I am not as convinced that these two love each other, as I think the author probably intended the reader to be. The interest in the story for me was the main fallen-angel character, and the draw of the nephilim.
The main girl, Nora is actually rather annoying... (though I cannot complain- I have to admit it is nice to read about a 16yr old girl who for once-acts like she is 16 and is just as dumb and self-centered as most 16yr olds are. lol)
All this aside (I tend to air my bad feelings better than my good) The story was good enough that I am excited to read the others in the series for as long as they continue to be interesting. I enjoy the main story and the twists and the action quite a bit. Its nice to have a sort-of romance-book to be laced with more to it, more action than normal.
[UPDATE: book 2 Crescendo was even better than book 1, and is making the series much more interesting!! love it!](less)

This book was actually pretty good. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. It did have around 4 sex parts that I didn't mind reading thru... once I realized that the book was really good in story. The brotherhood is inspired. They are soooo loyal & loving, they are really protective of each other and honorable. It makes for a really good story regardless of the sex parts lol. So, in conclusion,... I enjoyed it more than I would have thought and will read book 2. :)
[update]Ok.. I am going to attempt to complete the read... I am changing status back to Currently Reading, yet again. ☺ I keep hearing how good these books are plus I have a friend telling me that I have to finish it. Also, I hate leaving books un-read for dumb reasons... And this is not actually an "erotica" book, it was in the "romance" section. => the romance section!! I should be able to read a romance book, without blushing through the romantic or sexual parts... *blushing*
And to prove it- I will finish this book!!!!!
[My First Review, May 2011] ...★★It Was Ok "Ughhh... I still want to finish this book -eventually- because it was not bad when I was reading it. But I felt too awkward to enjoy reading it when the sex parts started. They were steamy and too graphic for a reading-enjoyment. Now, if I required book-porn for any reason... then THIS would be they book-type to give it. But I am still a little too embarrassed for that type of thing to be part of my Normal-Enjoyment. Its just not my thing..."

She attempted to do something interesting there, I admit it is what drew me to this book but I am astounded that so many people consider this a good read. I half wonder if people don't rate it highly just because they think they are supposed to like it since New York Times said it is one of the notable books of 2013. All I can take away from that fact, is that I cannot trust New York Times to know SHIT about a good book.
The timeline repeats over and over as she dies then returns, which sounded cool, but was in reality just retardedly repetitive. It would have been better had the repetitive story lines been entertaining but even that was left out as each story line is dull and boring and droned on for too many pages with information that never seemed important.
When I decided not to complete the book, I checked spoilers to see if the story ever picked up pace or threw you for a turn that made the whole book worth while and from what I read, the portions that were boring and stupid were never made important to the story. The end result, the whole point to the entire story, doesn't even make sense... but because of the notoriety of the character mentioned, probably got this book much more praise than it had any right to claim. Just because your book alters time to (view spoiler)[kill Hitler (hide spoiler)], doesn't mean I forgive you for all the badly written portions that you made me read to get to the "ah-ha" moment that reveals that incredibly non-imaginative "twist".
Don't waste your time.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>(less)

I have not much to say... The main character in this book is awesome. He reminds me of a young (though much less sadistic & gruesom) version of Hanibal lector. - Let me explain. This child is extremely intelligent... but extremely tormented.
He plays with the classroom of kids he has taken hostage, and the whole situation plays out as a much-needed therapy session for the boy.
I enjoyed the book quite a bit, despite my feelings toward it. (This book was one of the posessions found in the locker of the Columbine Student Murderers.) Though, I read later that Stephen King was so distraught by the possibility of his having a hand in that tragedy that he pulled the book from future publications to prevent this from happenening again. (Although, you can still purchase this book as a 4-pack of Bachman books in most online used book stores.)(less)

I am a fan of the original story and am glad that this stayed on track with the story as I am used to it being told. But it was retold in a new enough way that I truely wanted to know what would happen next! It was a wonderful way to bring the tale to more current timeframe. A favorite. ♥
Can't wait to watch the movie. Hope they didn't ruin it too badly...(less)

