Bryanna is a witch with a unique problem. Her magical powers don’t seem to work in the way she wants it to. When she wants to conjure up a change of clothes she gets a jar of skin cream instead. Her attempt at making a flower grow yields a cheetah-print chair instead. “Whatnots & doodads” is what she calls the odd objects that appear when she calls forth her earth magic. Cast out by her wealthy family for her magical deficiency, she finds herself a little lost and in a bad relationship with a selfish warlock. When she realizes he is only with her for her money, she flees eager to start a new chapter in her life away from the harsh judgments of her coven.
After driving aimlessly for days her car breaks down near a mysterious town called Strange Hollow. She is picked up by the town’s founder, Jacinda and her driver, Zeke. It seems Strange Hollow is a town made up of misfits and outcasts from the supernatural world. Jacinda is a fae who was ostracized by her family and Zeke is a demon who has decided to forsake his demonic side in favor or being good. Zeke is drawn to Bryanna as he senses that she is a lost soul that he can heal. Bryanna wants nothing more than to forget about her ex and though her attraction to Zeke scares her the two soon begin a steamy love affair.
This paranormal romance had a lost self-doubting heroine and a sexy demon hero who was more than willing to help his witch overcome her insecurities and see the positive in her unique magical abilities. This was a novella so the two fell in love very quickly but Stacey Kennedy did a good job in conveying both Zeke’s and Bryanna’s emotions throughout their courtship. It had a couple of steamy sex scenes and Bryanna’s magical attempts added some comic relief to the story. I really liked Strange Hollow and could easily picture the town with its distinct buildings, homes, and gardens. The idea of the different supernaturals; vampires, goblins, ghosts, and were-animals living and working together in peace was nice. It made me want to learn more about the town and its inhabitants. Whatnots & Doodads was an enjoyable paranormal romance and gets 3.5 stars. ...more
Cry for Me is the unconventional love story of Ava and Sevastian. These two are both left brained, workOriginally posted at AsianCocoa's Secret Garden
Cry for Me is the unconventional love story of Ava and Sevastian. These two are both left brained, workaholics that let the pursuit of work consume their lives. They are both independently wealthy and don’t allow themselves time for romantic entanglements. Sevastian has a strict set of days and times that he devotes to his love interest and many women have felt that this odd regimen was too stingy and would eventually end their relationship with him. As a fellow workaholic and commitment phobe, Ava had no problem with these strict rules.
Sevastian and Ava are both “strange” characters with very complicated emotions. In the midst of difficult work projects, Ava would become so consumed with her work that she would become trapped in her own head. She went through long periods of not feeling any emotions and going days without eating. Sevastian who is publicly aloof and unemotional found it liberating to be able to come alive during his violent scenes with Ava. She needs pain to open up the trap door to her over analytical head so she can get back to reality and get back in touch with her emotions. What I love about these characters is how they were able to open up to each other and explore the things that bring them happiness and joy.
Charlotte DeCorte’s novella is packed full of love and emotional triumph. Outstanding writing and multi-dimensional characters give this story it’s darkly beautiful edge. Cry for Me is a dark love story with intense, sometimes violent love scenes. Sevastian is a sadist and Ava is a masochist and that’s what makes them perfect complements for one another. The relationship isn’t conventionally perfect or pretty but it is what works for these characters and makes them happy. Cry for Me may seem like a brutal love story from the outside but once you get to know Ava and Sevastian and delve deeper into their relationship you realize the depth of their love and understanding of each other’s needs. ...more
The Fallen: Demon is Kristina Douglas’ second book in The Fallen series. It starts seven years after t4.5 Stars Reviewed at: AsianCocoa's Secret Garden
The Fallen: Demon is Kristina Douglas’ second book in The Fallen series. It starts seven years after the end of the first novel and is the fallen angel, Azazel’s story. Azazel is the former leader of the Fallen and he was the second archangel to fall from Heaven after Lucifer. After the death of his beloved wife, Sarah, he leaves Raziel in charge of the others and their home in Sheol. The dark and brooding Azazel decides to go after the demon, Lilith and kill her to stop an ancient prophecy from coming to pass. The prophecy states that he will fall in love and wed the Lilith and they will rule hell together. The legend of the Lilith says that she is a succubus demon who seduces men and kills infants. He stalks the Lilith throughout several of her human identities. He finally reveals himself to her during her incarnation as Rachel Fitzpatrick. She has no memory of being a demon. All she knows is that she can never stay in one place for very long and that she cannot go anywhere near infants.
We are introduced to the Dark City in this novel and most of the story takes place in this dreary place that is described as “people living in black and white in a Technicolor universe” like in the movie, Pleasantville. All of the people, scenery, and even the food is this odd gray color and Rachel and Azazel are the only things in vibrant color. The people and situations are not what they seem. There is a shocking betrayal followed by torture and unfortunately Rachel suffers the consequences.
The love story was similar to Raziel in that the hero denies for most of the book that he is in love with the heroine and that she is his chosen mate. Azazel was really cold and mean towards Rachel but that was only because of what he thought Rachel was. Azazel has a couple of opportunities to have Rachel killed but rescues her both times. He denies any romantic feelings for her and explains his lust for Rachel as the Lilith trying to seduce him. It took some time but he finally gave in and accepted the fact that Rachel was his chosen one. I enjoyed Rachel’s feisty attitude and her snarky banter with Azazel despite the danger to her life. Although she is kidnapped by Azazel twice, Rachel falls for him and finds herself craving his touch and affection.
