There was destruction, death and Violet losing her memory. Now the faerie world is in hiding from Draven and his evil ways. He has faeries marked and brainwashed and is slowly taking over the faerie kingdom. Violet lost without her memory joins an unlikely group and together they figure out how to stop him. Loved the new characters and the expansion of the world building and what it means to be a guardian and how they are not as perfect as we were first lead to believe.
Ryn is obviously sad and worried about Violet's memory loss but luckily he is easy to fall in love with and we get to see Violet fall in love with him all over again. No lack of swoontastic quotes. I marked many passages in my kindle. I love their dates with the glow worm butts lighting the mood. LOL Lots of great romantic moments even in the middle of a war. But it is war indeed so there is more death and destruction and even some crying on my part which I'm sure you all know I'm a big softie by now.
The enemy used to be someone different in the beginning. He was a character I really liked and then he got pushed into a world he didn't understand and didn't know how to escape from. It was sad that things had to go that way for him. I liked that it was different and quite a turn of events. Not something I had predicted at all but I felt really bad for him. Other than that I was very happy with the way things turned out. Great ending! Great series! So sad it is over :-(
--- "Really?" I feel my eyebrows pinch together. "So . . . we used to argue a lot?" "A lot' would be an understatement." I nod as I try to figure out what kind of relationship Ryn and I had. I find my nod turning into a shake. "That doesn't sound . . . healthy. Or enjoyable." With a win, he says, "There was a lot of kissing too."
"Are you telling me I have to win your heart all over again?" " I guess." "Challenge accepted."
"I mean, I could tell you about the first time you realized you were in love with me. I just thought that might make you a little uncomfortable."
"So if tonight is the last night we ever have, I want to spend it with you."
"Since the moment I figured out that you were the one I wanted by my side for the rest of my life, I've never thought of anyone else."
"What's that?" "Hmm?" His kisses move across the other side of my neck. I slip my hand down his back and into his pocket. "You just want to feel my butt," he says between kisses.

Can definitely see what all the talk is about. Not many books like this are completely from the guy's perspective and I loved that it was. It was also unique that he talked to the reader and his thoughts definitely felt true to a man's thoughts. Also loved all the witty banter, sexual tension, and competition between him and Kate. They were a great couple. Towards the end was a bit much with all his crazy plans to get her back but I loved the ending. (less)

It shows that being friends with boys isn't always greener on the other side. All relationships have problems, arguments, fall outs, and boys are not always easy to understand or communicate with. They lie, keep secrets, and shut you out just the same as girls. The other huge plot point of the book is the dynamic of a being in a band. I wish the synopsis had mentioned this being a bigger plot point because I love books about bands and would have definitely picked it up sooner.
Charlotte has been best friends with Oliver since 5th grade. She writes the songs for their band, Sad Jackal, which also includes her friends Trip and Abe. They had a great summer jamming together. Then when school starts Trip wants to leave the band and begins ignoring her. Trip was really hard to read. They planned to stay in touch and had a great Saturday together and planned to see each other every weekend. At first I thought there was definitely more between them and then he just disappeared and began ignoring her.
Fabian and Eli join the band to replace Trip and Charlotte begins to have feelings for Fabian. Rumors also spread that she is dating Oliver. She starts a friendship with Benji and is thinking about dating him. Boys are really beginning to complicate and confuse Charlotte's life. Charlotte's sister just moved away to college this year and her old best friend Lish ignores her for other cooler friends. Lish was such a bad friend as she only wanted to hang out with Charlotte when Charlotte was doing something interesting or cool. With Charlotte's sister away she does begin to have a closer relationship with her two stepsisters.
The band dynamic is such a huge part of this story as well. Charlotte feels like Oliver doesn't appreciate her as much as he should. She writes the songs but he doesn't give her enough credit. She begins to sing for the band and thinks maybe she should join a girl band that appreciates her more. But the bands don't both take it as seriously as Charlotte would prefer. As confused as Charlotte was for so many things I thought she was really smart and honest with herself and others. She also stands up for herself and doesn't let her friends walk all over her. That is very difficult to do in high school.
So much of the book is about Charlotte figuring out who is a good friend, who she should date, that some friends she wish she could like romantically but she can't, some boys turn out to be gay, some she realizes she likes more than a friend and needs to admit it to herself. I honestly wasn't sure which guy she would end up with! At first I thought I was pretty sure but all the boys were really great and I had wanted her with all of them at one point during my read. I will say that I think it ended perfectly although a little short on the big romantic ending I prefer. But a really touching story of friendship!
--- "I will rise above her, and them, and all of this high school bullshit, and they'll realize what a mistake they made."
"I wasn't aware that was how I felt, either, until it was out. And now that I've said it like that, I'm not exactly sure it is how I feel. But this isn't a piece of paper I can crumple up and throw away. They aren't words I can cross out to start over. Now they're out, and I know they'll hang here, between us, maybe forever."
"That’s your problem, Char. You’re friends with all these boys . . ." (less)

