It's not a bad book or bad written, it's just seems amateur to me.
Aubrey need a backbone and a personality transplant. Rapidly. He is annoying. I can't stand people that pass their time to protest or whinning, without ever doing something to change the situation.
I felt no pity for Stregoni in face of his 'relation' with Gille. I do not even want to try and understand people that let other human treat them like that. It's probably cold of my part, I know.
Ruthven's too much manipulator to be sympathetic. The attempt of love story with Aubrey lack completely of credibility, of realism.
As for Gille, the explication of his attitude do not completely excuse it. This allow to better understand him but he remain a cold, selfish bastard. What he do to Stregoni's horrible and I can't excuse that.
I like to know where my personage are from and the fact that the existence of the vampire was not explained, leave me unsatisfied. I think that with what happen in this book, that's something that was important to learn. I like too, to know the world in which they live in. No explication here about that too, (too much common of fantasy writer), not enough description.

I really love it. I really like the interaction between Jaden and Brendan. They were sweet and I enjoyed 'seeing' them fall in love. Even the fact that this book had a lot of sex didn't bother me (hey, they work for a GFPsite, sex's expected))
I agree with the other reviewers, the ending's poor, let me with the impression that the writer didn't know how to finish the book. (less)
Seriously, I try not to be angry at a writer when I dislike a personage but in this case, I am.

(view spoiler)[4.5 stars for Dylen (Why not 5? Because he forgive Rio) 0 stars for Rio. 4 stars for the story itself.
I agree with the others reviewers, Rio's shallow, opportunist and a coward. He didn't even try to be forgiven by himself but had to have the help of the others!! Grrrrr! Angry woman here! How his friends diminished what Rio did, make me want to hurl. They act as is it nothing. The guy was ready to let Dy father die, for fuck's sake. And before seeing Dylan at the palace we don't have any indication that he was thinking of the wrong he did to Dylen (and specifically's Hirlen) and go ask for is forgiveness. He did say that he would have sought for him, but that's easy to say after...
They wanted Dylen to forgive Rio so that they can restart a relationship and be happy??? Why not help him find someone worthy of his love and trust?
When Dylen said "Indeed, I weary of our rift. I would put the past behind us. I would that we called each other friend again.”, I had the impression that it was really only because Dylen's tired of the situation, not because he really wanted to put the pass behind.
And what's with that odious excuse of the rape of Hirlen by Rohyr's father??? He was drunk! So what? That's an excuse for rape???? The guy don't even had remorse? He just go with being the King's consort after that like nothing happened! That's says a lot about him. (hide spoiler)]
When you write a novel about an investigation, at least, do a minimum of research about how it's supposed to work. I stop before...moreHorrible, surrealist.
When you write a novel about an investigation, at least, do a minimum of research about how it's supposed to work. I stop before finishing chapter three. That's probably the most stupid, pervert, non credible cop of the universe. And Sidney...blah! They said that 'all the evidence point to him'. What evidence??? The guy do no seems to have an alibi and he is his the sole beneficiary of Alan. Wow, talk about proof!!!
Frankly, I don't understand how is it that this thing was published. Completely amateur. (less)

I was not even able to finish the first chapter! Completely incomprehensible. We're pull in the middle of a world that even the writer do not seems to understand. The writing's confuse me, a lot. (less)