“Are you going to bite me before or after sex?” “During,” he said. Then put his hand between my legs. I arched off the bed, surprised and aroused by his touch. “Why are you wet demon?” he whispered. “You’re not supposed to be liking this.” “I’m not a demon any longer.” “No,” he said. “Only to me. You have become my own personal demon. You haunt me, tempt me, drive me mad with wanting you. I have chosen you, because I cannot imagine ever wanting anyone else ever again. You possess me, obsess me; you’re everywhere inside me and I cannot get rid of you. And worst of all, I don’t want to.” I was breathless, staring at him. “For a declaration of love, that leaves a lot to be desired.” “I don’t love you. I won’t love you,” he said, and his gently moving fingers found the center of my pleasure and I jerked, sliding down on the bed. “But by the time I’m done with you, you won’t notice the difference.” ~ Rachel & Azazel
As with the first book I totally fell in love with the Fallen angel’s wings. I love how they unfurl their wings and envelope their mates after making love to them. I really love Kristina Douglas’ world of The Fallen. I thought the details and the flow of the book were outstanding. I enjoyed both protagonists and the dialogue and the suspense kept me interested throughout the novel. This book can be read as a standalone but I would recommend reading the first one just to get a better understanding about the Fallen angel’s history. This was a fabulous follow up to the first novel and I am looking forward to book three. ...more
Annabel Joseph’s latest novel, Lily Mine is a historical fantasy that takes place in England during the mid 1820’s. Twenty-one year old, Lily KendallAnnabel Joseph’s latest novel, Lily Mine is a historical fantasy that takes place in England during the mid 1820’s. Twenty-one year old, Lily Kendall has just been disowned by her father for an indiscretion that has caused him to lose his job. Lily makes her way from London to the English countryside to seek employment as a gardener. Her dream is to one day have her own greenhouse and flower shop. After turning down several offers of housekeeping work she is directed deeper into the countryside towards Lilyvale Manor to inquire about gardening work.
After asking to speak with the head gardener or mistress of the house she finds herself in the main parlor being introduced to James Atherton, Earl of Ashebourne. Lily feels an immediate attraction and James feels shocked at the uncanny resemblance to his wife that has been lost to him. James hires Lily to be his gardener, but after she leaves he decides to make another bolder proposal. As a doppelganger to his wife, Lilliana, he decides to ask Lily to act as his wife either until she returns or until the next year. In exchange he will set her up with her own greenhouse and flower shop. She agrees to this name only arrangement but soon the sexual tension between them becomes too great to ignore and James and Lily give in to their primal urges. There are scenes of bondage, spanking and cropping.
I really liked Lily’s honesty when she was able to articulate her feelings. And I really loved James’ quiet, calm but dominant personality. I thought he paced himself well. He wasn’t overpowering and didn’t push Lily beyond her comfort zone which surprisingly went further than he thought. The mind games were absent from this novel which was refreshing. But there were some external conflicts that had the potential to derail their love affair. And James taught Lily how to read and write which made me love him more. Once she learned how to read she would sneak up into the attic to read his “porn” collection. She was such a naughty girl.
Lily Mine was a really sweet love story with very light BDSM elements. I didn’t really like James at first because he seemed a little cold and calculating in the beginning. But as he opened up to Lily I saw him in a better light. I was rooting for Lily to get her happily ever after because she was such a deserving person. There was a nice twist of fate at the end of the book that really made this an enjoyable read. Lily Mine was a great historical romance that would appeal to any erotica romance junkie. ...more
Wednesday Carson has been with her dominant Vincent for the last five years. He has trained her to be a perfectReviewed at: AsianCocoa's Secret Garden
Wednesday Carson has been with her dominant Vincent for the last five years. He has trained her to be a perfect submissive. She doesn’t question his commands and even anticipates his wants before he speaks. They have a trust and bond that doesn’t need frivolous romance or emotions to be real.
Vincent takes Wednesday out on a rare date for her birthday. He also decides to share her with a former student of his. Daniel Laurent is a dominant who has been on the lookout for a submissive he could be exclusive with and possibly make his wife. He takes one look at Wednesday and falls hard for her. The attraction between the two is mutual. Wednesday has never felt anything for the other dominants that Vincent has exposed her to. But Daniel is different. He is sexy, virile and much younger than Vincent. She can’t seem to stay focused on pleasing her master. Vincent is not pleased and punishes her for losing herself to Daniel.
Vincent was older than Wednesday and had been training her since she was eighteen or nineteen years old. He was somewhat of a father figure to her. He was very stern and kept his true feelings for her closely guarded. Daniel was the complete opposite of Vincent. He wore his heart on his sleeve and was so sweet and romantic. Wednesday’s childhood was not the greatest and she was not shown a lot of affection. She was confused and conflicted about her feelings for Daniel and struggled with expressing her emotions to him.
A deal was made between the two men. It was agreed that Vincent would break up with Wednesday and Daniel would take over as her dominant. But Vincent wanted to be kept updated on her well-being. Daniel wasn’t too keen on having to report on Wednesday but he wanted her so much that he agreed to it. Wednesday is clueless as she tries to move on from the breakup. Daniel comes to her rescue to help pick up the pieces of her broken heart.
Annabel Joseph’s characters are so full of life and I always feel the emotions that the characters are going through. I fell in love with Daniel right along with Wednesday. He was a dominant with a soft heart and very firm hand. He allowed Wednesday some free reign but knew how to put her back in place when needed. I really loved both Wednesday and Daniel and enjoyed watching their love story. And oh my god, the love scenes were steamy, five-alarm fire, HOT. How about getting birched, while tied to a tree, that grows in the middle of the house? Seriously, it was so primal and sexy!
Annabel’s writing skills are superb. She truly is an erotica writing Goddess. If you like your BDSM rough but with a romantic, sweet side read this book now. It was incredible! ...more
The Auction takes place on a distant unnamed planet. Annabelle Walker has been on her own ever since her parentsReviewed at AsianCocoa's Secret Garden
The Auction takes place on a distant unnamed planet. Annabelle Walker has been on her own ever since her parents were killed by the monsters “out there” years prior. As a part of their society the humans auction off every young woman when she turns eighteen. This is a way for the city to make money to buy supplies from transport ships. Belle’s turn has come up and she is up on the block. She has been working on and pleasuring Stephen Thurman for over 2 years in hopes that he will keep his promise to buy her at the auction and then set her free. Belle is known as a feisty, trouble-maker so no one else bids on her except for Stephen until a mysterious hooded stranger makes an offer and outbids him.
