Ok(deep breath), for some strange reason, I've never really been drawn towards the Lux series by Jennifer Armentrout.... (Waits for firing squad)
Phew! So far so good. Anyway, moving on, I don't know why that series doesn't give me the fuzzies and that sense of being on a roller coaster ride that I get from reading Jennifer's other books. So when I began OBSESSION I wasn't very enthusiastic about it.
How quickly that changed.
OBSESSION drove me insane. Seriously. At one point, I was literally clawing my face for a good 5 minutes till I finished reading a particularly nerve-wracking bit. Me reading the book-definitely not pretty.
So far, we've only seen the Arum from the Luxen's point of view and I have to say, I didn't like them at all. But boy does OBSESSION change that...and how! The plot is so intense, racy, strong that it keeps you in the edge of your seat at all times!
Ok, I just re-read that last statement and it sounds like I'm talking about a guy. One guy in particular-Hunter. God, even saying his name makes me feel giddy. Yet again, Jennifer has created a fantastic male character that is sure to leave girls everywhere swooning. An Arum hired by the DOD(a branch of the government responsible for handling extraterrestrial matters) to assassinate certain troublemaking Luxen, Hunter and several of his fellow Arum brethren have no qualms in taking out their sworn enemies. Intact, they revel in it. But Hunter's loyalty to the DOD and even to his own race is tested once he meets Serena.
Serena's case is definitely one of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Her best friend has the misfortune of stumbling upon a couple of Luxen plotting and working their glow worm mojo, hence, she must be silenced. But she passes on whatever she saw and heard to a very confused Serena who obviously, is skeptical and thinks her BFF has gone totally cuhrazaybags. Serena does realise the truth when she sees her best friend murdered in front of her, but now, she's a threat too. Hence, the DOD steps in-not out of fondness for Serena-but because the Luxen have directly disobeyed them once and they can't let them do it again and also because they need to know whatever information Serena has received as it might be important in the whole alien-human political scenario. So, Serena is caught up in a pissing contest between the DOD and the Luxen and her life is in danger.
Enter Hunter. He has been appointed by the DOD to babysit Serena and ensure that she doesn't get killed. It's a job he thinks is easy enough as long as the 'human' follows his orders. But Serena isn't a subservient human. Girlfriend hates being ordered around by anyone-and anyone does include a hulking alien assassin, however dangerous he may be.
But despite the fact that they infuriate each other to no end, they do share some SIZZLING chemistry. What remains to be seen is whether Hunter can keep Serena safe from the relentless Luxen or will her fate be like that of her friend? Read to find out!
I really really did enjoy reading this novel. I loved the fact that we get the Arum's point of view about the Arum-Luxen history. The plot was very interesting and I was on tenterhooks on every page! I especially LOVED the scenes between Hunter and Serena. The effort it takes on his part to rein in his lust because he genuinely doesn't want to hurt her is soul-stirring. The fact that Serena loves Hunter for who he is, without judgement is a beautiful lesson in acceptance. But tenderness aside, their passion for one another burns with the heat of a thousand suns and it is scorching.
Without a doubt, OBSESSION completely surpassed my expectations. Seems like Jennifer is getting better with every book! How does this series stand in comparison to the Lux series and the Covenant series? Well, in my opinion the hierarchy goes something like this: Covenant > Arum > Luxen
Please note that this book is written for an older audience. It is definitely NOT YA. So, do pick up this book if everything I wrote above entices you, because it is definitely worth it. Enjoy! ...more

The Vampire Academy series was an excellent read. It fulfilled every requirement that I look for in a YA Paranormal series. When I heard that Richelle Mead was writing a spin-off with Sydney as the main character, to be honest, I wasn't really interested (I can almost hear the fans gasp in outrage XD)...until I found out that Adrian was in it.
Adrian was my favorite male character in Vampire Academy, and that holds true for Bloodlines as well. His witticisms are what save the dialogue from becoming dreary. Also, the banter between Sydney and Adrian was the one of the things that I loved about the book. Despite the fact that I love this pairing, I was a little let down because it seemed too predictable and was very uninspired. However, based on how Bloodlines wrapped up, I can't wait to see what's in store for this couple.
Another aspect of the book that I liked was that the focus was not entirely on the vampires, but on the Alchemists. It was very interesting to read about Sydney's background and you understand why she behaves the way she does in the books. I like her character, but if you compare her to Rose, Rose would win hands-down. The plot of the novel was quite intriguing, albeit predictable. However, it was quick-paced and the narrative was well-written.
All in all, Bloodlines was a well-written novel. I definitely enjoyed it! Things are going to get very interesting in 'The Golden Lily,' seeing that a certain character is back. Die-hard fans of the Vampire Academy series are going to be thrilled with this twist in the tale.
I am very excited to see how the series progresses. Fans of Young Adult Paranormal books will enjoy this book too! However, I would recommend reading the Vampire Academy series first, in case you haven't read it already. ...more
