characters are going to do. Now, if you read my status updates you'll see what I mean about Peeta. First I liked him alot, then I hated him, then I liked him again, and now I'm conflicted. WTH? I know people are probably doing the Team Peeta/Team Gale thing even though I didn't find much romance in this book. I mean (view spoiler)[Peeta & Katniss seemed liked they were putting on a show. I know Peeta supposedly loved her but he NEVER told her he meant it for real, Haymitch never really spelt it out to her. You can read her questioning peeta's real motives. (hide spoiler)]. That part really screwed with my mind having me say WHAT? HUH? It felt like it was mind games instead of any romance. All I can hope for is theres more of a love story for Katniss in book #2 simply to add a new element. The character of Rue was also one of my favorites dont know why but she just unique to me. I found the actual games my favorite part of this story.
The hilarious part is I love both Gale & Peeta equally and usually I just go for the the underdog. But both characters I find are unique and somewhat likable. Hunger games is a fun adventure and you'll definately be unable to put the book down when the battle begins. It's kinda twisted and reminds me of gladiator in the fact with its brutality. I can't wait to get my hands on the second book and found out what happens after the games and where the story can possibly go after this seeing as how the game is actually over. I really do hope there is more actual romance and less confusion on that part with the lying deal it drove me nuts. That's my only complaint. No fakeness but the REAL deal, and hopefully Katniss despite the capitols control will be able to show her TRUE colors soon. But otherwise, I really loved this book and if you have passed it up you shouldn't go read it today.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>...more

So there was more kissing going on in this book then the first one even though a lot of it was fake. Gale actually steps up to the plate. I'm constantly torn between Peeta/Gale on an emotional roller coaster ride where I feel like I'm never going to get off with Katniss constant questions and indecisiveness about the whole "No marry or kids" deal. Gale won me over when he got whipped and she finally recognized his affections and actually kissed him back, geez its about time!? Making a decision supposedly. Just when I'm about to dawn my "GALE PWNS1!" T-Shirt, Peeta does a sneak attack. It's not that I hated Peeta ever, but I never thought I'd like him. Up until this book sad to say, when he said "one day you'll be a good mother" and gave her that locket. AWWW...curse you evil good-doing peeta. I shall never forgive you. My mind kept going to Team Gale then to Team Peeta until I felt like my brains got fried then left luke-warm in the microwave. It's true they are too likable that either one will do, although I sadly admit so far Peeta has sacrificed more for Katniss. The whole time I'm feeling my heart split down the middle and I'm thinking WHY cant the girl have them both!!?? Why choose? Enough said. More love to go around.
New characters are added to this book. Some I'm eh about and some I could gobble up like chocolate pudding. Finnick, Finnick....Finnick. Did I mention Finnick? For some reason I really like this overly cheesy merman that likes sugar cubes and shellfish. I really hope they keep him in the series for my amusement. President Snow is not new character however you get more personal interactions from him. He is evil and deliciously good at doing so which is why I adore him. A very good villain even though Katniss described him smelling of blood on his lips make you think of true blood? Hello, He's no eric northman. Johanna also was a nice addition. I like her spunk but she didn't get much in the plotline as much as I would have hoped.
The Quell wow okay I didn't see that one coming. WRONG. Even though it was predictable that Kat goes back into the arena again (I mean hello it is called the hunger GAMES series right?) because what else would you write your second book about? People getting whipped and being covered in tuliups and daisies? Uhh..no. Somehow I knew Peeta & Kat were going to go back to the arena again because how else was Snow going to get rid of them? He had to do it in a way that was convient and looked like "bad luck" perfect timing aye? Besides, the reaping was what made the first book SO succesful. Why not create it again?
Then there is the issue of the revolutions going on. He thinks if he can kill them off that it will solve all his problems, I get this. What I want to ask people is this. Did any of you when Kat & Peeta were trying to save each other's lives think why didn't Haymitch take Peeta's spot, and kat's mother volunteer for her? I feel like Kat does ALL this sacrificing worrying about her whole family but its like the family doesn't do anything back. Mag volunteered for Annie because she was 80 and older. I just know that if I were a mother and my daughter got a death sentence and I WAS allowed to go instead, I'd rather it be me then her measly 17 years of life. Anyone tell me why this isnt a valid point?
Regardless of this all, I really enjoyed the Quell, the whole book. I know it was most peoples least favorite supposedly but I honestly couldn't put it down. It was nice to have the arena back even if it wasn't as much as a bloodbath as the first one. I hope in the third book however there aren't so many lies (I'm pregnant! Im married! I'm in love with XYZ! I had sex with prims goat! Ok maybe not that one..) and Kat can be more of the rebel leader and herself as she wants to be now that shes free of the capitols grasp. I can't wait to read Mockingjay for the ending was AWESOME. Simply because it was a cliffhanger and I was left there with my mouth open like "UH, WHAT?" Suzanne Collins you did not just do that!
Regardless it might have had negative points in my review, but overall it was a good book and I did enjoy it. I cant wait to read Mockingjay even though I've heard bad & good on it. Hopefully I can overcome my confusion on Peeta vs. Gale.
P.S. Peeta better not die or I will kill you write you a mean letter. Seriously, though I doubt they would kill him off. Hes too good.
