Immediately upon finishing BK#1 in this series Twin-Bred I asked Karen if there would be a BK#2 and when would it be available? So I was pleased to be asked to actually read this book very early on in it's life. In fact I was so lucky when Karen asked me to beta read the book! I only saw the cover after reading the book so I can't give an honest "first impression" of the cover prior to reading it. So I'll give my opinion from the after I've read the book prospective. I like the use of the wormhole, it's a very large part of the second book. A lot hinges on the wormhole. There's even the possibility everything will end with the wormhole. that entering the wormhole will spell the end for everyone. So featuring it on the cover is a good choice. I like the simplicity of the title & Author name font, as well as their placements. So do I have anything negative at all to say about the cover? Mmm the only thing I aren't so very keen on is the block black parts, as a lot of self published authors seem to use this style. I would have rather had a plain black surrounding or just the whole wormhole and what surround it. Would I pick this up from a book shelf? Honestly yes but more to do with the fact I've read book one. The wormhole would attract me to this cover. So the book literally picks up as the other left off. Mara is one again "in charge" even though it wasn't what she wished. The Twin Bred have kind of made her their leader even though she didn't want the role. The Tofa host mothers play a larger role in this book working together over some fairly political issues that have arisen. Then there's the issues of the murder that occurred in the last book. I won't go into detail as to do so would give spoilers for possibly both books. I did find some of the more political issues a little harder to take in, retain and understand, but then just as you are thinking I'll never understand this everything becomes much clearer. My favourite parts of the book took place on the "mission" So is a new planet found? If one is found are there inhabitants? Are they friendly? Could that planet's inhabitants accept them settling there too? Would the planet even be suitable for them to live on? What if the planet already has conflict? Should they try to help? Or leave well alone and just try to find another planet? Yes this may seem like a lot of questions its the way I want to show you the possibilities for what does/can happen this book, hopefully without giving away spoilers. My most favourite character is Jak-rad, and I'd love a novella to know more of what happens to him. Though I'd still like another book to find out how the mission comes to its conclusion and how and if life goes on for the Twin-Bred. So did I enjoy the book? Yes on the whole I did. there were times I was a little confused by things in the book, but everything does become clear. Would I recommend the book? If you read book one you must read this one!! Would I read a third book or some novellas? I would yes, I'd love more about Jak-rad and Randy. There are also still things I want to know about the possible new planet too. Would I read other books by Karen A Wyle? Yes, I already have actually!(less) | Notes are private!

As dystopian is my favourite genre I of course agreed immediately. In fact I was so looking forward to it, that I put my current read on hold to read the novella. I was given this book in exchange for my honest review. This book has been a really difficult one to review for me, as I loved Jen's other book Shadow's Of Time so had high expectations of this book The Island. I like the cover, it is in fact a scene described in the book. I like the font of the title and the little scrolly underneath it as well as the "a dystopian novella" which is also really good as it informs the reader that this is in fact a novella. The authors name is at the top of the book and is well placed and does not interfere with the flow of the cover. So would I pick this book up from a store shelf? Yes definitely! I find the cover attractive, and the fact it plainly tells us what genre it is in too, The blurb gives a great description of the book, and would further entice me into wanting to read the book. This is the Author's first attempt at the dystopian genre and I have to say on the whole I did enjoy it. I loved the setting and basis of the story. The only thing I didn't like was the Star Wars references . .. I don't think they were really needed. To me they took the genre in a more quirky direction. I love the characters of Leia and Luc and the basic plot. the pace and writing style is great. The book really didn't need the quirkiness of the star wars references in any way. It was a much better book without those. The book in the story which connected the Star Wars references could have just been an ancient book with its own rules. The whole parents and virus theme was strong enough to stand alone without any of the Star Wars references. Had I known about the Star Wars references, I admit, I would have been put off reading it. So did I enjoy the novella? On the whole yes, I just think it could have been even better without certain references. Would I recommend the novella? Yes but more in a quirky dystopian genre than a recommendation to a straight dystopian fan. Would I read more dystopian by Jen Minkman? Definitely the roots of a fantastic story are there and I did enjoy the book. I do enjoy Jen's writing a lot. Would I read other work by Jen Minkman? Definitely, I would give anything Jen has written a go! I hope I have not offended her in my honest appraisal of her book,. I do not mean to be negative, I just felt the book could have been even better.(less) | Notes are private!

This Nail Art Sourcebook states that it gives "Over 500 designs for fingertip fashions" which strictly speaking it does that I suppose . . .but . . .it's not what I thought it would be. From the description, I admit to thinking that this book would be a detailed step by step guide with illustrations. That is not the case, so I was initially disappointed. Then I started flicking through the Sourcebook, and it is a great collection of nail designs. I'd describe the book as a sourcebook of illustrations. The book supplies inspirational designs for you to attempt to re-create, ranging from fairly simplistic looking designs to the more elaborate, elegant, and intricate designs. The book is split up into sections, such as floral designs, graphis designs and jewelled designs etc etc. At the beginning of the book there's a section on the care of your nails. there's details for a conditioning manicure, as well as information of nail paints and nail art tools. In these sections there are some basic instructions for use. I just think it's a shame that there aren't more step by step instructional's in the book. Will the images always be "in fashion" probably not all of them, like anything in the "fashion related" industry, trends do change. Having said that there is usually always a call for a "retro" fashion so I feel the sourcebook would always be of some use to it's purchaser/reader/user. At the end of the sourcebook there is a section headed "Directory" which is split into two sections UK and US. I suppose this should make the book appeal to a wider audience by not limiting it to favour just one country. There is also a Suppliers Section, Internet Tutorials And Videos, Courses and Magazines. These end sections are all useful in there own way. So do I like the book? Yes, as I said it's a great source of inspiration, it's just a tad frustrating to try and work out how to re-create the deigns when some simple instructions would have been so easy to add and a brilliant addition to the book. Would I recommend the book? I would recommend it for inspirational purposes for perhaps a qualified manicurist, or a very talented experienced nail art hobbyist. This book is not for complete beginners or total amateurs. Would I purchase items for Barry's site Presents For Men? Possibly as there are some great little gift idea's for Father's Days, Birthdays and of course Christmas Stocking Fillers. Would I purchase another book such as this one? Maybe I would, it is a lovely presented book, a great tool to show the nail art possibilities out there. Would I buy another one, Mmm maybe if it had different enough images to this one or had more step by step directions included within it.(less) | Notes are private!

MY REVIEW My daughter received this for review from K-Teen and as I had just recently read Chasers I decided to snag this one as soon as it arrived and read and review it as my daughter is in the process of reading some other titles at the moment. So the cover, fits very well with Bk#1, the guy on the front presumably being Jesse in his hoodie with his head down. There's the New York skyline in the back ground to so the theme continues. The "Alone" series name is again featured and the series "logo" is actually explained within this book. I won't explain it as I think you should come across it within the context in the book. I love the byline again, this time it say's, "The smoke has cleared . . . Now they can see you...." So would I pick this book up from a book store shelf? Yes The blurb gives us the bleak outlook that Jesse and any fellow survivors have to face on a daily basis. The blurb therefore describes the book very well,so yes I'd say the blurb works. So Jesse has seen signs of other survivors, will he ever find any. The book starts with Jesse in someones home watching a video they have made. the person on the video is called Felicity, and she's gone in search of the "friendly Chasers" the ones who still seem to have some humanity, that don't chase you down to drink your blood. So Jesse leaves a note before heading out into New York City again, with a time and place to meet up with Felicity. So the drama and action continue in this book, Jesse does see other humans, but doesn't always get the help or comfort he wants from them. I did enjoy this book, but it's so difficult to say much about it without giving away spoilers for it or book one! In this book we meet new characters, Felicity, Rachel, and Caleb. For who they are and what happens to them you'll have to read the book! There are new dangers to be faced in this book, there's the Chasers, the "virus/toxin", and the unexploded bombs too. If an unexploded bomb goes off it re-releases the "virus/toxin" into the air, so there's a renewed risk of being turned into a violent blood thirsty Chaser . . .Things aren't easy for Jesse, will he ever escape the horror that is New York City? Will he ever make it home? Does home even still exist anymore? How far has the destructive "virus/toxin" travelled across america or the world. So did you enjoy the book? Yes! Would you recommend the book? To all those that love post apocalyptic tales yes. Will I read a Bk#3? Yes, I don't just want to know what happens to Jesse and his friends I now need to know lol! Would I read other books by James Phelan? Mmm yes, of course I really like his writing style.(less) | Notes are private!

