Sometimes you´re speeding through it, missing the signs and by the time you reach the end of it you have thoughts, recollections, and moments where you realize you haven´t really lived.
And that´s the thing about life. It goes way too fast. At least mine did..."
I waited so long to read this book and I have to admit that it was worth every minute of waiting. When I saw the cover first time, I thought it would be just another romantic happy ending. Boy, I was wrong...
Imagine modern Romeo and Juliet. Imagine what would happen if Romeo and Juliet were set in 1950s in America. Than put Juliet in Psych ward and see what will happen...
I can´t summarize the amazing experience I have had while reading this book. This series is one of my all-time favorites!
This time I don´t won´t to write long review with many reasons why you should read this book/series. Please my friends, trust me on this one and just read it.
RECIPE: 1 cup of Stockholm Syndrome 1 innocent girl who was sexually abused as a child 1 sadistic truck driver/priest with troubled past 1 overly protective psiho/schizophrenic mother 1 truck and miles and miles of dirty road 1 dream of Niagara Falls Add the cruel reality and few cups of bad and selfish people. Blend it all together and read it for about 3-4 hours and you´ll get this awesomeness.
Wanderlust is the dark, frightening story of a naive young woman, kidnapped and held against her will by damaged man who seeks revenge to society. This is a story of survival. It describes two people that have managed to survive injustice and sexual abuse and they still maintained their humanity and a will to escape their circumstances. They are both fighters and they still have a capacity for feeling and emotion, perhaps even love. They still have hope in a better tomorrow.
This book scared me. It´s threatening, challenging and controversial. I loved Wanderlust because there was something so hauntingly beautiful about this book that captured my attention from the first chapter. I especially liked quotes in the beginning of each chapter from Evie´s book about Niagara Falls.
Ms Skye Warren deserves an applause, so I clap for her!
This definitely will not be the last book I will read of Skye Warren.
Warning: This book is not for the faint-hearted readers. If you are not 18 or above or if you simply cannot take tear-jerking books, do not read it.(less)

This is truly an EPIC love and war story with unique characters that are tragic, sad, scary, annoying but most of all lovable. Some parts had me crying and some had me mad. Even though Alexander´s and Tatiana´s story might be great, it´s few hundred pages too long for my taste.

You know it will make you sad and leave you heartbroken, but you can´t stop even if it hurts. We, masochistic readers, we know it, we understand it... and still, we do it. All we can do is suffer the pain, and tell ourselves it was well worth it. Sad things can be beautiful. That´s exactly what Autumn said and noone understood her. Well, Autumn and Ms Nowlin, we understand you and we appreciate the pain. It was well worth it...
Well, there was one weird girl...
...and she fell in love with her best friend but she didn't notice him like that.
...And than there was one big misunderstanding and they grew apart. They grew apart for four long years even though they saw each other on a daily basis.
“I've loved him my whole life, and somewhere along the way, that love didn't change but grew. It grew to fill the parts of me that I did not have when I was a child. It grew with every new longing of my body and desire until there was not a piece of me that did not love him. And when I look at him, there is no other feeling in me.”
...And just when life finally brought them together, this star-crossed lovers were separated by cruel fate.
I can see some of the roses still blooming in my mother´s garden. Brown on the edges and bright in other colors, their petals drooping downward, dying just as their lives have begun. They stayed past their time, and I´ve realized that I have too.
Do you want to know how they were separated? Just read this book! I promise you, you won't regret it! (less)

"Crazy people lighting cars on fire, all the cars, until whole streets seem to be lined with signal fires. Fires to light the path. The sick putting out their dead. Mass graves. People killing other people with guns and knives. Looting. Beatings. People jumping from tenth-floor windows. Then, the empty city. Day. Night. Empty."
After the "dying", most of the world is wiped out. There are only few survivors (they think so), and they are living in military base. And then comes beautiful Eva...
Eva. She's not the first woman. She is The Last (well, they thing she is). She ate an apple and it brought her lots of trouble. Not with God, but with all mighty Major Smith and his 17 men. All mighty Major decided to give her her first husband for next six months and all the rest will have the pleasure to watch their sexual activites. Her partner's name was't Adam. He was John, Avery, Jason, James, Jake... She was very wicked and wise woman and she had a plan... This selfless women with a heart of gold will bring the peace in this little society with sex. Loads and loads of sex. I know how this sounds. Like a first class porn. But belive me, it's not. She has a high purpuse and it works psychologically by using the sexual therapy. At the end, which is not happy at all, she finds love, happiness and forgiveness in this harsh new world.
23 years after Eva we will meet Eva's children, Cain and Abel Gareth and Nadia.
This second part of book, two decades after the "dying" from deadly virus, the rest of the survived world is fallen apart.
"It's like societies just menage to check the brutality of human nature, but as soon as there's a tear in the fabric, fear, hate, horrible violence come spilling out"
Nix is a second heroine we meet in this book. She is a fighter in the man's world. With only few survivors where men outnumber women ten-to-one, where woman is property and is nothing better than a object which gives a birth, she is trying to save as many females from this harsh world as possible. After all abusing and killing in her life, she doesn't belive in love, and then she meets Gareth, bad boy with golden heart in this cruel world . They are finding the road from victim to freedom and hope of healing from sexual abuse (she as a victim, and he as a abuser), and at the end, they found all this in love.
This futuristic horror is like nothing i've ever read! Its dark and disturbing, sad and hot as hell, horrible and beautiful. It shows us fear of worst kind and monsters, but it shows us and the other side- humanity, sacrifice and kindness. There is no happily ever after in this book and don't expect it. Overall, great writing, a wonderful plot, hot scenes, deep and twisty character psychology. I highly recommend it to everyone! This book is one that will stay with you forever.(less)

