In life, there’s your past, your present and your future.
You can’t control your past, but you can control your future. And in the interim, there’s just space. You’re just doing, because every time you read the next word in this sentence, there’s the future.
Fuck, did I just mindblown your brains out?
That’s why I don’t like judging a sequel.
You can’t be disappointed in a sequel just like you can’t be disappointed with your future because sometimes, it’s just out of your control.
That’s the thing with The Dream Thieves.
I feel disappointed, but I know I shouldn’t be because what else was I supposed to expect? What else was supposed to happen? It’s the future! Shit happens!
The reason why I loved the The Raven Boys was because of the characters. Ronan, Noah, Gansey, Adam. The four of them just fit together so perfectly, and with Blue in the picture, they became more human and more real. They became more than characters—they became people. God, I loved reading about the boys in the first book. I loved reading about their relationships with each other, how they talked, how they argued, how they ate, how they acted around each other, what clothes they wore, whatever.
But in The Dream Thieves, that was just absent.
Noah was basically nonexistent throughout this whole book, and I loved him so much!
This book was focused on the one and only Ronan Lynch—he completely shadowed the other characters.
Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Ronan Lynch. I actually really like the kid. (view spoiler)[ And he’s gay for Gansey. Good. I loved that, fuck yeah! Let the fanfiction begin! Evil laughter mwahahaha. (hide spoiler)] I loved his character, and I really liked how we learned so much more about him in this book. The one thing I love most about Ronan is his relationship with Gansey. It was just so, so precious to me. I’ve never read anything like it before. It’s extremely rare to read these kinds of boy relationships, they’re just so absent in books, but Stiefvater does an incredible job forming their friendship together.
If only the author could focus on the other boys though, that would be great as well. Other than that, things are looking good. The plot was exciting and the writing in this book! Stiefvater has this beautiful writing style that I just fall into and come to admire so fucking much.
I cannot wait for the next book, man.
I’m so excited.
And for you readers who have read this book:
(view spoiler)[ The only character who was a big ass face was Adam. I think Adam’s evil. I hope he’s not, but I really think he will be. Or he might be one of those evil/not evil characters, just like real life. In real life, it’s hard to distinct the good from the bad, maybe he’ll be like that. Also! That scene with Blue and Noah! Holy fuck, that was adorable. Noah and his smudginess and cuteness. And who else guessed that Kavinsky was a dream thief? Honestly, I didn’t even know this guy was in the first book. I thought he was just a random ass character. I have nothing to say about the Gray Man and Maura. I think that was cute but again, random. Stievater just added another antagonist for the sake of adding another antagonist? But as I said, the future is just out of your control sometimes. (hide spoiler)]
And for you readers who have not yet read this book:
Go pick up The Dream Thieves because it will blow your mind away.

It's a bit ridiculous actually, because I know they're full of adventure and lust and blood. If only I could remember them and write something really good and get a bijillion dollars from my precious work….
I only get flashes and bits and pieces of my dreams, like flying and soaring through the midnight sky and going through walls, being chased by creatures of the night while trying to maintain my invisibility, (you know, the usual) but that's it.
But reading Touch of Power was like having one of my magical dreams. The characters! The world! The breathtaking writing (Well there really is no writing in my dreams). Everything about this book was PERFECT.
The world-building was perfect, I love this fantastical world with all its mysterious creatures and magicians! There is no instalove. In fact, the novel takes over the course of several months. The content is a bit more mature, not aimed for girls with training bras, which I really loved. (SEXY TIME, fuck yeah!) The adventures all these characters go on make my heart GO INSANEEEE, actually. The plot is crazy! You will never be able to predict anything. Synder throws surprise after surprise after surprise that you're surprised you're still fucking being surprised. The writing never slowed down or rushed, but it still carried that fast-paced momentum that could have easily started a heart attack. Oh, and these characters! They are so real and understandable and they become so admirable and lovable. All I want to do is hug every single one of them. Seriously! The thrill you feel for them, the pain you feel for them, the happiness when you feel for them!
I did cry while reading this book.
Emotional me came out of her shell and I loved IT.
WHY didn't I give this book a complete five star out of five?
Well, ladies and gents, it's because of the romance! I know right?
There was something off about it. Something wrong. It was a wrongness (Haha! Yes, I totally just borrowed that description from Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone ). There was something so fucking weird about the love going on that I was just… cringing for a lack of a better word. I can't describe it. Yeah it was cute and yeah it was all this and that. But. It wasn't at the same time. Something off. Yeah. I'm probably making zero sense right now.
Hopefully, that mess will all work out in the second book. Please, though, because I am SO FUCKING excited for the rest of the series.
I LOVE YOU, MARIA V. SYNDER.