You know when a series is so good you want it to go on forever, that's what I felt with this series. So I had previously tried to get hold of a copy of this prequel novella but had thought it only available in the US. Imagine my surprise and joy when I found it available at Amazon.co.uk!! So I immediately purchased this novella. The cover is really good and totally represents the novella perfectly. there's the lines of genetic markers as well as a little sprouting plant of some sort. The title and Author name fonts, style and placement all work well. So is this novella designed to be read before or after the trilogy? Honestly I think it could be read before, after or during the reading of the other books. I of course read it after the trilogy. The prequel sets the scene and explains how the whole famine and disaster occurred. As the blurb says there are a few f words in there but it is emotional adults we are talking about in this prequel. So adults do swear, I'd say the swear words are minimal really, and always well in context. We meet all the main players in the early stages of the soon to be catastrophe. The prequel fits well with the series. It's as well written as the actual books are. It is a decent length for a novella too. Not all novella's need to be read but I'd advise reading this one, it kind of finishes the whole series off and ties up some loose ends and perhaps questions such as "but how did this/that happen?" too. So did I enjoy the prequel novella? Yes, definitely worth reading. Gave the main characters/players in Eden and diaspora another dimension. You see how difficult some of the decisions such as who survived in Eden or diaspora and who where left to their own devices were made and the emotions and motivations behind them. Would I recommend reading it? Yes, this prequel novella is definitely an important part of the whole story. It's literally how the decline began! and Who was behind it. Would I read more in this series? Sadly there is no more books for me to read. I would definitely read a spin off novella, perhaps set a year or two down the line. Especially if it concerned the news that was revealed on the last page of Emergence. Cryptic I know but I am a "no spoiler" reviewer where ever possible! Would I read more books by Rachel E Fisher? Definitely! I love her style of writing and the pace of it too.(less) | Notes are private!

As I had read Colors Like Memories, I wanted to read this one then. However, when I realised The Chemistry Of Fate was set prior to Colors Like Memories I was a little unsure if it would work for me or not. So to the cover I like the magical feel of the cover and the colours of cover too. Upon reading the book you realise the "creature" on the cover is in fact Arianne in her Sary form, complete with those gorgeous translucent wings. I find the font of the title and author and their placements are pleasing enough too. the font is loopy or cursive, the way Tom writes, which also harks back to the book plot. the only thing I am unsure of is the snowflake images on the cover. Although they are nice enough and yes they fit in with the snow happening in the book, I don't believe they are 100% necesary. So would the cover alone make me pick up the book? I think on cover alone, discounting the fact I've read part of the series, ...yes I would pick it up to read the blurb and learn more about the book. So Arianne or Ari as she prefers to be called is on assignment. Her assignment is Tom. So why is Ari checking out what Tom knows about the Sary and if he is a danger to exposing them? Well Tom's grandfather wrote a journal and after he died Tom got some of his things and took the journal to read. The journal is written by Tom's grandfather, it talks all about the Sary. So how come Tom's grandfather survived with knowledge of the Sary? Well Tom's Grandfather . . . .. well you'll need to read the book to find out more about the journal in it. The problem the Sary have with Tom is whether he believes what is written in his grandfathers journal or not. Then there's the whole problem of whether Tom has any other evidence and what he may or may not do about it. So Ari is tasked to find out exactly whats going on and report back for the Island to decide how to progress, and what action to take. Ari has to get close to Tom . . . . the only thing is she starts to like Tom, I mean really really like Tom. What is the Sary on The Island find out? Then Tom starts to become suspicious of who/what Ari is, which is even more worrying as if a Sary reveal his true self or her true self, and/or their wings, the price the Sary pays is the loss of those wings. The loss of the wings is the end of life as a Sary. For when a Sary loses their wings they become mortal. This book is full of great information about the Sary, we meet more sary, and discover that there are "rogue Sary" who think it their job to become the deliverer of fate. So we learn some of the Sary politics in this book, perhaps setting the scene for more Sary politics in futures books too. There's also a little romance in this book too. So it has love, friendship, Sary controversy, action and a little mystery too. So did I enjoy the book? Yes, I did enjoy it. Would I recommend this book? Yes, I'm hoping its part of a longer series, where perhaps we will learn much more about the Sary and The Island. Would I read more of this Series? Yes I think I would, though I would want to know more about the Sary, how they come about and how they live on the Island. Maybe there could be a Sary "war" about who should lead them after the certain things that happened in this book. Would I read more by Meradeth Houston? Yes, I would, I love her style of writing and the books though they have action and angst do also contain happiness too.(less) | Notes are private!

I will admit I have managed to read the Asylum Interview novellas all in the wrong order but, to be truthful it hasn't really mattered. I have still enjoyed the novellas. I have loved learning more about the characters. The cover I admit to not been as keen on. The female on the front could be either Trixie or Jo. We see the protective side of Gage when it turns out his ex-girlfriend Jo is being mis treated by her new nest master Chester. As Jo has returned to town there are no spaces left in her old nest. there are only a number of spaces allowed since the government brought in certain rules and regulations to keep the vampires in line. So when Michelle, the leader of Jo's old nest tells Jo there's no room at the moment. Jo is forced to join the other nest in town which is ruled by a rather more sadistic, cruel and somewhat weird Chester. Gage is upset, disappointed and enraged when Trixie lets him know how Chester is mistreating Jo, his first reaction is to nip around and rip Chester's head off! Then he listens to reason and decides to be more careful for Jo's sake and use a bit of magic to help. I like all the characters in this series that I have come across so far, the protective, kind, generous yet hard, tough tattoo artist Gage, the gentle giant troll Bronx and the cute little . . .well we don't officially know what she is yet so Trixie. we do know Trixie is hiding from someone or something as she is using glamour to disguise her appearance. Even though Gage can see through the glamour he keeps quiet, like Gage I am sure we will hear Trixie's Problem soon. So now we have met those that work at The Asylum tattoo parlour . . and some of Gage's friends too in Parker, Jill and Jo. So did I enjoy this novella? Yes, once again, I really did. Would I recommend? Yes, though with a warning these novellas so far give me the feeling this series is more adult themed and aimed. Will I read more of this Series? I already have and yes I hope to read even more! Would I read other books/novellas by Jocelynn Drake? Yes I think I would try other books by her. (less) | Notes are private!