After he pays for Annabelle, the stranger reveals himself to the shock and horror of everyone. He is one of the dragon-winged aliens that inhabit this distant planet. He has come into the city for the first time to buy himself a mate. Belle is both afraid and aroused but then adrenaline kicks in and she decides to run away. But wait. The alien can fly so of course Belle is captured and then flown away to the alien’s cave dwelling high in the mountains.
Annabelle is told to call him Master. He lives with his brother who she is told to call Sir. In this alien society the males share their mates amongst family members and Sir gets the first chance to sex up Belle. Does she consent to this? No. But she doesn’t really have a choice. She worked so hard to gain her freedom and avoid enslavement only to find herself in the service of two aliens.
“Why didn’t you go with my brother?” His voice came out a snarl. What was I supposed to say to that? I just looked at the ground.
His shout pissed me off and suddenly the intensity of my anger matched his own. “What do you mean why didn’t I go to him? Why didn’t I just go and rip off my clothes and throw myself at the strange alien guy with wings and a cock too big for me? Because I’m not crazy?”
“It’s not too big for you. I know you can take it.”
I put my hands over my ears and squeezed my eyes shut because something in his voice was turning me on, and I knew that wasn’t’ the appropriate response. These were monsters that were going to kill me. ~ Master & Annabelle
Annabelle is Master’s mate but she is also Sir’s plaything. She is attracted to both brothers especially Master and slowly, over time she accepts her fate and begins to enjoy her role as their slave. I can’t tell you about all the kinky things that happened in the cave. You’ll have to read the story to get all those hot, steamy, sexy, delicious details. I will tell you that it filled my smut fix perfectly.
Kitty Thomas’ writing is superb as always. I usually fall in love with her twisted, depraved heroes but not so much with Master and Sir. I mean, I liked Sir who was the “nicer one” of the two brothers and I liked the sadistic Master even more. But I wasn’t in love with them. The nice brother had blue skin and the mean brother had red skin. I’m not sure why but that made me laugh. The sci-fi was very light in this story. I’m not a huge fan of aliens but dragon-winged heroes make me swoon, especially when they use their wings to protect their mates. As is my usual gripe with novellas, this story wasn’t long enough. I’m left with questions about the humans’ and aliens’ back story and I would have liked to see Master’s and Annabelle’s relationship expanded. Sequel, please?! ...more
Submissive Beauty begins with a sex demonstration at a BDSM club called Sanctuary. Gabrielle is so turned on by MasReviewed at The Forbidden Bookshelf
Submissive Beauty begins with a sex demonstration at a BDSM club called Sanctuary. Gabrielle is so turned on by Master Thomas’ voice and his expert handling of the submissive on stage with him that she gets herself off right in the middle of the audience of the club. I was hooked within the first ten pages!
Gabrielle has just gotten out of a bad relationship and is ready to try out a lifestyle she has dreamed about for years. Throughout her 10 year marriage she tried in vain to get her husband to try out kinky new things. But Scott was disinterested and always made her feel like a dirty slut.
Thomas tracks her down after their meeting at the club. Even through their first phone conversation he gets under her skin. He is completely captivated with Gabrielle and wants to train her but he wants to do it with the help of his friend David. At first Gabrielle is unsure about this new arrangement but she is curious and open enough to give it a try.
Gabby was a little lost and in need of guidance. David and Thomas were opposites who each brought a different element of dominance into Gabrielle’s life. Thomas was a lot tougher and more of the disciplinarian. David was more of the soothing, calming force that she needed. Their relationship worked because the two guys helped to bring out Gabrielle’s inner vixen. With their guidance, Gabby fully awakened into the submissive woman she had always dreamed of.
Thomas and David helped her to become comfortable in her own skin and learn to trust. But she also remained an independent woman who did not lose herself and let her dominants take over her life. There was a shocking betrayal and twist that came out of nowhere during the latter part of the book that made the story even more interesting.
Eliza Gayle did a wonderful job conveying the varied emotions and feelings that Gabrielle, Thomas and David went through during their journey. The characters were all likable and I enjoyed watching this relationship from beginning to end. The sex scenes were steamy and the training was deliciously arousing and fun to watch. Both men really put Gabby through some really satisfying and kinky situations. Thomas and David were both gorgeous virile dominants who truly loved their beautiful Gabrielle unconditionally. My favorite was Thomas but I have a soft spot for sadists. *wink*

Twenty-eight year Christy has had a rough life. She has been raped multiple times, worked as a prostitute and struggled with bulimia. She has had numerous one-night stands and has never been in a real relationship. Plagued with low self-esteem all her life she doesn’t know how to love anyone. How can she when she doesn’t even like herself? Fed up with her life in Minnesota she moves to Florida to accept a position as an assistant for a famous photographer named Paul. Her job assignment is to shoot photos of Paul while he is dying of AIDS. Paul lost his partner to the disease three years prior and has given up on life because he wants desperately to join Jim on the other side. But before he dies, Paul wants the last days of his life documented through photos that will be published as a book about AIDS. He hopes the book will help other people to understand the affects of the disease and the need for protection against the HIV virus.
Paul and Christy become extremely close during their months working and living together. Christy finally realizes what it is like to have someone to love. Even though she doesn’t love Paul in the traditional sense she starts to open up her heart to the possibilities of falling in love with a man. Then Brian, Paul’s nurse, enters her life. He knows right away that Christy is the one for him. But it takes Christy awhile longer to recognize that her feelings for Brian are true love.
