The story begins with the women meeting each other through a book club. Some have known each other before, others are strangers, but they all have something in common: a willingness to keep forcing their way forward in spite of the hardship and limitations in their lives. Are their friendship progresses, I felt myself drawn deeper into their lives, laughing and crying with them as they moved through the usual stages of hope and despair, and everything in between. Even though I could relate to all characters, I probably liked Nancy and Emma best because they seemed like real heroes and fighters. Their voices were so strong I could picture them before my eyes, and Nancy's love struggles are something everyone will experience at some point in their lives to some extent. I know I have.
What stroke me as the most impressive part about this book though is the writing. I think Maureen Mullis is a terrific author with a strong ability to capture real-life character and convey it into fiction. Emotions were palpable on every page, making me feel as though I was there, experiencing what these women experienced. A very enjoyable and thought-provoking read. This is one book I would thoroughly recommend and would read over and over again....more

I thought this book was fantastic and couldn’t put it down. The author has introduced a plethora of new elements that kept me glued to my screen. I loved the twists and turns and the spine-chilling thriller parts I didn’t see coming. The ending left me eagerly awaiting the third installment. All in all, this is a must-read, well-written book that I’d recommend to young adult and adult readers. ...more