After reading Blood by Midnight which is bascially three novella/short tales in the form of a small anthology, I decided I would like to read more by Jocelynn Drake. The result was me having read The asylum Interviews in the wrong order really, but then it didn't really matter, they were still enjoyable to read and still made sense. The cover depicts Parker, the unfortunate guy, a good friend of Gage. the cover also shows the unique, tattoo Parker has too. A tattoo that turns out to be somewhat more trouble than was intended. As the novella's are title "The Asylum Interviews", they are actually the way that the tattoo artists came to work at the tattoo parlour called Asylum. This particular novella is about Bronx. The novella tells how Gage came to meet Bronx and basically how Bronx ended up working with Gage. This novella is quite funny as it features a tattoo that goes a little wrong, it turns out to be much stronger than at first thought. I like the east going character of Gage, the warlock in training that has escaped the cruel Towers, so long as he doesn't use magic, other than in self defense. If Gage steps out f line Gidean from the dreaded Towers appears and cruelly punishes him for stepping out of line. So did I enjoy the novella? Yes, it made me want to read more about the characters. Would I recommend? Yes, though will point out these seem to be more adult themed books, with incubi and succubi featuring in them. Will I read more of this Series? I already have and intend to read the full length books when possible. Will I read more by Jocelynn Drake? So far all the short tales and novella's I have read have been part of The Asylum Series but I do intend to look at other series by Jocelynn though I do admit that The Asylum Series is the one that appeals most at the moment.(less) | Notes are private!

I also wanted to try reading work by these authors too, and I think a collection of short stories that this book is, is an ideal way of doing just that. The cover is dark and mysterious, leaning towards being scary which totally suits the time of year this book aims to be read at. The title Blood by Moonlight fits each of the three stories as there is blood in each and everyone of them. I think the authors names being on the cover in equal proportions is a good thing too, though I didn't particularly need the "best selling author" tag on there. Also I aren't particularly keen on the Avon books logo being on the cover either. There are three stories by three different authors in this collection. I decided to say a little about each story individually. Kind of like I review an Anthology. I should also state that I have not read anything by these authors before prior to this book. So first up was Of Monsters and Men by Jocelynn Drake, This one has werewolves, warlocks and elves in it. so a little to appeal to most paranormal fans. I aren't a fan of eves, pixies or even fae anymore as a lot of what I have read has seemed somewhat samey to me, with a few great exceptions of course. I did however really enjoy this short story in fact I am going to research and see if it perhaps was a spin off with characters from a series. I liked the relationship between warlock, elf and werewolf. You probably wouldn't think that they would mix, but in this story they do. Then there's the whole Summer court/Winter Court politics of the fae/elven races too. What more can I say I really enjoyed it. So did I enjoy this short tale? Yes. Will I be checking out more books by this author? Yes! Would I read a series connected to this short tale? Yes. Next up was The Ghoul Next Door by Terri Garey, This story had a witch, a warlock, and an interesting ghost witch too. I liked this story too, it centred around an old house that had been in a witches family for generations. Sadly the father of the last witch in the line had let greed overcome him and sold the witches inheritance of the house. The witch had tried on numerous occasions to purchase the house back but to no avail the male who was living in the house seemed determined to stay put where he was. He didn't reckon on the witch turning to fair means or fowl, or her having the help of the ghost of her witch grandmother. This one is quirky and has some humour too, with family politics also playing a part in the tale. So Did I enjoy this short tale? Yes, I did. Will I be checking out more books by this author? Yes I will. And finally Would I read a series connected to this short tale? Mmm that's more difficult as I just saw this as a more standalone tale but if there were further adventures of the characters in this tale then yes I think I would be very tempted to read more. Last in the mini anthology was Trick or Treathen by Caris Roane, This was a change of pace and kind of rather er racy in parts, though it did still have a story and a good plot that ran through the short tale too. as you know I dislike erotica where it is just pure erotica and no plot or story. I don't mind a little steam, but that's as far as I go in that direction. I like a plot to follow not reading about pure "bumping and grinding" all the time. anyhow as I was saying this tale, though short did have a plot and decent, interesting storyline to it. I liked both the main characters and their opposition to the Treathen bond. The Treathen bond is what I would describe as simply as possible as a soul mate bond between a vampire and a human. there's also plenty of Vampire politics in this book too. Where and how and when is it acceptable or deemed necessary for one vampire to intervene or interfere in another vampires business. In this book an "evil cruel vampire" has taken and bonded a girl, this girls sister approaches a more "humane vampire" to ask, try to coerce and then even demand his help in getting her sister back. That's if the sister, Britt isn't dead already. So there's plenty of action and drama going on in this tale,as the said hero would be rescuer sister and "humane" vampire kind of have this strong attraction to each other too, though they are both trying their best to fight this attraction. So Did I enjoy this short tale? Yes, I really did. I quite surprised myself enjoying it despite the steamy parts! Will I be checking out more books by this author? Yes, I really think I will, despite the steamy content. Would I read a series connected to this short tale? Once again, surprising myself and despite the steamy content, yes I would. I really liked the characters in the short tale. So to sum up, this is a great collection of three short tales, forming a mini anthology that showcases the three authors very well. The stories are so good that I would love for these short tales to be part of larger series, and I will definitely be looking up all three authors to check out more of their work. So Did I enjoy the book? Yes, definitely! Will I be checking out more books by these authors? Yes definitely! Would I read more about the characters in the individual tales? Yes I'd like to read more about them all, though I think the tale by Terri Garey may be a stand alone short tale, I could definitely imagine series containing all the characters in all the tales though, just more so with the tales by Jocelynn Drake and Caris Roane.(less) | Notes are private!

I find the cover appealing and it certainly fits in with the colourful covers of the Selection Series. The novella is basically the first small section of The Selection re-told from the point of view of Maxon - The Prince. I enjoyed reading the novella, it reminded me of all that I loved about The Selection and also aroused my impatience and need for the release of The Elite, which I am definitely looking forward to. I liked the point of view being from a male character and think it would also be interesting to read something from Aspen's point of view now that he is the guard watching over america whilst she stays at the Palace. So did I enjoy the novella? Yes, it was a nice re-taster of this series. Would I recommend it? Although I would say that it isn't absolutely necessary to read the novella, it is a nice and welcome addition to the series, so yes I guess I would recommend it and at 99p (price correct at time of review) it is a fairly reasonable price for a novella. Will I read more of this Series?Yes, please! Would I read other books by Kiera Cass? Yes I would definitely take a look at other books by her.(less) | Notes are private!