I went into this book expecting a very emotional read. Unfortunately I was disappointed. Even though the heroine, Christy was a very sympathetic character, I felt her voice was very detached. The scene where Paul passed away should have had me in tears but my eyeballs stayed dry. This book had a touching storyline and I expected to be sucked in except the emotional element was lacking throughout the book. The story idea was good and I completely empathized with both Christy’s and Paul’s struggles but the flow of the book seemed very disjointed and lacked feeling. Touchable Love gets 2.5 stars. ...more

4.5 Stars This is book one of a new series that centers on a rock band called the Sinners. Backstage Pass is Brian Sinclair’s story. He is the lead guitar player and main song writer of the group. Myrna Evans is a psychology professor who has a PhD in Human Sexuality. She uses music as a teaching tool in her lectures and is quite an expert in rock music. Coincidentally she is at a teaching seminar and staying in the same hotel as the Sinners. Her decision to go to the hotel bar leads her to run into one of her favorite bands and meeting the members of the group.
She is instantly attracted to Brian even though he is shit-faced drunk. Myrna invites him to her hotel room with promises of a remedy to help him get over his hangover. No sex takes place that first night but the next morning is a different story. Myrna only intends for their encounter to be a one-time event but this is only the beginning of their daily marathon, sexcapades.
Brian is a hopeless romantic despite the fact that he has just had his heart broken. He falls head over heels in love with Myrna almost immediately. Making love to Myrna brings out his muse and soon he begins writing music again. With no paper in sight, Brian begins to write the music that he hears onto Myrna’s back, chest, and stomach. How sweet is it to have a man so inspired by making love to you that he writes the musical notes all over your body?
“I’d cuddle with you, but I don’t want to sweat off my riff and solo.” She laughed. “That must be the first time that excuse has ever been used to avoid after-sex cuddling.” He took her face between both hands and kissed her reverently. Never had she been kissed reverently before. “It’s the truth, though. I’d love to hold close for hours.” She smiled. A sweet sex god. What more could a girl want? He kissed her again. “Ah Myrna,” her murmured. “I think my muse resides deep, deep inside you.” “You sure know how to use her in exactly the right way.” ~ Brian & Myrna
I loved how open the band members were with their sexuality. It was so refreshing to see a heroine be so uninhibited and open-minded. Myrna, who is dubbed “Professor Sex” by the band, was a bold professional woman with no sexual hang-ups. Brian was a sweet lovesick man that completely wore his heart on his sleeve and was not afraid to show his love for Myrna. There was a whole lot of sex with some ménages thrown in to spice things up. But intertwined with the marathon sex sessions was a tender love story about a sexy romantic rock star and an equally sexy, love-phobic older woman, who journey together to find true love.
I enjoyed the mix of sex, love and rock & roll in this novel. Olivia Cunning did an amazing job creating her multi dimensional characters. The main love story was about Myrna and Brian but the introduction of the other band members and hints of their pending stories was seamless. This is a great contemporary romance for fans that like their sex scenes extra spicy.

Sojourn With a Stranger takes place in Norfolk, Virginia in the year 1870. Nineteen year old Raine Brinsley is rescued during a tragic boating accident that claimed the lives of her parents. She is left all alone with few options to get back to Maine and her elderly grandfather. She accepts a position as a servant in the home of the boat’s owner to earn enough money to get back home. Derek Stafford is the younger, business minded and favorite son of the Stafford family. There is a “race” between him and his older brother, Lyman. The first one to produce a male grandchild will get the title to Stafford House and control the family’s businesses. Lyman already has 3 daughters and Derek’s wife suffered 3 miscarriages prior to her death.
Derek is immediately attracted to Raine and decides to offer her $10,000 to have his child. Of course Raine feels insulted and doesn’t immediately accept his offer. But the prospect of getting back home and having the extra money to care for her grandfather is too much for her to resist.
Raine’s first few nights in Derek’s home have her waking up to a ghostly figure in her room that seems to be trying to tell her something. She finds out that the ghost is Derek’s wife, Lucinda, who drowned 8 months earlier. Did Lucinda really kill herself or was she murdered? At first Raine suspects that Derek may have had something to do with his wife’s death. But the circumstances behind her death are not as clear as everyone thought.
I really did not like Derek in the beginning of this book. Even though he was polite around Raine, I didn’t feel like he cared about anyone but himself. The way he propositioned her to have his child was callous and hurtful. I was as outraged as Raine was. I did like Derek’s maid, Crete and his manservant, Henry though. They took care of Raine and had unwavering hope that everything would work out. There were tender hopeful moments between Raine and Derek throughout the book. The love scenes were swoon worthy and Derek seemed to redeem himself a little.
Keta Diablo did a brilliant job with this short historical romance novel. It had great romantic conflict, a bit of mystery and suspense and subtle paranormal undertones. She had me on an emotional roller coaster and by the end I was surprised to find myself liking Derek a lot. ...more

Love Tattoo was a nice short romantic love story. I quickly devoured this book in one sitting.
Cara Riley is an aspiring country singer on her way to Nashville to try to start a music career one last time. While driving from her home in Texas to Nashville she stops at a rest stop for a bathroom break. On her way back to her car she meets a mysterious man. Will Brennan is a truck driver who becomes enamored while hearing Cara singing at the rest stop. He introduces himself to her and seduces her with Shakespearean quotes and a ravishing kiss that creates a fever within Cara she has never felt.
The two quickly begin a physical love affair while trying to get to know one another. Cara falls in love with Will almost immediately after they make love for the first time. Her singing career is quickly forgotten as all Cara wants to do is spend her time in Will’s company. While she notices some peculiar things about him she remains in denial for quite awhile about who Will really is. Even though he never tries to hide his real identity it does take awhile for the light bulb to come on in Cara’s head.