After some huge revelations in the first book, Alex and Lila are on the run. Jack was hurt and is being held at a hospital they need to rescue him from. Teaming up with some unexpected people they devise a plan to rescue him and put a stop to an evil group.
Alex and Lila's romance heats up but at the same time Alex holds back. He wants to wait until Lila is 18 to take things further which is sweet but leaves her frustrated. Lila also worries that Alex's need to protect her is why he stays with her and not because he loves her. Totally ridiculous but she just wants to be sure he is giving up so much because he loves her and not because he feels obligated. She doesn't want to hold him back or ruin his life. He has given up so much for her and Jack.
Alex and Lila are teamed up with an unexpected but very entertaining group. Some hilarious characters with interesting powers. Sadly as I said I don't want to say too much for those that haven't read the first book but the group dynamic is amazing. Some crazy plans are made and executed. Lots of action continues. A hilarious scene with Lila trying to sneak into Jack's room wearing a nurse costume and then someone catches her and she tries to pretend she was wearing it to turn him on. Love when humor is added into the action to keep things fun. More revelations are made. Declarations of love. Explosions. Was a great dualogy! Also loved "The Moment" scene in Alex's POV at the end.
There is a short novella called Tormenting Lila that takes place after this and includes characters from Sarah Alderson's new book, The Sound. I haven't had a chance to read it yet. There will also be a Lila Shortcuts collection of short stories from different character's POVs released in October with a prequel story where I won a contest to be Alex's girlfriend! So cool! So his girlfriend is supposed to be named after me!
--- "What I'm trying to tell you, Lila," he said, his voice husky in his throat, "is that I've always been there, looking out for you, even when you didn't know it - even when you couldn't see me." My stomach flipped. Alex took hold of my hands and squeezed. "Nothing's changed. I'll be right there, I promise. You might not be able to see me, but I'll be there."
He smiled, a little smile, but the sight of it made my breathing speed up. "I've always needed you. For my entire life," I said in a whisper," and I'm always going to need you."
"You're my sister," Jack growled. "He's my best friend. And he brought you back here. I'm going to kill him. He should have been looking out for you, not..." he struggled to find an appropriate word, "doing whatever the hell he was doing with you." (less)

Their strength is tested because someone knows Lily's secret and wants to reveal it. Lo is doing his best to follow the sex rules Lily's psychiatrist put in place. Lily has to learn how to love herself but without self love. This installment has alternative POVs of both Lily and Lo.
I loved getting Lo's POV this time and seeing how he would do anything for Lily. He blames himself a lot for not pushing her home and helping her addiction sooner. Lily actually has similar feelings about not helping Lo sooner. They both have to let that go and just be there for each other now. And they have to learn to let others be there for them. They are used to shutting themselves off and now they have friends and family that know about their problems and want to help.
Lily has made great progress in therapy and is learning that she tries to fill a hole inside her with sex. She just wants to be able to make love to her boyfriend in the normal way. Why can't she be normal? Why can't she stop having sex like a normal person? Even without these characters same addiction you can really feel for them. Everyone has some problem where they have thought at one time why can't they be normal.
I love following all these characters. Lily's sister Rose really cracks me up and I love her with Connor. I am excited they are getting a spin-off book as well and Ryke and Daisy. Ryke cracks me up with the way he loves to say the F-word. He seems like a jerk sometimes but he loves Lo therefore he loves Lily like a sister as well. I also wasn't able to guess who the person trying to reveal Lily's secret was. That was an interesting twist. I can't wait to see where Lily and Lo go next but wherever it is hopefully they remain sober.
Addicted to addicted! LOL Great ending! So much drama but so much progress in the end. Now a long wait till the last one. (less)

It explores the three months that Lo is away in treatment and Lily works on her addiction separated from him. I'm so glad it was longer because I definitely needed a bigger dose to fill my own addiction to this series.
While Lo is away Lil is living with her sister Rose who is helping her find a sex addiction therapist. Lil continues to struggle with not cheating on Lo. I was soooo nervous the whole time chanting in my head please don't cheat on Lo. Three months is a very long time for Lil to go without sex but she throws herself into school and working at Rose's company. She also tries to spend more time with her family and chaperones her little sister Daisy's birthday party with Ryke.
It was nice getting to see Ryke, Lily, and Daisy spend time together. Ryke is kind of a jerk but I think he is a good guy and has the best intentions. He cares so much for Lo that he is willing to watch and help Lil with her addiction to make sure she doesn't hurt Lo. Daisy seems to have her own adrenaline junky addiction.
It really helped to understand Lily by seeing more of her family life. Especially insightful glimpse into their lives and the sisters problems when they attend a party for her dads company. There were also flashbacks showing Lil and Lo's relationship and those were my favorite part of the book. I loved getting to know their friendship on a deeper level and how things changed. It really showed how much they love each other, understand each other, and I think will be good for each other.
Lil worries about how Lo is doing in rehab and if once they get their addictions under control will they still be able to be together. Will Lo still want her? Does she cause him to drink? Will she ever figure out why she is like this? Why can't she have sex like a normal person? Will Lo want to be with someone so broken?
Lil faces her demons and is desperate to get to the bottom of her problems. She so badly wants to love Lo and be with him in a healthy way. I truly felt for her as she wondered why she wasn't normal and desperately wanted to change and worked so hard trying to be better. It is a life long struggle that Lil will have to fight daily but I think the strength of her love for Lo will help her.
This also included the first chapter for the next book, Addicted For Now, and I was so happy because that is when we see Lo return. It was kind of a tease because I desperately need the next book now! As soon as I finished I just wanted to start it all over again.
--- "That's right. Lo put a firecracker in his backpack in retaliation." Her smiles fades. "I wish I had a friend like that."
"You think more perverted things than any fucking guy I know." Guilty.
"Lo," I interject. Please don't leave me just yet. "Yeah?" "I'm waiting for you." I love you.
"This battle is a forever sort of thing."
"I love you," he says again, "and no other man will ever say those words and mean them the way I do."(less)