I...more MY REVIEW I received this e-arc from Edelweiss in exchange for my honest review. I'll start with the cover, it's a close up of, who I presume is Mia. I do like the cover, though my pet hate of someone quote on the cover is here again. I think review quotes, no matter who they are by should be on the inside or back of the cover or perhaps on a page at the start or end of the book. Personally these types of quote really do not influence me so much that I would buy a book just on the strength of them. On to a more positive note, I love a good byline! This one is "Freedom is the ultimate crime", though it works where it is placed on the cover it could have been placed where the quote about the book is. I do like the font of the Title and the authors name. So on the whole I do like the cover. Would I pick the book up from a book shelf? Yes I think I'd take a closer look. Then obviously as soon as I read the blurb I would be sold on this one to read, just as I was when I saw it on Edelweiss. I felt immediately drawn into the book and the story of "The Registry". All the way through the book Mia asks various people how "The Registry" came about, why was it created, when was it created and why did it still exist. The Registry is very sexist in that women are literally a commodity to be bought and sold. the women have no say who they marry they are basically sold to the highest bidder. The women really doesn't know who she will end up with, where she will live or how she will live. The father dictates how the female child/woman lives until they are of age to be sold to their husband. then the husband dictates how the woman thinks etc. When children are born, if it is a boy there is disappointment and the child is turned out of the family home and given to the government to raise in a communal home, until they are 13, then they have to earn a living, and finally at eighteen they have to join up and serve their country all without question. Which on the surface makes it sound like the males have things as bad as the females but once the males finish their service they are free to go about their lives as "heroes" that have served their country. They then have to make money to buy themselves a wife from The Registry. When a female is born it is seen as a great gift and loved and treasured and raised as sheltered as possible util she reaches the age for evaluation and being put on The Registry. The prettier and more subservient and uneducated the girl the higher price she will bring on The Registry. The females are expected to be great cooks, be able to sew, keep a house, be the perfect hostess and give birth to many daughters. The more daughters a man has the richer he will become. Once a female is placed on The Registry, she cannot stay on there for an unlimited time. After a certain length of time the government takes the unmarried women to become work slaves for the government. Also when a female does get sold, she leaves her old life behind and rarely see's any of her friends and family again. So that's the gist of the book. The girl stuck on The Registry with no interest is Whitney, the daughter of Mr Morrissey's farm manager. The girl who is sold to the highest bidder is Mia Morrisey. And the guy about to sign up for his service is Andrew, one of Mr Morrissey's farm hand workers. This book is action packed, it's also a really interesting read. What's even better is there's going to be a book 2! The book has really well described, to the point that you can visualise them characters. The people that Mia, Whitney and Andrew meet along their journey all have their own stories to tell. Another character who has many facets, is nasty but still interesting is Grant, the man who buys Mia and then proceeds to chase her and her companions. Grant is not a man to be messed with as different people along the way learn to their cost. He kills if you get in the way or are no longer of any use to him. What will he do to Mia? Who knows, sure he likes that she's beautiful, she would make a great trophy wife. He also likes that she has spirit, but he really wants to break that spirit too. Grant is ex military with plenty of money, access to weapons and men, which makes him a very dangerous man. So did I enjoy the book? Yes, loved it. Would I recommend the book? Yes to all ages and especially to those who love the dystopian genre. Would I read a BK#2? Yes please, I'd read it now if it was available. Would I read more by Shannon Stoker? Definitely.(less) | Notes are private!

Then there's the dove that Neima nurses as it has a broken wing. The couple in the forground of the cover could be Kenaan forcing his unwanted attentions on Neima, or I'd prefer to think that it's Neima, and Munzir's son Jorin in a loving embrace. The fonts and placing of the book title, series title and author are all well placed and fit well with the cover, leaving the actual cover to do the "selling" of the book. The blurb continues to "sell" the book so does it's job well. I sort of broke my own rule in that I say I don't read religious material. This book is literally based on the bible story of Noah's Ark. This story humanises the biblical story more by giving us characters and locations that are perhaps more readable. The story is told through the eyes of a young girl. You learn about the stubborness of the character of Noah, how he rules his family firmly, and to do as he says without question. We also have our main character who narrates the story as Neima, she is Noah's grand-daughter. So as we all know the story goes that Noah is "told" to build an Ark. So Noah sets about his task and manipulates and forces his sons & their families to help. He doesn't ask he demands they listen to him and do as he says. Naturally there are skeptics within the family as well as outside of it The family know better than to question Noah, but the villagers ridicule Noah and his family. One of the leaders of those in the village that oppose Noah is Munzir. No one believes that the rain will come as Noah says it will. Then when it does they blame Noah for building the Ark, saying he has cursed them. Munzir comes up with the idea of setting fire to and burning the Ark, though when he tries he cannot keep a fire torch lit long enough. Noah summons his family to the Ark. Then there's the torrential rain and the "living" on board the Ark, caring for and feeding all the animals that Noah ordered to be collected. This story also has the inter family politics, where one brother will agree with anything Noah says just to try and gain favour with Noah. Then there's the fact that Kenaan thinks he will marry Neima so thinks it acceptable to force unwanted kisses and grope her when he wishes. Then there's the friendships between Neima and Dreya her best friend, hoe does Dreya take the news that Kenaan will one day marry Neima when she herself covets him so much. There is also Jorin, son of Munzir who wants to be friends with Neima and perhaps more one day but his father would never stand for it, he hates to see Jorin even acknowledge Neima or any of Noah's family. So most of you will know the story of the Ark but this book also tells of the lives of the family aboard the Ark, how they cope with the dark, the movement of the Ark, caring for the animals and each other, as well as coping with what is happening outside their safe haven. There's also a stowaway on the Ark. Will Noah allow the stowaway to stay, as they are not of his family so were not chosen by the God who speaks to Noah? The ending leaves on a real cliffhanger. So did I enjoy the book? Yes, I really did. Although I knew the story of Noah's Ark, this has an even more human side, and deals with perhaps sides of the story you would not first think of, like the living conditions on the Ark. Would I recommend the book? Yes, it makes you think even more than the biblical story. Would I read Bk2? Yes I definitely want to read book 2. Would I read more by Stephanie Parent? Yes, I liked her concept with this book being from Neima's point of view, and I also liked Stephanie's writing style, which was an easy, medium pace.(less) | Notes are private!

So the blurb on Goodreads actually states that "This story is a contemporary romance in the New Adult genre." which I agree with to a point, that yes it would fit into that genre but I think maybe labeling as New Adult may put off some older generation readers, which would be such a shame as I believe this book is a brilliant read for a wide age range. Now the cover has a scenic view of what according to the book must be Madison Falls, it also has a male and female which fit the description of what I would imagine Grant Brady and Bella Clay to look like. So the cover fits the book in that way. However to me the cover suggests the book to be a contemporary romance for an older reader rather than one aimed at the New Adult age group. Would I pick this book up from a book store shelf? Yes but honestly I would be picking it up with a view to buying it for my mum rather than myself or a younger relative. To sum up I'd say I think perhaps the cover could do with a slightly more modern, younger vibe cover to appeal to the NA market. The blurb gives a great outline to the book and yes definitely made me want to read the book. It's basically the story of two sisters, the eldest Bella, and Lori. When their mother is killed by a drink driver they are put into care where they are passed from unsuitable home to unsuitable home. Naturally as the eldest Bella assumes the role of protector and takes it upon herself to draw the unwanted attentions from Lori to herself so ends up taking the brunt of the abuse. Years later to make ends meet and to help her sister Lori financially as she is now a single mother, Bella ends up taking a less than desirable job to make decent money, something she regrets everyday. Just as Bella is thinking her life cannot get any worse she receives a telephone call saying her sister has been killed in a car accident. Of course Bella is Lori's only relative and so now the sole guardian of little Ethan. Bella has a tearful journey to Madison Falls and the heartbreaking job of explaining to young Ethan what has happened to his mother. The rest of the book tells how Bella copes with this latest change in her life, how she takes this opportunity to escape from her past degrading job and become a mum to Ethan. There's so much more in this book but I believe you really should read it for yourselves, for me to say anymore would truly spoil the special, emotional experience of reading this book. The book has you smiling, sighing, scowling and sniffling into a tissue's too. I love the main characters of Bella, and Ethan and their relationship, the way fate has thrown them together and how they make a little family and life of their own. I also love the character of the honest, hard working, and non judgmental Grant. So did I enjoy the book? Yes, even more than I expected to. Would I recommend this book? I have already recommended it to my mum. Would I read a Bk#2? I think I would if there was one, though this one sort of wrapped up all the loose ends quite nicely so I doubt there will be. Would I read more by Rachel Hanna? I think I will yes, and I know I have discovered an Author my mum will love too, so I'm sure to be reading more titles by Rachel.(less) | Notes are private!