This book just blew me away!
This book has stolen my attention right from its very first line. It´s stunning, scary, unpredictable and beautiful. This book is a definite MUST HAVE!
An older man and a teenage girl. Bittersweet romance. Your first thought must be Lolita? High school teacher and troubled student. Sounds like a recipe for disaster or at least some jail time. But, although situations like this would ordinarily cause me to cringe because I´m a school teacher, I actually felt... hope for these two tragically broken people... This is a taboo romance story with student-teacher relationship in which there are no stereotypical predators or victims. These people are damaged, but are they monsters in this book? No, they just made some bad decisions and this sure is their complicated love story. Monsters are some other characters who ruined their lives in the start.
The story is told in Jenna's voice as she "confesses" the truth of an incident into a policeman's tape recorder. Her family is dysfunctional (Psycho dad/cheater, alchocolic mother, grandfather- pedophile, a brother away at war...) and she finds escape in delusions and pain (selfharm). She is a cutter and she spend some time in Psycho ward. Then she moves to a new school and meets Mr. Anderson. He becomes the only one who sees her and brings her to the truth, but he is just as broken as she is...
" I´d never heard a man cry before, Bob, but...it´s awful. (...) I think some man aren´t used to it and don´t know what to do with all that feeling. Their emotions are hexane ignited in their chests and rips them apart, and then they feel like they´re going to die-just as something was dying, at that moment in Mitch."
Two of them pull strength from each other's tragedies... but, at the same time, they destroy each other and themselves.
“They call it the drowning instinct. It´s when drowning doesn´t look like drowning. In real life, if the water´s very cold, a person can´t help but gasp. It´s reflex. The thing is as soon as water hits your lungs, your throat closes off, even it the water´s warm. Your body´s trying to protect itself, and the reality is that a lot more people suffocate than truly drown. Regardless, to people on land, especially when you´re really close to the end, you don´t look like you´re in trouble. You don´t scream, but that´s because you can ´t, and you don´t wave your arms either or expend a lot of energy flailing. You´re just there. So people don´t notice that you´re drowning. That´s me. I think I´ve been drowning all this time and doing it so quietly, even I didn´t know it.”
My favorite part is the ending:
"You probably want me to regret Mitch. You want me to see that he lied, was some kind of predator; that I´m the victim, like you said. But Mitch was broken, too, in his way and just as much a hostage to his past and his mistakes. Maybe by trying to fix me, he was also healing himself in the only way he knew how. Oh, I can just hear you now. You and every therapist who ever lived will say that I´m rationalizing, that I´ve identified with a monster, just like those kids do who are kidnapped and live in a cage for twenty years. You´ll want to see me as damaged somehow, and then you´ll try to cure me. Well, I got news for you, Bobby-o. Cured is just synonym for coming around to your way of thinking. Cured is the word you use when I finally agree. But here´s the problem with that, Bobby-o. You and the therapists can yammer until you´re blue in the face, but I just can´t agree with you and probably never will. Because Mitch gave me love. He handed me back my life and that doesn´t make me a victim."
Ilsa J. Bick has a way with words. This is possibly one of the most emotionally intense books I have ever read. This story has a bittersweet romance and a plot that leads you on an emotional roller coaster.
I recommend it to anyone who wants to read something that is neither black nor white, but just like the real life, very very grey.(less)

Dear book, it´s not you. It´s me. I know it sounds like a cliche. You were good. You were really good, but I´m just the wrong kind of girl for all this jazz. I loved characters, suck and sweet time and slam poetry, but all that retelling, kissing, tickling, touchy-feely stuff were not my cup of tea. Sorry again. I know there are so many others who will adore you. I wish you all the luck in the world.