His work is just so damn easy to get lost in. The world he created for his readers is just so immense and so magical. Can I have a vacation in Westeros please? Although I’m not sure if right now would be appropriate, considering all this death and evil lurking about. And the characters! Each and every character has their own story and I loved them, regardless how stupid or glorious they were.
I don’t know man, these books are definitely something special.
And again, if you had read this book, you are welcome to read my stream of consciousness: (view spoiler)[ I feel so bad for Sansa! But I really like her development as a character, and when she acknowledged Jon Snow as her brother, I almost cried. It was too beautiful. Do you think Brienne actually died? That would be so cruel, but you know Martin, any character can just die. But that’s why I love these books so much, you just don’t know what’s going to happen. I still ship Jaime and Brienne now that Jaime and Cersei’s relationship is basically over. CATELYN STARK, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? But Catelyn isn’t Catelyn. It’s that dark magic—resurrection. And Arya! Poor, poor Arya! I hope she’s not actually blind, she’s too young to be blind! I do agree SHE doesn't have the right to kill Dareon, but he did desert the Night's Watch. I loved Cersei’s storyline, and her power struggle with Margery was so fun to read. Yes, fun, is the right word to describe it. I do think Cersei is crazy, and as I mentioned in my status update, she reminds me of Azula. They’re both crazy and evil. It sounds innocent-- Cersei just wants the best for her children, but she's stopping at nothing and she's doing it all wrong. BUT MARGERY, YOU ARE A SLUT? I don't how I feel about her. Seems to be me that Tyrell kids just get more and more annoying. Now the story with the Iron Islands and Dorne was very interesting. I really liked how Martin took us to these locations in the Seven Kingdoms that were never really touched upon in the previous books. ALL IN ALL, I CAN’T WAIT TO READ THE REST OF THE SERES AND SEE CERSEI ROT. Poor Tommen and poor Myrcella :( (hide spoiler)]
Because I can fly through these books, I won't be picking up A Dance with Dragons until next year. Maybe after season 4 comes out. To be honest, I am not down to wait years for the sixth book to come out so we're taking it slow.

I applaud George R. R. Martin for making these characters seem so real. That's actually pretty hard to accomplish, considering there are so many voices in this book.
Oh, these characters, from the good, the bad, and the ugly, you guys are such suckers and winners.
(view spoiler)[ Now welcome to my stream of consciousness. BRIENNE AND JAIME <3 OTP. And why is JON SNOW so fucking perfect? EVEN HIS IMPERFECTIONS ARE PERFECT! I know I didn't really like Ygriette, but I felt really bad for her after she died, so maybe she should have lived. SER LORAS, YOU ARE PISSING ME OFF. You're dumb. If you really liked Renly, you would've seen how much more Brienne loved Renly. God, you're ANNOYING. Where is your gallantry? Damn you, fake ass. TYRION, you actually became a kinslayer. Not sure how I feel about that...I know your dad was a douchebag, but still. However, I liked how you cared for Sansa, even though she didn't give two shits about you. THANK MARTIN LYSA DIED. I would have killed her myself by....by stabbing my book into pieces? Littlefinger is evil. Oh, I know. I read some spoilers about him, and I'm not liking it. I feel so bad for Sansa, my heart aches for her! I still really like her, but I feel terrible for her. I just want Sansa to be with Arya again. Oh, I really want Sansa to acknowledge Jon as her brother. She claims she's alone in this world, but she's stupid. She has Jon. ACKNOWLEDGE HIM, YOU POOR CHILD! SER JORAH, I totally knew you were going to betray her. One for love, remember? I'm not too sure if all that was coherent, but I'm loving this.