So when I knew there was a 1.5 novella available to read and Claire asked if I'd like to read it I jumped at the chance. Claire sent me a free copy in exchange for my honest review. The cover depicts Jon and Gayle in a quirky sassy pose, and has pictures of family behind which refers to the novellas main theme of "meeting the family" I like the font and style of the title, and authors name too. I also love the little byline of "Time to meet the family. . . " as like I said earlier in this post that is the one of the main themes. So the novella centres around the family of Jon Cripps, and starts with the thanksgiving dinner, which is a new concept as being from the UK it's something we don't have. Gayle is nervous about meeting Jon's parents and coming face to face with Jenny his sister after she walked in on them in the heat of passion. Gayle wonders or rather panics that Jenny will have told everyone about the incident even though Jon reassures her that won't be a problem. Then to worry Gayle even more Jon slips into the conversation on the way to his parents that their family friends will be there too who just so happen to be Thalia's parents. (Thalia is Jon's Ex girlfriend) Another theme going on through the novella is Gayle and Jon's relationship and where that is going. Gayle worries the relationship could be going to fast when she find a receipt from a jewellery store hidden in a crossword book in the Cripps bathroom and later discovers the puzzle book is in fact Jon's. I could go on and on but, I don't want to give up all the secrets of the novella. How can I sum it all up? I would say the book is all about relationships, Gayle & Jon's, Gayle's & her brother, Jenny & her boyfriend Scott, Jason (Jon's brother) & his somewhat stuck up girlfriend & Jason's best friend Tully. The list could go on so I suppose I could sum up by saying the book is about family & relationships. So did I enjoy the novella? Yes, loved it, though it made me want even more of Gayle & Jon! Would I recommend? Yes to all who have read The P.U.R.E Would I read more of this Series? Yes please I want to know how all the relationships work out. Would I read more by Claire Gillian? Definitely!(less) | Notes are private!

Upon reading the book you learn the scared female on the front cover is in fact Audrey, and when you learn the traumatic ordeal she underwent in a cabin in the woods you totally understand her fear. I think the cover represents the book really well, and would I pick it up from a book store shelf? Yes I think I would definitely pick it up to learn more. Now to the book, whilst Audrey is being held captive she begins to hear a voice in her head. she doesn't know if she is going mad due to her ordeal or if someone is truly communicating with her. The voice helps Audrey through her ordeal and when she is freed, the voice still speaks to her occasionally. Audrey naturally tells no one about the Voice as she doesn't want to appear more troubled or strange than she already is in other peoples view. Audrey hates that people look at her with pity, and the way her family look at her with pity and guilt, after all she had told her family about her attacker watching her and making her feel uneasy long before she was kidnapped. Unable to cope in the house she was abducted from she goes to stay with her young modern school teacher aunt Kate. Kate decides to keep Audrey's mind from her ordeal she should attend school so enrolls her and even gets the two guys next door that are Audrey's age to keep an eye on her. Caleb is outgoing, flirty, yet respectful and protective around Audrey. Justin seems to hate being around crowds, a bit of a loner yet is still around if and when Audrey needs his help. I really don't want to give away more of the story as it is a beautifully written book, that was an interesting read that lead you by the hand through the many emotions that Audrey feels. The Quote about the book that I have taken from the Goodreads book blurb is so totally true. This book tells the story of Audrey's journey where she has to heal mentally and physically, which takes a lot of courage. Probably an even bigger thing Audrey has to relearn the ability to trust those around her, even her family. So did I enjoy the book? Yes, yes, yes! Would I recommend the book? Yes I have recommended this book to my teen daughter and I think my mum would also read and enjoy the book. Would I read a Bk2? If there was one yes, but how the book ends I doubt there will be. Will I read more by Jennifer Anne Davis? Definitely, I will keep my eyes wide open for more future titles by her. I try not to compare books to each other but the feelings I felt throughout the book and afterwards did remind me of another fantastic book I have read and reviewed on my blog, called Read Me Dead by Emerald Barnes. So if you've read that book this is definitely for your reading tastes.(less) | Notes are private!

I really like the cover, there's the Titanic sinking in the centre of the page, with a picture of, I presume Christopher and Corinne at the top of the book, the bottom left I'd say is Corrinne's negro father. The bottom right to me has to be Molly Brown, or to lovers of all things Titanic the "unsinkable Molly Brown". I like the font and style and placement of the title and Author name, to me they fir the era of the titanic and the colours of the book are complimentary too. So on the strength of the cover would I pick up the book? Yes, it has Titanic on the over and i am always attracted to books on that subject. The blurb promises the story of the only black family on the Titanic. It promises to cover racial tension, as well as revealing and having to deal with family secrets. So yes I think I should really enjoy this one. Mmm sadly at the beginning I have to admit to ot being totally in love with this book and it's characters. Sure I like Corrinne who is travelling second class, and her burgeoning relationship with the first class nephew of the captain. Then there's Corrinne's sister and the problem she is carrying aboard the ship. I did like the way the racial tension was explored as not only white people being racist towards coloured people but the coloured people themselves being racist and totally un-trusting in their own way against white people. I loved the addition of the well known character from the Titanic of Molly Brown, I think if I could meet a woman from history she is one I would certainly choose. Well I've now read the rest of the book and yes the plot became more complicated and interesting however there were inconsistencies with the truth about what happened on the Titanic, such as I am not aware of Molly Brown's lifeboat capsizing, as it does in this book but all other things could have actually happened I mean who knows. I think my problem was i jumped to the conclusion that this would be based in fact, where as it is more a work of fiction. Sure there were facts about the ship in the book that a tour guide reels off on more than one occasion. There are a few people that were on the titanic mentioend as I said Molly Brown, Mr Harland and Captain Smith, so you get this authors insight into what she believes they were like.I did enjoy the relationship aspects in the book, where the real stories were. There's also the racial tension where at one point in the book Corinne is told "people like her should not be allowed on the ship let alone in first or second class" So did I enjoy the book? Once I got over the preconceived conception o what I thought the book was going to be and got quite into the book plot around the characters. The ending was "sweet". Having said all that I did end up enjoying the book. Would I recommend it? To the romance & saga type of genre lovers this would fit the bill perfectly. Would I read a BK#2? I think had the book let on a cliff hanger at the point the Carpathia rescued people, then ther could have bben a BK2 it could have picked up actually on the Carpathia, and gone on form there. Would I have read it? I think I would have given it a go yes. Would I read more by this Author? Yes I would give her other work a go. I am definitely going to look up the prequel novella to this book and will check out the other books. I think my mum will enjoy this author. I am being on the stingy side with the stars and to be honest i there were half stars it would be 3.5.(less) | Notes are private!