I liked how the author weaved in song and musical references as well as Shakespearean poetry throughout the story. Will was an Irishman so there was also some Gaelic dialogue within the book as well. The characters were likable and the love story was sweet. There were several sex scenes but the heat level was not very high on the erotic scale. I would recommend this to the romance junkie who likes a little sprinkle of paranormal on the side. ...more

Ascension is a story about a witch, Lealandra and her half human/demon lover, Taig. Lea has sought Taig out after six years of being apart to ask for his protection. Someone is trying to kill her and she knows that Taig who is one of the most sought after demon hunters in New York City, is the only one who can help her find the killers and protect her.
Her Counter-Balance Charlie was shot dead in their apartment by an unknown sniper. Lea is unsure if she was the intended target or if the killers wanted Charlie dead in order to leave Lea unprotected. Witches as powerful as Lea need a counter-balance to absorb their excess magic so that they can stay in control. The significance of a counter-balance is even more important if a witch goes through their ascension. A witch’s ascension or transition will either kill them or if they survive make them incredibly powerful. Lea is very close to going through her ascension and fears that without her coven she may not survive it. With Charlie dead she is vulnerable. But she’s unsure if the murderer is someone from within her coven or some other unknown supernatural being.
Taig agrees to help Lea on the condition that she resumes a sexual relationship with him. Lea balks at this request and offers to pay him instead. She’s afraid that if she gets involved with him again she will lose her heart again. The first part of the book spent too much time rehashing the fact that Lea and Taig were so in love with each other and should have never left each other. There was a lot of time spent with the two of them going back and forth about how much they loved each other and how hurt they were when things ended. Taig blamed Lea for leaving him to join a new coven and accepting a counter-balance who he assumed was also her lover.
When they finally stop squabbling and agree to a “price” the story finally starts to pick up momentum. Lea and Taig make a trip to Lea’s coven so that she can pack up things for her move into Taig’s house. The presence of a demon inside the coven is seen as a sign of betrayal. The coven’s leader Gregori declares that if Lea leaves again she will not be welcome back.
Taig and Lealandra’s love story was interesting and I enjoyed seeing them work together to get through her ascension and track down the supernatural creatures that were after her. Lea helped Taig to stop denying who he was and finally accept his demon side. He was always afraid that she would not accept his scaly, horned, evil side but when he finally shed his human skin and let her see his demon body she was not afraid and embraced the demonic side of him with unconditional love.
This paranormal love story was set in New York City with Lea’s coven being housed in a contemporary high rise building. I always imagine covens being out in the woods or in old mansions so this was a refreshing change. I felt Felicity Heaton did a wonderful job creating this supernatural world full of witches and demons. Ascension had exciting fight scenes and several sultry sex scenes with a sexy winged demon that would do anything to protect his beautiful witch. This is the first book in the Shadow and Light Trilogy and I look forward to following Taig’s and Lealandra’s adventures. ...more

Wicked Seduction is a historical romance that takes place in London, England. There was plenty of action and conflict with a strong level-headed heroine and a dashing flawed hero.
This book starts off with a lot of action as Kit is in the process of saving a young man from his former fate of enslavement. He has returned to the same slave ship he was tortured on to kill his former master.
Kit Frazier is a former pirate slave who has bought his freedom and is just returning to London after being away for 7 years. The many years he spent as a slave have left him physically and emotionally scarred. He suffers horribly with nightmares and flashbacks of his past life. He fears that the “savage beast” within him will never allow him to live in polite society.
Madeline Wilson has lived with her Uncle and cousin ever since her father died. She runs the Earl’s household and has helped to raise her cousin Rose. The mating Season is about to start in London and Maddy and Rose are preparing to find themselves husbands. The Earl has given both of them ultimatums that if they do not become engaged during this Season they will both be out in the streets. At the ripe old age of 27, Maddy feared she would never find a suitable husband.
There was instant chemistry and attraction between Kit and Maddy when they meet for the first time at Kit’s cousin’s house. But Kit’s internal conflict kept him fearful of hurting Maddy so he continued to deny his feeling for her. Although they both knew they loved each other that conflict as well as Rose’s meddling kept them apart.
Maddy was very patient with Kit and helped him to get through his anger and depression issues. When Kit’s anxiety overwhelmed him Maddy was always his strong and solid anchor who helped to pull him out of his downward spiral. But Kit was not a completely helpless man either as he was very protective of his “angel”. After finding out that her Uncle was spreading scandalous rumors about Maddy that tainted her character and just about ended her chances at finding a husband. He forced the Earl to give Maddy a huge dowry in exchange for his life and good reputation. Even after threatening her uncle, Kit still feels conflicted about his feelings for Maddy and can’t give her what she truly wants – marriage and happily ever after. After Kit left London to find his family, I was afraid that Maddy and Kit would not make it. They seemed perfect for each other as they were both each other’s strength.
What I liked about this book was although Maddy was the virginal, lower-class pauper she was the one that rescues Kit from his internal demons and saves his sanity. It seemed at times she was the seducer. As she slowly brought him out of his traumatized past, a loving strong man emerges. I like the idea of a flawed, vulnerable hero and headstrong heroine. This novel was full of romance and the love scenes between the two were beautiful and very steamy. I loved the way Kit took control and how he lovingly treated his angel, Maddy. This was the first novel that I have read by Jade Lee and I look forward to reading more of her work. ...more

3.5 Stars When I found out that there is a Native American Dom who owns a BDSM club and the setting of this novel books takes place in Hawaii I was already hooked.
We are introduced to a teenaged, Marjorie Rizzoli in the prologue. She is being protected by the FBI because she is the sole witness in a murder investigation against her father and older brother. Unfortunately there is a mole within her protection detail and the seventeen year old has to run for her life after her safe house is shot up and she is the only that survives.
