Amaury's Hellion is the second book in the Tina Folsom's Scanguard Vampire series and focuses on Samson's best friend, vampire Amaury LeSang. The bookAmaury's Hellion is the second book in the Tina Folsom's Scanguard Vampire series and focuses on Samson's best friend, vampire Amaury LeSang. The book focuses on Amaury and his problem of trying to ease his constant migraines that are the result of being able to feel others emotions. The only way he can temporary escape for the pain temporarily is through sex, but is only part of his curse. He is also cursed to never feel love again thus this lonely existence. That is until he meet a Nina, strong-headed defiant woman who for some reason he cannot feel her emotions, who at the same time stirs something in him that he has not felt since he was a human over 400 years ago. This interesting cat and mouse game with Nina occurs amidst the backdrop of Scanguand bodyguards murdering and committing suicides which he and Samson need to get to the bottom of before it destroys them.
As much as I love this writer I had a difficult time falling in love with this book in the series. My biggest difficulty was not with Amaury, but with Nina. I thought Amaury was a wonderful character who showed strength, toughest and compassion and amidst his superficial exterior at time until we got to understand his inner turmoil and self-hate. The Nina character on the other hand I could not stand. I didn't like her hard-ass attitude and her tough demeanor along with her constant resistance against Amaury.
It got to the point when I reached the sex scenes (which I love reading) I just could not develop any emotional connection with her.
Personally I could not understand and see what Amaury saw as so irresistible about Nina. Based on his own personal history and the reason why he behaved they way he did I felt that Nina was the wrong type of woman for him. I would have enjoyed the book more if he found a woman who was softer, more compassionate and at the same time had a storyline of innocence who would help atone for his sins. Nina was just as damaged as he was and I couldn't feel that this type of person would help him in atoning his sins and making him feel love again. The back and forth fighting between the two of them did get on my nerves at time and just made the connection that Amaury felt for Nina unrealistic if not unpalatable to me. Just me, I just like women in stories with too much of an attitude.
Even though we see brief moments with Samson and Delilah in this book, it was during these moments that I believed the emotional connection between the couple.
I love the series and this book was good just, I would have liked to have seen a different type of woman for Amaury because I really felt for him and thought he deserved better.
Gabriel's Mate is the third installment in Tina Folsom's Scanguard Vampire series and it HOTTER then the previous two books. First I must start off byGabriel's Mate is the third installment in Tina Folsom's Scanguard Vampire series and it HOTTER then the previous two books. First I must start off by stating I LOVED THIS BOOK! This book is not for the faint at heart as it has very explicit sex scenes that will definitely require you to have many cold showers to cool down as you read the book. This series and in particular this book not only has romance and sex but an intriguing storyline that will have you guessing throughout the book.
Gabriel is the head vampire at the New York division of the Scanguard enterprise but has remained in San Franscisco following the incidents in book 2. He doesn't have a woman in his life, in fact most women have repelled from him once they discovered his unusual situation. Thus unlike the other vampires he hasn't had much experience with women or having a relationship with one. Gabriel is probably best described as a vampire who has given up on himself and any form of happiness for himself thus engrossing himself with his work. That all changes once he meets Maya.
Maya is a doctor working in San Francisco when one night as she is walking home when an unsettling sense of fear grips her. Before she is able to reach her home she is attacked. However before the attacker could carry out his deed he is scared off by some Scanguards bodyguards who rescue her and bring her back to the home of the owner of Scanguard (Samson) where Gabriel ends up tending to her. What ensues is a strong emotional development and sexual tension between Maya and Gabriel. However due to Gabriel's condition he feels is not worthy of being loved or that no woman would want him. Surrounding all this sexual tension is the growing mystery surrounding Maya's attacker that has you wondering and guessing as to who and why she was attacked. What follows is the unraveling the mystery behind the attacker but of Gabriel's condition and the aftermath of both revelations.
I highly recommend this book not only for the wonderful chemistry between Gabriel and Maya but also for the wonderful character development where the reader feels a connection to both.
Not only is this a paranormal romance/erotica book but has a good dose of mystery and intrigue that will have you glued to the pages and wanting more. I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out as Tina has a smash hit with this series which is guaranteed to make waves.