I read the book in as a mother of a once young teen, and as a book lover that also reads YA. The cover is really atmospheric, which fits in with daisy living in a cemetery. It also represents Daisy’s situation well, everything looking dark, lonely and bleak for her. The female on the cover depicting Daisy is a really good match and certainly what I imagined Daisy to look like, with the bright copper red hair. If anything on the negative she looks slightly older and more mature than I thought Daisy would. I like the fonts and placement of the title, series title and authors name, they are prominent enough to be seen yet do not take over the whole cover which is good. It is right that the main character in the book Daisy be “center stage” and prominent on the cover. The blurb tells us a little about what Daisy is going through and put that together with the fact you will have read The Morgan Sisters, The Ghost Of Josiah Grimshaw, you should be really wanting to know more about Daisy as she has a somewhat brief appearance in that book. Daisy is quite a complex character really but Suzy manages to keep things in the book simplistic enough for the age group she is aiming for. The language is kept easily readable and not taxing to maximise the enjoyment of the younger reader. I would say the books are aimed at the younger end of the teen market, who can be an extremely critical crowd. The book flowed well and it did the job it set out to do which was to give us some background on Daisy and her life before she inevitably joins the Praxos Academy. There are mentions of songs in the book which I think will appeal to some of the younger generation. I did know the Coldplay song and I think linking the book title with the song being sung a few times in the book is quite clever. My only worry is will the young teens like it or will they think it a bit too far to go or twee. The teens these days are really mature for their ages perhaps too much so. Though I think the book will be loved by the tweens before they become cynical teens. As an adult reading the book, the language, words used and sentencing was quite basic making it an easy read. Don’t take that comment as a criticism, what i’m trying to say is other than the simple layout on sentences and words this book could easily appeal to older teens and adults too. For me the book was an easy fly trough read, which as an adult it should have been. Will the books appeal to boys and girls? I think they will though this novella was probably more girl aimed. I still re-iterate my statement when I finished the first book, this could easily be a sensation such as Harry Potter! This novella reminded me a little of the Enid Blytons Secret Seven and Famous Five books. Would I have bought this for my daughter wen she was younger? Yes this is the type of book my daughter would have been reading at age 10+ as the language and content I feel are suitable from that age. So what did I think? Did I enjoy the book? Yes, I would remind I think it’s aimed at the younger teen. Would I recommend the book? Yes to the appropriate age group. Will I read more of the series? Yes please! Will I read more by Suzy Turner? I will and I have read other books by Suzy.(less) | Notes are private!

MY REVIEW I received this one from Jill Williamson as the copy sent to me by Netgalley was on epub at that time. I received the book free in exchange for my honest review. The cover represents the books really well. I would say the male on the cover is Levi, though the man could be one of the other young Glenrock males I suppose. I think of it being Levi when he gains access to the safelands, staring up at their large somewhat over powering buildings. I like covers tat I can place within the concept of the book. The fontand colours of the title, series name and author name all work well placed at the top of the cover. Now to the book, I admit to being pulled in and hooked almost straight away. The first line of the blurb is a really big statement in relation to the book, as One Choice made by a young man disgruntled at his father appearing to love and care for him as much as his brother does bring disaster to the village of Glenrock. Omar is always being ridiculed by his father as weak and useless, preferring to paint and be artistic tan fighting and hunting for his family. In a temper one day Omar comes across a Safe Lander. Omar seems to think all is problems would be over if he lived in the Safe Lands. Life seems so easy over the other side of the great wall which surrounds the Safe Lands. A plan is hatched . . .Omar agrees a party of Safe Landers should come to his village and persuade the people at Glenrock to move to Safe Lands. In Omar's mind all this will happen in a friendly peacable manner, however his decision to give away the exact location of his village as tragic circumstances. The Safe Landers come to Glenrock, but they don't speak peacefully they take the females and young men by force any of the older males that get in the way are shot and killed. Even the village elder. Once inside the Safe Lands walls the whole story about Omar and the safelander's is made apparent. Obviously the young males and females held Captive resent Omar and see what he did as betrayal. The only hope is Levi. Levi was not captured, can he get into the Safe Lands and rescue them all? There's so much more to this book, like the plague the Safelanders have, the reason they need the young males and the women to help them continue their existence. I really could go on and on about this book. The characters I liked a lot are Jem and Levi, their true love for each other that lasts the whole way through the book, no matter what is happening to them. I also like one or two of the Safe Lander's such as Bender, Lonn and Ciddah the medic at the Highland Harem where the women are coerced to stay. When reading this book a phrase came to mind "the grass is always greener on the other side" but will that be the case for all or in fact any of the Glenrock people. So did I enjoy this book? Loved it, I really felt sucked right into the book, and really enjoyed it. Would I recommend this book? Yes, especially to those who love dystopian books. Would I read a BK#2? Yes please,I'd read Bk#2 now if I could! Will I read more by Jill Williamson? Yes, I have read one of her other books Replication which I also enjoyed lots too. So definitely will be looking out for more books by Jill!(less) | Notes are private!

I received this at quite short notice for me, I normally have my reading planned well ahead, so this was an extra review to fit in! I love the cover, it’s very eye catching, the girls eyes really draw you to them. The girl on the cover is Ven. I also like the font and the mirrored image/reflection of the title, as it fits well the concept of Ven being a reflection/mirror image of Raven. The Authors name is also in a good font and compliments the cover rather than overtaking the cover. Ven is an Imitation. Literally a “spare” scientifically made in case the Authentic ever needs anything such as a limb or an organ they will always have a spare, their imitation will give them whatever they need, without question. That is what an Imitation is created for. . . .Does everyone have an Imitation? No only those who can afford one and are deemed to need one by the creator of them. The Imitations are created and kept in their own community until the day they are needed. When the authentic Raven Rogen’s life is threatened, her father Titus hides her away safely and brings forth her Imitation Ven, in an attempt to draw out the people trying to hurt his daughter. This makes Titus sound like a caring loving father you may think, the reality of how he treats Ven is a totally different matter. Ven is his daughters Imitation and totally expendable, in fact when her job is done, Ven will most likely be terminated. Ven’s mission is to act as if she is the real authentic Raven. No one other than Titus, and head of family security Gus know the truth. Can Ven really pull this off? Can she play the part of Raven convincingly enough? Who are the people trying to harm Raven? Are they really the enemy they seem to be? I literally received this e-arc, put it on my kindle and began reading immediately and I can 100% truthfully say I did not put it down until I came to the end of the book. I really . . . no I mean really loved this book. It’s so well written, it has twists and turns along the way. Things are certainly not all they seem. There’s the whole concept of the Imitations to get your head around, then there’s Ven’s mission as well as learning about the Authentic Raven and her social circles. You also end up comparing Authentic Raven to Imitation Ven and thinking about which one you prefer and why. There’s so much going on in the book, you really are hooked from the beginning right up to the very end. I am already thinking about when I’ll be able to read Bk2, there’s so much potential for this series and where it can go. The characters are brilliant, even Raven! I mean we never actually meet the Authentic Raven as her father Titus has her safely tucked away from all danger in a top secret location. But just because we don’t meet her doesn’t mean we don’t learn about her, her feelings, her family and her friends as well as what type of person she is. I love the character of Ven the Imitation. Ven’s character reminds me a little of Kale from Jus Accardo’s Denazen Series (another Series I love) and then there’s the quiet, gorgeous, suspicious, always alert and there when Ven needs him Linc *sigh*. Oh Wow! What more can I say . . .better sum up before I babble on even more! So did I enjoy the book? Oh yes definitely! Would I recommend? Definitely! Would I read a Bk 2? Yes please asap!! Would I read more by Heather Hildenbrand? I plan to!(less) | Notes are private!