Ten years later we find Marjorie living in Hawaii and working as a bartender at a BDSM club called Rough ‘n Ready. Everyone there knows her as Dee Sumner. She has grown attached to the island paradise and does not look forward to moving on but knows that after 2 years of being on the island it’s time for her to find a new place and new identity if she wants to stay one step ahead of her murderous family. But she finds herself falling in love with her boss, Micah Ross. At first she tries to fight her attraction to him. She knows that romantic entanglements can only lead to trouble and her number one motto is “No Men”. Micah has made up his mind that he wants Dee’ s total submission in his bed despite her protests that she’s not into the BDSM lifestyle. Through his patience and perseverance Micah slowly starts to crumble Dee’s defenses and gain her trust. But Dee still can’t trust him completely enough to tell him the truth about her real identity.
By chance, an old FBI agent manages to track Dee down to the BDSM club and she takes off running again while the agent is questioning Micah about her whereabouts. Micah goes to Dee’s apartment to look for her and finds evidence that she has been kidnapped. Although upset that Dee has lied to him about her identity, his fears for her life sends him flying over to the mainland to find his newly initiated submissive lover and hopefully bring her back home where she belongs.
I liked how the author had a hint of suspense and danger within Micah’s and Dee’s story. Micah was aggressive towards Dee but also knew when to back off. Dee was a spirited, independent woman who really came into her own when she let down her guard and let Micah bring out her submissive nature. This novel will appeal to the readers who like suspenseful romantic stories with mild BDSM elements and a moderately aggressive alpha male hero with a feisty, determined heroine.

The Blood Moon of Winter was very slow in the beginning. The prologue gave the reader a quick glimpse into a mystical world where everything was dying and they were in need of their Goddess to return to save their world.
Lilyana Makay is leading a pretty ordinary life. She has no social life and spends her free time either babysitting her twin niece and nephew or curled up with a good book. Her sister Taynia tries to set her up with eligible bachelors but Lily is just not interested in the dating scene. A chance meeting with one of her favorite authors opens up new feelings of love and longing that Lily has never felt before. Meeting and falling in love with Jason Caurns has left her confused as to whether or not she can leave him and her human life behind to help save the land of Makayra.
Lily’s dream-like altered states take her back to Makayra where her only contact is with a white panther named Sarwanell. It’s through him that she learns about the prophecy of the Flower Goddess and that she is the only one that can save the world of Makayra. Jason was the only human that Lily could confide in about her impending transition to the Goddess of Makayra. As crazy as the idea sounded to her it was through Jason’s caring and understanding that she was able to come to terms with her fate and begin to grasp the idea that her life as she knew it would soon come to an end. Both James and Lily seemed content in spending what little time they had to get to know each other better. Their hope was that once she transformed into the Goddess she would either be able to go back in forth between Makayra and earth or bring Jason over to Makayra to live with her
The book had a cliff-hanger ending. The author spent a lot of time in this book world building for this series. I am a little curious to see what happens in the next book with Lily and Jason and how Lily copes in her new role as Goddess.

I cried, worried, felt anger and disgust, worried some more, felt despair then hopefulness and finally I was awestruck at this author’s ingenious story-telling ability.
This is a story which depicts scenes of abuse, slavery, and dubious consent. The prologue is a tear-jerker. If you make it past the disclaimer, sit back & buckle up. You’re about to take a plane ride to Eleu, also known as the Island of Kink.
Grace Warner is a submissive who is bored with safe, sane and consensual play kink. She wants to be truly owned by a man. Ever since her best friend off-handedly mentions Eleu, Grace has been obsessed with thoughts of moving there. Eleu is an island where there are no human rights for the slaves. Once you enter the island you give up your citizenship and all your rights. That’s it. Once you agree to move there you become your master’s property in every sense of the word.
I was so worried for Grace as she was contemplating her decision to move the Island of Kink. Her best friend, Lainey tries to no avail to convince Grace to find a Master in the real world. But after a year-long “courtship” with Lucas Stone, Grace is convinced that moving is the only way she can be happy. But how sure can you be about someone you’ve only known through chat and web-cam?
Fast-forward 8months into Grace’s life on Eleu. I was horrified and disgusted by Grace’s living situation. She was kept nude and chained in Lucas’ dungeon under the most heinous conditions. She had been brutalized both physically and sexually in the vilest ways possible. I felt angry at Lucas’ relentless assaults to strip Grace of her soul.
“Tell me you’re mine, you worthless slut.” Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes. “This slut is yours, Master.” Only because it’s what he wants to hear. She had to hold onto that thought and repeat it in her mind so she wouldn’t forget. Her body may have submitted to him, but she hadn’t yet lost her mind. ~ Lucas & Grace
Asher Collins lost his slave Darcy during an unfortunate night of punishment. He has mourned her for a year but his need to own another woman has re-emerged and he soon seeks to buy another slave. He sees Grace at a showing and immediately feels a sense of compassion and lust towards her. He seeks atonement for Darcy’s death and feels that he can redeem himself by bringing Grace back to life.
I became hopeful for Grace after Asher brought her home and patiently helps her overcome her nightmares and fears. He was the perfect hero and quite a merciful master. There was nothing that Asher would not do to keep her safe. He would kill for her.
“Grace, listen to me. I know you’re scared. You don’t have to feel any particular thing about any of this. So stop fighting with yourself. All of this is out of your control. I am taking what’s mine, but you can keep your heart. For now. You don’t have to give me everything, just your body. When your body trusts me, your mind will follow. Now open.” ~ Asher
Yes, Tender Mercies is erotica and there are slavery, rape, and disturbing themes but it’s also a compelling story about a woman’s psychological survival and the man who gets her through it and finds atonement along the way. Although Grace toiled in the depths of hell with the devil, she managed to survive it when her angel of mercy swooped down to rescue her.
