My Review: I read Birthmarked some time ago but waited to do my review because I wanted to read the next books in the series before hand. I really have trouble finding the words to describe my feeling for this book. Why? Well because I find it hard to tell other of it's sheer perfection. I know that some of my book friends have told me how amazing the book truly is but I have also heard other say they did not care for it so I was somewhat apprehensive to try it but WOW. I am super glad I did. I have read a number of Dystopian novel in the past couple year but Birthmarked is by far the most unique and inspiring one. There was never a dull moment; such a total page-turner to the very end.
Birthmark takes place in the distant future where the world as we know it is quite different from our own. The population is slowing dying in this post apocalyptic setting. Gaia and her parents live among outer wall of the city of Enclave. Both Gaia and her Mother are midwifes. Gaia mother has taught her everything she knows. Including the harsh protocol in which they must give the three newborn babies each month of the woman outside the wall to the families which dwell inside Enclave. Gaia and her family must do this to survive life on the outside, until one day her parents are taken and put under arrest in Enclave. Now Gaia must find away inside to rescue her parents and fight to understand what strange events that are taking place in Enclave. Her world will soon be turned upside down with the knowledge she finds and will question everything she knew to be right and safe. As the story progresses she will not only come to find everything she once new is wrong but also finds true love on this unexpected journey for the truth.
I just adored everything bit of Birthmarked. The world building was amazing, the character's are so real and beautiful. The story itself was wow, just WOW! I mean I must have cried at least 5 times while reading it. Gaia is a strong heroin with such passion and she really makes the book come alive. I so totally feel head or heels in love with Leon (he is Gaia's love interest in the book). I just could have not asked for a more perfect story. The ending was sublime and I was thinking about Birthmarked days after I read it. Caradh M. O'Brien is a most brilliant writer and she really knows how to take the reader and make the fall in love with with her story. To anyone who has been debating on reading this book and the series. I would so yes please do so. I can not stress this enough, go now and borrow or buy Birthmarked. You will be glad you did. ...more
First Impressions: I was super excited when I first saw that Cat Patrick had put out another novel. I just adored Forgotten when I read it last year and feel in love with the authors writing style and how the stories she creates just suck you in and wont let you stop reading until the very end. So once I found out that Cat had come out with a new book I was very happy. I could not wait to drive in and read Revive. I was going into reading the book with very high expectations since I loved her first novel and WOW, this one just blew me away right from the first page! Oh, and look at the cover! I mean isn't it just so awesome and just the way she peaks through what looks like a thin blue membrane wondering what's on the other side.
My Review: Revived was a super fast read for me and not because it was short or the pace was fast but simply because the story itself TOTALLY ROCKED! I love to read, plain and simple but a book like this makes me see all over again why I love to read so much. Revived is one of those books where once you get done with it you feel the urge to read it again, yes it is that good! Everything about it was so sublime. The unique story-line, the evolved character's, the mystery and the thrill of what will happen next all wrapped up into a sweeeet package!
The main character, Daisy is killed in a bus crash on a icy road when she was young and died. She was brought back to life by an experimental drug called Revive and since then has died four more times since she first was brought back. A "hush hush" government agency makes and supplies the drug to the kids who died in the crash, thus for experimenting with the drug so to one day release it to the public for sale. After dying again, Daisy is being made to move to another state with yet another name change. Daisy hopes to stay here and make friends this time.
On the first day of school she meets Audrey who quickly becomes friends with her. Audrey has a brother Matt who Daisy meets the on same day. Audrey and Daisy begin to hang out with each other after school and grows into being best friends. Daisy feels a certain connection with Audrey and for her brother Matt. As Audrey and Daisy become closer friends and Matt and Daisy begin to develop strong feelings for each other, Daisy finds out a heartbreaking secret about Audrey. Audrey is very sick and is not expected to live much longer. Daisy is crushed by this news and hopes that maybe the drug Revive would somehow work on her friend so she would not have to die but not all things about Revive are good. Daisy will soon find out that the man behind "Revive" is playing God and has other plans for the drug.
As I feel I have given to much away as it is I will stop but let me tell you this book was simply amazing! The story keep is entertaining and had me immersed throughout the whole book. There was never a dull moment. I absolutely loved Daisy, Matt and Audrey which is rare because I seems I always tend to find one character who I loave. The book moved along in a fast pace and author Cat Patrick always seems to find away to connect to her readers throughout the book. Revive had me crying, laughing and just wanting to read faster and faster to know what would happen next. Everyone should no... NEEDS to run out and get this book! If your like me and loved Forgotten or just loves to read a book that will blow your mind then definitely read Revive!
Final Thoughts: None needed because you can plainly see how much I loved the book. =D ...more
First Impressions: Let me first talk about this gorgeous cover. I must say at first glance I fell head over heals in love with it. My favorite color First Impressions: Let me first talk about this gorgeous cover. I must say at first glance I fell head over heals in love with it. My favorite color has always been purple and I love how the whole cover has such a beautiful purple hue, even her face. The word "SLIDE" on the cover looks like it is literally sliding on the cover making for a unique effect. After reading what the book was about I knew I wanted to read it as soon as possible. I was so happy when I found it was at my library. I read, no DEVOURED this book in one day!
My Review: Slide is a highly anticipated debut novel of 2012. This book in no way will disappoint the reader, with twists and turns throughout that will having you guessing who did what and why. Slide is a whole new kind of urban fantasy novel unlike anything out there. The main character "Vee" or Slyliva has a very unique gift or curse if you ask her. Vee was diagnosed with what is thought to be narcolepsy. She falls asleep or passes out randomly, but what really happens is she slides into another person's body while out. She has no control when she slides or into who. Most times the person she will slide into will have some kind of connection with Vee while she is awake. One day at school Vee finds out while accidently sliding into her sister that her sister's friend Amber and her are planning to play a mean joke on a girl named Sophie who used to be friends with them. After this cruelty, Sophie is depressed and crying wondering why someone would do something so mean. That night while Vee is star gazing something pokes her from within her pocket and she begins to feel woozy. Before she knows it Vee slides into Sophie's room. She does not who she has slide into but see that the person is wearing gloves and holding a long silver blade. Sophie lies on her bed sliced up and blood is everywhere. Now it is up to Vee to find out who killed Sophie and made it look like a suicide. This book is packed full of so much mystery and suspense. I never knew what would happen next or who she would Slide into to try to uncover who really killed Sophie. I was so engulfed in the story needing to know what would happen next I did not remember to eat lunch. The author's writing style was flawless and the pace of the story was lightning fast especially when you MUST know what will happen next. I love a book that will keep me guessing and end with a "I never saw that coming"! Wow, just WOW!! I would definitely say that Slide is one of the best novels I have read in a long time. Everything about this book is exceptional!
Final Thoughts: If I could tell author Jill Hathaway one thing it would have to be "Slide rocked my socks off"! I was not expecting such an exhilarating story and one that I could read over and over with no lack of excitement. Vee was just awesome with a CAPITAL, V!! The ending was a "I did not see that coming" moment and I am still trying to pick my chin off the floor. I SO NEED the next book in this series, but while I wait I have the chance to tell each of you to go out NOW and buy or rent SLIDE. YOU will not be sorry you did. =D ...more
