I read the Dragonriders series when it first came out. It was one of the first books to feature a heroine who wasn't always likable, but strong and determined. The story very much reflected the time in which it was written, when women were still trying to gain even a modicum of equal rights within society. Even beyond that, it is still a great series of novels about the Dragonriders of Pern, both male and female, and it reflected the somewhat utopian ideal that everyone has a place and a purpose. Without the Dragonriders, there wouldn't be Eragon....(less)

Psychic powers were something new and interesting then, we've become more jaded since then. A good read though, on a dark and gloomy night.(less)

But the title, etc. don't make this clear. If you've already read these, be forewarned.
Eternity in Death A seductive killer is luring in victims with a promise of the impossible-immortality. Eve Dallas must strip away the fantasy to catch the coldhearted madman.
Ritual in Death Eve is plunged into the violent aftermath of a ritualistic murder-and into the mind of an alleged witness who can't remember a thing to save his life.
Missing in Death When a woman disappears from a New York City ferry, it's a case that only Eve Dallas can solve- because the woman didn't jump, and yet she's not on board.(less)

They are the epitome of what Nora does best, write involving characters in everyday situations that are fraught with emotional landmines. She guides her characters through with finesse. These are the books that I picked up when going through difficult emotional times myself. (less)

An oldie, but still fun. One of the first romantic thrillers it's seen live as a serial, a film starring Leslie Howard, and an Emmy Award winning TV movie starring Anthony Andrews (very dashing at the time) as the seemingly foppish Blakeney and Jane Seymour as his love interest. Zorro, who's alter ego was another fop, owes much to the Pimpernel. (less)

By taking Eve and Roarke out of NY, it allows readers to explore their relationship. I personally love how they sometimes grate on each other, have quarrels and sometimes act unreasonably, as married couples do, but within the safe knowledge that at the core they love each other fiercely.
If I had any quibbles, it would be the ending, which I won't give away but will feel familiar to readers of the series. (less)

A fall from his horse cost him a hand, and now he's trying to rebuild his life as he begins work as a private detective. When a case starts to go horribly wrong, Sid has to call on all his wit and courage to come out alive.(less)

She does such a great job of creating the context of families, of brothers, so that their relationship and the region they live in, almost become characters in and of themselves. Her Chesapeake Bay series is still one of my go-to books when I need a little break from the world - it helped me get through my divorce.
This book is no different. Here it's Boonesboro and the hotel the Montgomery brothers are restoring that are the secondary characters. Beckett is a great guy, the kind of small-town good guy that every girl should want, but he wants the widowed Clare, his high school crush. Ms. Roberts does a great job conveying Clare's struggle to raise three boys, and the conflict she feels over her dead husband as she grows closer to Beckett.(less)