I like the font and styling and placement of the book title and author name they all add to the comedic feel of the book. The blurb gives you an outline of what to expect from the book, and it is spot on. This book is really laugh out loud funny in some places, others are like "Oh my gosh" situations and then theres the "I don't believe it, I mean . . .did that reeeally happen" I do enjoy a light funny read every now and again. This book fits that bill perfectly,it's one of quite a few quirky titles I have bought to read in between my more serious books. I really liked one situation in the book where, Birdie gets her male friend who lives at home with his mum to come around to her place so she can try out the latest Avon waxing kit. Birdie decides to try the kit out by shaving her rather hairy friend's chest. The problem is the hair on his chest is sooo long she has to. . . er cut it down so it's short enough to wax. The scene in the book is just described so well and detailed that you can actually visualise it in your mind! That is just one of many, many stories that Birdie tells us about. The price of the E-Book was great at 77p or around that price too. I wouldn't have paid over £2 for it as it was just for a fun light read. I think the paperback is er..quite expensive though. I don't think I would have paid that much for the it. I did enjoy the book but perhaps not as much as say, the checkout girl book I read, or even the postman one. So did I enjoy the book? Yes, for a light comedy read it was good. Though I did prefer to read it in short bursts rather than reading it like a normal book. It's definitely the type you can pick up and read, then put down, read something else, then go back to. Would I recommend the book? As a comedy dip in and out of book yes. Would I read more by Bridie Jaworski? I would certainly take a look at any other titles by her.(less) | Notes are private!

T...more MY REVIEW I received this paperback ARC from Macmillan in exchange for my honest review. I’ll start with the cover, I really like the UK one the most. The bright orange and the blue back ground make it a striking image on a store book shelf. Though I have to admit I really liked the cover of my ARC too! They both have the by-line "The only thing worse than forgetting your past is remembering it." and you all know I love a good by-line especially if its fit the book as well as this one does! The one negative I have about the cover pictured above (incidentally not on my ARC) is the quote from PC Cast of "An Awesome Book" I'm pleased you too enjoyed the book as I did PC Cast but I don't need to read about the fact on the otherwise perfectly beautiful cover of my book! The story is about a girl. This girl is found in the wreckage of a plane accident but her name doesn’t appear on the passenger list, so no one knows who she is or who her family is. Then this boy appears who says he knows “Jane Doe” as the hospital have named her. Only he appears when no one else is around and then disappears just as suddenly as he appears . .. who is he? Is he even real? The people in the hospital are nice, one even nicknames the girl Violet as her eyes are such an unusual shade of violet. The name sticks and when Violet is released from hospital that is the name that the social services give to her foster family to call her. Everyone thinks Violets memories will come back on their own soon, but Violet isn’t so sure.....things feel odd...to some people she seems robotic and she has inhuman strength which scares her foster family. Wow I read the first 162 pages in one go and if I hadn’t been ill I know I would have just gone on and read the whole book in one sitting. It gets a little confusing at times but that’s good as it allows you to think of plot possibilities and explanations yourself before they are eventually revealed. And when they are revealed? Well I was like What? Oh Wow yeah that’s really good! The books well written, and keeps you hooked into the story wanting to know more and more. It definitely falls into the category of one of those books you don’t want to put down. I think it has humour, danger, and mystery as well as having some sci-fi and futuristic elements in it too. So lots to appeal to different genre lovers. So did I enjoy the book? Oh Yes” Would I read a BK#2? Yes please! Would I recommend? Yes as I said it will appeal to lovers of all types of genre in my opinion. Would I read more by Jessica Brody? Yes I intend to. Books it reminded me of or I would compare it to? Loosely compare it to Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Tempest & Vortex by Julie Cross and maybe a little Divergent.(less) | Notes are private!

Then you read the blurb and learn the solitary girl on the cover is Grace. The cover piques your interest and the blurb reels you in a little further. Would I pick this one up from a bookshelf, yes I'd want to know more about the hunched figure on the front cover. So Grace has ended up pregnant, proving that even the brightest girl can get caught up in the moment by the face of a gorgeous guy and the lies he spouts to get his wicked way with her. Grace's family appear pretty normal, though quite religious, and Betsy Grace's mum is the head of a group that promotes "saving yourself until marriage" so when Grace finds out she's pregnant to say it comes as a shock to her rather strait laced parents is an understatement. Betsy and Brad have always been rather verbal about the fact they are anti-abortion yet the first thing they try to do is force her to have an abortion. When Grace rebels against their wishes they simply stop talking to her, and eventually throw her and her belongings out of her home. So now Grace is pregnant, penniless and homeless too. What about the father of the baby Nick? What will Grace do now? Where will she go, her best friend Jennifer is out of town with her own parents. Grace's stunned that her formerly "loving/caring" parents have seemingly abandoned her. Grace ends up being taken in by a neighbour, who turns out to be an angel in disguise really. And that's all I am going to tell you as really you should read it yourselves. I seriously loved this book. It could be based on a true story as it is really realistic in it's content and what probably happens every day in different parts of the world. The book deals with serious issues such as, under age sex, teen pregnancy, abortion, adoption, and parental issues. All are dealt with in a serious and sensitive realistic way. With how the book ends I'm unsure as to whether there will be another book. There could be I suppose, I would probably have to read it if there was one. The book is really well written and you really feel Grace's point of view, as well as being shown the direction and point of view her parents have too. So did I enjoy the book? Loved it! Would I recommend the book? It's YA at it's best that will appeal to most ages too. My elderly mum is going to give the book a go as well as my 17 year old daughter too. Would I read a Bk#2? Yes, I think I would as there is potential for more things to happen but having said that it could all end with this book too. Would I read more by Laurie Plissner? Definitely, I will be on the look out for more by this author, I love her style of writing and her descriptions of people and situations is really realistic and believable too. MY REVIEW I requested and gratefully received this paperback from Orbit Books with the intention of reading and reviewing giving you my honest opinion....more MY REVIEW I requested and gratefully received this paperback from Orbit Books with the intention of reading and reviewing giving you my honest opinion. So I’ll start with the cover which did initially attract me to the book. It shows a spoon holding a rather “normal” looking somewhat inoffensive tablet. Upon reading the book you find out the tablet is called “The Fix” in simple, basic terms it is a tablet all pregnant women are encouraged and somewhat expected to take. The Fix claims to literally fix any genetic defects whilst the baby is in the womb. The title on the cover is in an attention grabbing red and its name of Intrusion totally fits the book when you read it. The authors name is in the same font but black which fits in with what I see as a clinical feel about the cover. There is also a quote from Iain M Bank, “A twistedly clever, frighteningly plausible dystopian glimpse” I totally agree with Iain M Banks description of the book, but I don’t like the quote being on the front cover! The cover would remain so much more clinical and striking without that quote! The quote should in my opinion be on the back cover of the book, with the quote by Cory Doctrow and the Guardian. It is one of my pet hates, quotes marring the beauty of a front cover, a by-line yes, a quote from another Author or reader no! So now onto the book, as Iain M Bank says, the book has a twisted quality to it. I think it very representative of the increasingly present “big brother” society we are living in. This book and what happens in it re so realistically told that it isn’t a large leap to think it could really happen in the not too distant future. I mean who knows what types of medication the scientists are developing. The book tell the story of Hugh Morrison and his pregnant wife Hope. Hope doesn’t want to take “The Fix” for no other reason really other than she just doesn’t want to, she doesn’t feel the need, her first son Nick who is fit and healthy was not subjected to The Fix in her womb so why should this pregnancy and baby be any different. Also I think like most women hope doesn’t like to feel she is being told what she must do. So when the health visitor brings up her reluctance to take “The Fix” Hope explains her feelings. Bad, bad, move because now she is flagged up in the “system” as an “objector” and “troublemaker”. There are legitimate ways to “get out” of taking “The Fix” you can object on religious grounds, some people do this even though they aren’t really religious but Hope is principled and really doesn’t see that as an option. The society in this book is quite different too, it’s sort of set in the future somewhat, its all very “big brother” is watching you, with cameras in your home watching you as well as in the workplace and on the streets. If you mix with people considered by the police/government to be unsavoury, or take off your monitor ring (if you are a woman & pregnant) that lets the health service know you have “been exposed” to smoking or alcohol etc. For those few who dare to be different and perhaps even rebel a little they can be picked up and harassed. There’s an incident in the book when a young professional woman is picked up by the police and interrogated because she has looked at a wall and seen the same piece of graffiti twice and not reported it! The poor woman is traumatised but too discouraged by the way the system works to even complain. There’s lots of new gadgets and ways of society in this book, but the weirs/strange thing is that I could really believe some of it actually happening. The other aspect of the book is Hugh’s family coming from a small Island surrounded by mystery, and suspicion and strange tales. Hugh’s family are somewhat “different” as they have gene that allows “second sight” could this be a valid reason not to take “The Fix” The book also deals with other people’s reactions to Hope and her impending decision. So what did I think to the book? Well it was rather wordy! (bit like my review)political and I suppose you could say controversial, at times some of the political stuff seemed to drag a little. Having said that I did really enjoy the book. The whole “second sight” issue part of the book was at times confusing, and not really explored as much as I would have liked. I was also a little disappointed in the ending, all that Hope had gone through . . . . and then for things to end as they did. So did I enjoy the book? Yes! On the whole I did. Would I recommend the book? To a patient reader who loves debate and dystopian too, yes. Would I read more by Ken Macleod? Maybe.(less) | Notes are private!

