Characters to root for, characters to endure and others to slap, strangle and maybe spit on—things I wouldn't recommend doing in real life.
The sex scenes are sensual without being explicit. They are expressions of affection and not at all instructive—but you won't mind, much ;).
As for the early 20th century conservative Christian beliefs, those are the characters', not mine, so they fit within this story even as they do not fit in my life. That's what fiction is about.
It was a fantastic epically long tale that I truly enjoyed reading while breaking in my Kindle app.