As I mentioned earlier, I am in awe of Kitty Thomas’ storytelling abilities. I was deeply caught up in the psychological conditioning in her novel Comfort Food and was titillated by the training in Guilty Pleasures. But the plot twists and multi-layered characters in Tender Mercies have made this book another one of my favorites.

I love the cover on this book. The cover model is HOT! I want her body! But I’m here to review the book not the cover. ;-)
The book was a really good read. There was a load of sexual tension between the protagonists. I wanted them to have their Happily Ever After so badly.
Laney Parks is an assistant Art Director for Sinclair Corp. She hates her manager Mary-Knight who dumps all her work on Laney and then takes all the credit. The late nights and heavy work-load have taken its toll on Laney and she is more than ready for her 10 day Caribbean cruise with her boyfriend, Rob.
Nick Sinclair is the young CEO of Sinclair Corp, an advertising company started by his father. Sexy and super wealthy, Nick is a notorious womanizer who is used to getting what he wants. He has set his sights on getting a lucrative advertising contract with William Zelman’s company. When he finds out that Will is about to go on a cruise to celebrate his 13th wedding anniversary, he quickly claims that he too is celebrating a wedding anniversary. One small problem: Nick isn’t married.
A few days prior to leaving on her romantic cruise, Laney walks in on her boyfriend getting down and dirty with a fellow attorney from his law firm. Broken-hearted, Laney decides to go on the cruise by herself. Nick finds himself alone in the ship’s boarding line when the woman that was supposed to act as his wife decides at the last minute to bail on him. Laney just happens to be the person standing right behind him in line when Will Zelman calls out to Nick. Both he and Laney turn at the same time to see Will and Vivian Zelman. Nick insists Laney wave her hand to them and so begins their romantic cruise acting as husband and wife. Despite, not even knowing Laney, Nick convinces her to act as his play wife and help him get the contract with Zelman. In return, he is to pay Laney ten-thousand dollars and promote her to VP of Art Direction. Not a bad deal right?
This story was full of twists and turns as Laney and Nick acted as husband and wife in public but fought like cats and dogs in their suite. They also had competition with one of Nick’s rivals who were also pretending to be a married couple. But Cooper & Heidi seemed more interested in screwing Laney & Nick than each other. Laney tried to deny her strong sexual attraction towards Nick but he stubbornly kept pursuing her until she finally gave in. Warning: Steamy, hot sex scenes and Nick is very attentive!
After the cruise the couple goes their separate ways while they wait for William Zelman’s decision. Neither Laney nor Nick wants to admit that they may have actual feelings towards one another. Lacey doesn’t even cash the check that Nick sends her in payment for “services” as his wife. I liked this couple a lot and hoped that Laney would get over her heartache with Rob and Nick would get over his playboy mentality so they could be together. You’ll have to read the book to see if these two get their HEA!

Eternal Rider is the first novel that I have read by Larissa Ione and what a great introduction to her world. This is the first book in her Lords of Deliverance series. The four Horsemen are: Reseph (Pestilence), Ares (War), Limos (Famine), Thanatos (Death). These siblings are the product of a onetime sexual encounter between Lilith, a succubus demon and Yenrieth, a good angel. The brothers are sent to live in the human world while Limos is kept in Sheoul with her mother Lilith.
The brothers find out they are not human when demons rise up and try to use them against humans as they spread terror all over earth. After witnessing the murders of their human families and the destruction of their lands, the siblings rage war against the demons. Unfortunately, they manipulated and used humans to help them fight the demons. Because of their selfish disregard for human life and almost bringing about the end of mankind, the siblings are punished. They are charged as the keepers of Armageddon. Each is given a seal. If they defend their seals until the prophecy in the Bible comes to pass – they will save their own souls and mankind. But if they allow their seals to be broken prematurely they will turn evil and initiate the ultimate battle between good and evil.
In Eternal Rider we are introduced to Ares who is the Lord of War. He’s a sexy seven foot tall Alpha male who is still scarred from losing his wife and children to demons centuries ago. He’s a born leader and warrior who because of his seal is attracted to battlefields and fighting. His presence amongst humans incites anger and violence within them so he cannot mingle with them for long.
Cara Thornhart is a human who gets drawn in accidentally when a dying dog is brought to her home for treatment. This “dog” unbeknownst to her is really a hellhound from Sheoul. After saving his life with her special gift of healing the hellhound or Hal as she names him, bonds himself to her and so begins her journey into the underworld. Hal is soon kidnapped by a fallen angel named Sestiel who is the keeper of Ares’ agimortus. If Sestiel is killed then Ares’ seal will break and he will become War.
Ares is able to track Sestiel to Cara’s home but not before he escapes with the hellhound. As Cara is now bonded to Hal and can sense where he is, Ares decides to take her home and use her to track the hellhound and angel. In the beginning, Cara is just a means to an end for Ares. But then his agimortus is transferred to Cara before Sestiel’s death and it becomes a race against time to find another fallen angel that can carry the agimortus before it kills Cara.
There was plenty of action and violence in this book but it was balanced nicely with the romance between Ares and Cara. They developed feelings for each other slowly but it was a slow burn that culminated into some hot, sexy love scenes. Ms. Ione did an impeccable job of world-building and introducing us to the numerous cast of characters both new and old. As a new reader I was able to follow the story without feeling like I was missing out on any back story from her Demonica stories. I’m looking forward to the next installment, Immortal Rider which is due out in December 2011.

Sins of the Flesh was a different type of read for me. I’m not a science fiction fan but the sci-fi elements in this book were intriguing. Twenty-eight year old, Caterina Shaw is a world famous cello player. She has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor that has caused her to go blind. While she is resigned to the fact that she will die soon, the chronic excruciating pain becomes unbearable and leads her to seek experimental treatment. She signs up for a human trial study at Wardwell Labs where they specialize in gene therapies for the terminally ill. After six months of therapy, Caterina is no longer in pain and has her vision back but she is now on the run for the murder of one of the scientists that was treating her.