I knew by that point in The Breeders Bk#1 that I would want to read everything and anything in this. The other series I have been like this with is the Delirium Series by Lauren Oliver and of course my most favourite Series ever The Demon Trappers by Jana Oliver. Anyhow back to this review I bought this novella from Amazon for 77p which personally I feel is the perfect price for a novella (if not free of course). I have paid more than 77p for a novella but I don’t like it! The cover is a great depiction of the missed childhood that females have in the world featured in this book. The colouring of the cover is dark, and grey and kind of depressing, just like a females prospects in life. So the blurb of this novella tells us this short tale is about Nessa, and what has happened and what happens to her throughout her life from basically being a slave to a guy named “Big Mike” to being rescued by a gun toting handsome guy called Marlin, through to her having a child ....and ...well I don’t want to give away everything do I? Lets just say that Nessa hasn’t had a great start in life, then when Marlin comes along she doesn’t know whether to trust this handsome rugged guy or maybe try and use him to stay away from the Breeders. Maybe this guy Marlin can protect her, he is a pretty good shot with a gun. All seems to be going well, hiding out form the Breeders, kept safe by Marlin, al be it in a strange and not so nice place to be staying. Then Nessa finds out she is pregnant. . . will Marlin want a baby? What if he doesn’t will he sell her to the Breeders? How can she run from the Breeders when she is physically too big to run? This short novella is written in the same well written style and fast pace as the book The Breeders. I loved it. Without giving spoilers its difficult to explain the other reason I loved it, Mmm lets just say you learn more about two characters who are in The Breeders in this novella and lots of questions are answered as well as you being given the reasons for their maybe strange actions in The Breeders. You definitely need to read The Breeders first and then this novella. Reading the novella would give you too much knowledge when you got to a certain part in The Breeders when you “meet” Nessa. So did I enjoy the novella? Yes Would I recommend? Yes after reading The Breeders. Would I read more in this series? Definitely, ye please whenever there is more available to read .....! Would I read other novels/novellas by Katie French? I would certainly take a good look at them so I guess the answer is yes(less) | Notes are private!

I think the cover depicts the book really well. The cover shows the bleak existence females are faced with. Females that are fertile either hide away in fear and constantly on the run, or they are taken by gangs where they are subject to unmentionable tortures and then sold to The Breeders. Who are The Breeders and why do they exist? The Breeders run a "hospital facility" that takes (or in most cases snatches from the street or buys) females who are of fertile age, and starts a breeding cycle. The females are "fed up" into good health, inseminated, looked after whilst pregnant, they give birth, baby is taken away and the female begins the whole breeding cycle again. Why? Because due to some strange reason females are in short supply most natural births produce boys. So to keep the population going The Breeders run this "hospital" I mean compared to life on the run and the prospect if ever found by a man being raped as women are such a rarity the "hospital" may sound a good thing, a cushy safe protected life. However these females never get to nurture their babies. the babies are immediately taken to be raised by the "nannies" (women who have come out the other side of the "program" and are no longer fertile) and are prepared to become breeders themselves. So does anyone exist outside of the Breeder Institution? Does anyone ever escape once caught? Riley exists and has never been in the Breeders Institution. Her mum, and auntie have, they have The Breeders brand mark on their wrists. They were "lucky" they escaped but now live in fear for themselves being re-caught and for Riley being found out. So riley, her mum, her aunt, live with Riley's younger brother Ethan and Riley's step father (Ethan's father) Arn. The family hide out at an old farm, they have a cow for milk and a couple of pigs. They have to hunt wild animals for food and Arn travels into the nearest town to trade for items such as medicines or food they cannot kill or grow for themselves. Riley wants to go into town with Arn who naturally refuses, it's too dangerous if Riley is discovered she will be taken to The Breeders an may never escape. Riley wishes for more freedom and excitement in her life. . . a wish she comes to regret sooner rather than later when Arn goes into town to trade and doesn't return home. Riley faces a dilemma should she go in search of Arn or try to hold things together at home, they will run out of food soon. . . .Riley's decision kick starts a chain of events that have dire and dangerous consequences for her and her family, as well as some of the people she meets. This book is really well written, it keeps you on the edge of your seat, always wondering what is going to be around the corner. I love how the book also gives you insight into The Breeders and how they became what they are, and do what they do. This book isn't all fluffy and nice, it shows you the grim reality of Riley's possible future if caught by The Breeders, her grim future if caught by any of the roaming gangs, life as a slave at best, and her reality if she is to sty in hiding, how it will be difficult to keep one step ahead of The Breeders and gangs. I could seriously go on and on and on about this book I enjoyed it so much but I want you all to read it for yourselves and enjoy it as I did without having being told too much about it. So did I enjoy the book? Yes Definitely. Would I recommend it? Yes for those who love dystopian, and books with strong female characters. I would point out that the book is more aimed for the mature teen, and adult. Would I read a Bk#2? Yes please as soon as it's available! already found and read the novella in this series. Would I read more by Katie French? Yes I loved her writing style and book pace too. They really aren't enough stars to give this book!!(less) | Notes are private!

I have to admit to liking both covers of this book, though the one on the left, showing the wintery scene is more appropriate. It depicts the "wilds" in winter, that Annabel wishes to escape to. I also like the cover on the right with the beautiful purple flowers that could depict freedom. I had spoke to Lauren Oliver on a forum/questions & answer setting and had expressed an interest in an Annabel novella, as I had read and enjoyed the Hana one so much. And as Lauren said she was seriously thinking of doing an Annabel Novella that I was eagerly awaiting it. I enjoyed learning more about Annabel and how she met Lena's father, as well as what had happened with her own family. This novella gives you a little insight into why Carol (Lena's aunt and Annabel's sister is how she is in Delirium too) I did really enjoy this rather short novella. I think £1.99 is quite expensive for a novella of this length though it also had a short piece of Requiem too. So did I enjoy the novella? Yes. Would I recommend it? Yes to those Delirium fans! Would I read more in the Series? I am seriously looking forward to Requiem I had been desperately hoping for an ARC! Would I read more by Lauren Oliver? Yes, I enjoy her style of writing its so easy to read and flow along with the story.(less) | Notes are private!