This book was DELICIOUS!!!!! The first book was totally good. The second book was awesome... but THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING♥!!!
I enjoyed each and every one of...(view spoiler)[ their past romances as much as the beginning! I enjoyed Bill the gargoyle (even though I was sure he would end up evil at some point...) I enjoyed that they removed the possibility of the other boys in her life (even though I love Miles and Cam) and I was really glad to finally get the elusive back story to the whole curse thing!!!!!! (hide spoiler)]
It was much better than I could have even hoped for and now I am drooling for the next book Rapture. I can't belive it will be another YEAR!!???
I would also like to add that, as an atheist, this book was still very EXTREMELY enjoyable. Just because it has Christian Mythology in it, means nothing. The story is well worth the read REGARDLESS of your religious beliefs. SOO AMAZING!!! ♥♥♥♥♥♥["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>(less)

I had read Blue Bloods and was relatively unimpressed. I did enjoy it, but I wasn't moved to read book 2 instantly... I only read this book because of my friend Lyndsie whose excitement over the series intrigued me.
Now, I have to say that I better understand her excitement. I really enjoyed this book. There were holes in the first that left me confused a lot of the time. This one was much more in flow with itself and had much more seamless transitions to the different parts of the story. I loved the way everything came together. The bloodlines are extremely interesting to me now.
(view spoiler)[I am excited for the Schuyler / Oliver blood bond… that will be interesting. It is also very interesting that Jack force is sidling with the idea that he can either marry his sister, or his cousin lol. Schuyler is his cousin!! Charles Force is her uncle!! It actually made sense to me once I thought back (I like it when the story continues on one path in this way:…) Schuyler’s grandmother seemed to be rather up front with Charles Force in the first book… balzy almost. Now it makes more sense- She is his mother!! LOVE IT!
I also LOVED the idea that Mimi owes her life to Schuyler who is more powerful than the other fledglings, even though she is only a half-blood. (hide spoiler)]
Needless to say, I am excited with the Mimi-Jack thing, with the Schuyler thing, with Ollie, with Lawrence... with Bliss!! OMG. All of this adds up to an interesting and well thought out plot line. I will certainly be reading book 3, Revelations.
Perfect for Jack & Mimi: ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>(less)

I wasn't sure if I would really like the story or not, but I have to admit that the story was pretty good. I especially loved the stuff with Gabriel (view spoiler)[ the dog (hide spoiler)]. I really liked that Aaron not only (view spoiler)[understands all languages, but had full conversations with his dog, Gabriel (hide spoiler)]. That was super cute.
I was kind of sad they didn't go more into (view spoiler)[Aaron's love interest, Vilma (hide spoiler)]. She seems important in some way. The way she (view spoiler)[draws the attention of the angels as well as Aaron himself (hide spoiler)]. The characters were pretty decent. I really hope the next book explores more into Aaron's (view spoiler)[ability to talk to animals. I wish they would have expanded that part more; it would have been funny to see more of what his ability can do with his working at a vet hospital (hide spoiler)]. OMG it was soo sad that (view spoiler)[they killed his foster parents (hide spoiler)]! I totally was not expecting that. I figured there would be (view spoiler)[some sudden, last minute miracle that would swoop in & save his parents (hide spoiler)]. It makes me sad for Aaron... But that is probably part of the book's appeal; part of the reason I enjoyed it.
This book has an overall calm enjoyment about it. I will not obsess over this series like I have other books. But, I really enjoyed it. It was rather in a more endearing way. I want happiness for the characters who seemed to go through so much. Even before the (view spoiler)[whole nephilim thing took hold (hide spoiler)], the kid had a difficult life. Being in foster care at-all tells us that. I will definately read the following books to the series end. And I will recommend the story to others.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>(less)

They did this to us. There was no outside aggressor. They wanted an Apocalypse. They wanted the end. And they made it happen. It was orchestrated - who got in, who didn't. There was a master list. We weren't on it. We were left here to die. They want to erase us, the past, but we can't let them." - Bradwell The Boy with Birds in His Back
The above quote really should be how they explain the plot to you. It is much more interesting than the description that I read when looking up the synopsis. My friend, Kris, told me about this book. The thing that got me interested - which wasn't mentioned in the synopsis I read - was that the people who survived the "Detonations" were fused to the objects that they were nearest when the blast went off. The main characters have dolls head as a hand, living birds stuck in their back, fans in their throat, etc.
I completed this book after many starts and stops. I really did enjoy the story but the getting-to-it was long coming. I will probably read book 2 but not for a while. The book had many lulls that kept me uninterested even though the story was so neat that I kept going back and eventually did read the whole book. This is the reason for only 3 stars. I did like it,.. but not because I enjoyed the sequence of events as much as the plot itself.
★★★☆ I wanna say 3½ ★'s... I liked the story and enjoyed the book. I will certainly read book 2.