Mick Carrera is an ex Army Ranger and security consultant who is hired by the murdered doctor’s business partner to find Cat and bring her in dead or alive. While researching both Caterina and Wardwell Labs, he starts to question Cat’s guilt. Mick begins to wonder if the murder was pre-meditated and becomes suspicious of the man who hired him. Mick finds Cat but not before another gunman tries to kill them. Mick catches up to Cat and he realizes that she is no longer completely human. Leaking green fluorescent blood, Caterina now has super-human strength, camouflaging skin and animal-like senses. It’s a race against time to keep Cat alive as her body is shutting down from all the foreign DNA that has been used to treat her.
I liked both Mick and Cat a lot. Their relationship was slow-building but when they gave into the attraction and sealed the deal it was hot. Mick started out a little cold and detached with Cat but while keeping her safe from Mad Dog and the Wardwell lab he developed a protective and loving side. Both characters had Mexican-American backgrounds and I enjoyed the snippets of Spanish dialogue between the protagonists and Mick’s family. This story is filled with action, mystery and romance plus a nice lesson on GFPs, gene therapies and DNA replication. So, this is one I would recommend to sci-fi, romance junkies. I enjoyed this book and will be reading the next one in the Sin series. I give Sins of the Flesh 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Please take notice of the warning in the Goodreads blurb. This book is an extremely dark love story. There is nothing beautiful about it except for the protagonists. Anyone that is uncomfortable with anything besides romantic sweet love stories should not read these books. These characters are really dark and this “love” story is pretty twisted. But if you’re ready to step outside your comfort zone, buckle up and take a ride into this “Miserable Love Series.”
Devil’s Descent I: purgatory starts in the middle of Julian and Lily’s story. Julian Douglas has chased 21 year old, Lily Walker to Montreal, Canada. Lily has been on the run for 2 years, ever since she was expelled from the town of Vickery Hill, Georgia. Lily is the former Resurrector of this secret town that is inhabited by twelve families of mixed human and vampire lineage.
When Julian shows up at her apartment Lily is both shocked and relieved to see him. Though she knows she should make him leave, Lily’s sick need for her vampire lover has her submitting to him all over again. Lily is so obsessively in love with Julian that she allows him to physically and emotionally torture her. Beatings, drowning, forced orgies, infidelity - it doesn’t matter what twisted, humiliating things Julian subjects her to, Lily always comes back for more. Julian is a sick, sadistic bastard who gets pure joy out of breaking Lily down. He knows that she craves the violence and disturbingly she enjoys it. But Lily also yearns for Julian’s love only he doesn’t seem capable of giving it to her.
”Time has proven to me that I’m not worthy of sustaining love, only destroying it. That’s what I do. That’s all I am…all I’ll ever be. I won’t survive love. I’d rather be dead than know I’m in love with this pet.” ~ Julian
Julian and Lily have a love hate relationship with each other. As a reader I had those same feelings for these two characters. I wished both of them would just finish each other off. But at the same time I was completely captivated by their perverse obsession with one another. Oh and the sex scenes were jaw-dropping, twisted goodness. Claudia D. Christian is a gifted storyteller who draws her readers into this warped and miserable tale. As I said before this is an intensely dark read but I found myself wanting to know more about these complex characters. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this Miserable Love Series. I give Devil’s Descent I: purgatory 4 out of 5 stars. ...more

Raziel introduces himself as one of the 20 fallen angels. They live in a hidden world named Sheol. Their enemies are the Nephilim who were sent by the archangel, Uriel to destroy the Fallen. The Fallen are cursed to spend eternity watching one mate after another die and to become blood eaters. The Nephilim’s curse is to spend eternity devouring flesh while reining terror and death upon the living. In exchange for an uneasy peace with Uriel the Fallen work as Death-takers ferrying human souls to their destinies.
Allie Watson is a smart, feisty, sensitive, hot tempered heroine. She is an atheist who writes snarky biblical murder mysteries. Say what? That might be the reason why she was destined to spend eternity in hell but then again maybe not. Raziel is a gorgeous, strong, stubborn hero with beautiful iridescent cobalt blue/black wings. Allie and Raziel get under each other’s skin and their banter is very entertaining. And the love scenes were so pretty! After one of these scenes Raziel unfurls his wings and wraps them around their bodies and the scene was so sexy and made me shiver and swoon!
Despite their really deep connection, Raziel stubbornly denies his true feeling for Allie but it only delays the inevitable. Turns out the Fallen encounter their mates when the women are still young girls. They watch over and protect the girls until they are ready to be taken to Sheol to be mated. Allie and Raziel see each other for the first time when she is seven years old and then again when she is thirteen. But after losing several mates during his existence, Raziel has sworn off all women and lives a life of celibacy. He ignores fate and does not go to Allie when she’s ready.
Fast forward 17 years – Raziel meets up with Allie again moments before she is to be hit by a bus. He does not recognize her. But in the split second that he realizes that she is to be condemned to hell he reaches out and pulls her back. When Allie is brought to Sheol no one wants her there. They all suspect she may be a demon or witch sent by Uriel to infiltrate them. But little do they know that there is actually a traitor among them.
The story is told in first person by Allie and Raziel. It was great to be able to get into the heads of both characters. Even better, both Raziel and Allie can read each other’s thoughts as well. This leads to some humorous dialogue and made me connect with the characters even more. Kristina Douglas did a wonderful job creating this secret world of fallen angels. She does a superb job weaving in the back story and the pacing & flow of the story were perfect. I really enjoyed this book! I’m giving The Fallen: Raziel 4 out of 5 stars.