This book had a slow start but was well worth the read. I am definately going to read book-2 when it comes out The Power of Six, releases August 2011.
(view spoiler)[The love story was totally cheesy at first, and the action was lagging. BUT- Once it picked up it was much better. The love story got more meaning as the two were in actual situations together where their closeness would mean more. And the action was present which was also pushing him to stay with those he loves rather than being safe and just leaving. (hide spoiler)] It actually made sense at that point, which is good.
Next: To watch the movie. I hope it does the book justice. They usually don't.
Yea, the movie didn't do the book justice... Though I loved Alex Pettyfer as #4 AKA John Smith, and I enjoyed the way they portrayed the action... they changed stuff that actually kind-of hurt my feelings. Like...(view spoiler)[ the thing with Henry's death made me mad, there was no final battle for him to help deal with so they killed him early... His friendship with Sam never really took off so the movie lagged on the importance of his having a real friend... the fire stuff was all missing!! All of it!! I was really looking forward to seeing his fire-training, and his rescuing her from a burning building. all cut. (hide spoiler)] The movie gave it a good try... the actors were well casted and the graphics were radtacular. But the screenwriter was an asshole. oh well...

I am dying to find out what happens with (view spoiler)[ Reyes! I can't believe Charlie bound him to his body!! It would be awesome payback since he has left his body her entire life to protect her whenever needed... (hide spoiler)]!
I just want to know more. Reyes Alexandar Farrow AKA Rey'aziel *swoon* is just amazingly interesting. Cookie is like *the* best friend! She is awesome. And Charlie is so snarky!! UPDATE: After completing the other 2 books, [by May 24th] this series has hit me HARD. I am sooo in love with these books that -to the point of obsession- cannot yet take myself away from this story... Just as I did with Twilight (eff the hype, it was good!) I am going to have to re-read the series again, from the beginning. This story captivated me as no other has since 2009. I am in-love. I would recommend this series to anyone (and have). I was expecting a longish boring old-English romance and was pleasantly surprised by the uneasiness of the characters.
I loved the tormented characters and their selfish evil ways. (view spoiler)[I was endeared also by the tragedy of their love stories, being so malevolent in nature it seemed suitable that they would not experience love the same way most people do. The amount of passion that Heathcliff has (which is by and large directed to ruining lives for his amusement) seems to greatly effect is large ability to love despite his hatefulness to the rest of his surrounding characters. (hide spoiler)] I really enjoyed this book and am glad that I agree to its "classic novel" status more because if its worth than its age.

Although I enjoyed it myself, If you aren't instantly excited by the prologue, then you may be bored by the first half of the book. Although I continued to want to know what was going to happen, and continued reading,... I noticed how very little happened to move the story along within the first half of the book. I remember thinking that I was glad I was enjoying it or I would be pissed!
That said, I still totally recommend the book to anyone who enjoys the 'tragic lovestory'. The love story in this book series is as epic as can be and very worth every word written toward it.

I got thru the prologue, then halfway thru chapter one... then quit. B.O.R.I.N.G. Seriously... I think it is important to catch the reader with something- ANYTHING interesting within the first 15pages. Otherwise, see-ya!
Elaborate, you say? Why of course!
• Reporters are annoying. I don't like to watch reporters on a normal day... and don't like to hear about them in a book.
• Flowers are boring... If there is anything interesting about the framed flattened exotic flowers- mention it so it doesnt bore me!
• Old people, who were cops, and are now retiring... are boring!
• Cops are boring.. cop shows, investigative television etc= all boring.
• Court cases? You guessed it- B.O.R.I.N.G...
• Mysteries can be interesting,... but this one doesn't seem to be.
Yea.. so I won't be finishing this book any time soon. I need more to my stories and am not so into the realistic-fiction, as it were. I am one of the few people in the world who doesn't enjoy, and doesn't watch NCIS, and all those other cop shows. (I like Dexter, does that count?)
Update: In addition to the above, I recently decided to watch the movie since I no longer had any interest in reading the book. ...And... wowza. I am actually really glad that I didn't read it now. I am not a fan of (view spoiler)[rape (hide spoiler)]. And the scene in the movie really made me uncomfortable. From what I hear, the small scene in the movie does not compare to the detail and length of the (view spoiler)[rape (hide spoiler)] scenes in the book. Apparently the one day in the movie is actually more than a month in the book... so, yea. I will not finish this book. Bad juju.
