I also liked how Eric mixed in some Spanish dialogue into the story. If you like fractured fairy tales with a twist, I'd recommend picking up this book.

Last week I was traveling back to the states from Spain, and had a lay over in Madrid. While there I visited a book store at the airport, and immediately picked this book up. I love sayings, and I love books full of sayings. This book has become one of my favorites.
This book is one that is full of inspirational and uplifting sayings from various historical figures, as well as shared letters and emails from the author. This is a book that can be easily be read in one sitting, or if you're on 9 hour plane right like I was, it can quickly be devoured then. Most importantly, this is a book written to give inspiration to and uplift it's reader each day of the year. Each quoted page has date featuring the month and the day of the month, so that readers can easily find the day's quote.
The thing I love about this book, is that it's a book for kids, tweens, teens and adults. There is something for everyone in this book. It's one I highly recommend picking up, if you haven't already.

WISH is about an elephant couple who patiently wait for their wish, a baby. They have to wait a long time. Through out all their waiting, and wishing, they do things together. They wish, they build, they learn, and they travel. They keep going, and wishing. Through out all their waiting, and waiting, they never stop wishing. Then one day, their wish comes true, and a sweet little baby elephant arrives.
I loved the delicate way Matthew Cordell told the story. WISH is written and the illustrated in a way that gave the story a whimsical feel. Which was great. It kept the story simple. Making it easy for young children to enjoy and understand the story. WISH is a sweet story that all families will relate to.
At the heart of the story, is a message about not giving up on your wishes (dreams). In a few careful way Matthew hints at how long some couples have to wait for their wish, their baby to arrive. In the story, as in real life, at the heart of makes a family a family, is love. I think all parents who have wished for a child will enjoy this, as well as children who have become their parents's wish. ...more

Why be a slimy, wet, bug eating frog when you can be another animal? That's what little frog wants to know. He's tired of being a frog. He wants to be something else. Something like an wise old owl, or a warm and fuzzy cat or a rabbit. After all he can hop, and so can a rabbit. Even being a pig who eats garbage doesn't seem so bad. As little frog finds out, many of the things these animals can do, are things he can't do. In fact, out of all the animals he wants to be, not one of them eats bugs like he does. Though he's told he can't be anything other than who he is, the young frog still has hope in changing. That is until he meets a hungry wolf. Lucky for frog, wolves don't eat frogs, but they sure do enjoy eating many of the other animals frog wanted to be. Thanks to wolf, frog realizes that being a green, slimy, bug eating frog isn't so bad after all.
With great illustrations, plenty of laughs, and a great message about being happy with who you are, I Don't Want To Be A Frog is a book that will be read over and over again. I highly recommend this one. ...more

It's action packed, and easy to read. Unlike some easy to read books, this book's pages contain the right amount of easy to read words. I felt like each of the words are ones first and second graders should easily be able to read. Each page contains great illustrations that will keep readers engaged with the story.
My daughter and I loved this book. It's full of adventure, heart, and the best part, is that it is about Princess Magnolia. Princess Magnolia is not a normal Princess. I mean, she is a Princess, and she wears the things you'd except a Princess to wear, and she does the things you'd excerpt a Princess to do. But, she has a secret. Princess Magnolia is also, the Princess in Black.
The Princess in Black is not afraid of anything. Unlike Princess Magnolia who wears Pink, the Princess in Black wears all black. Since Princess Magnolia lives close to wear the monsters live, it's up to the Princess in Black to stop them. When a big Blue Monster tries to take some goats, it's up to the Princess in Black to save the day. Luckily she doesn't have to face the monsters alone. She has her trusted horse by her side. And yes, he too has his own disguise.
I love that the story is about a girl who can be both a Princess and a great heroine. It shows kids that they can be whomever they want to, and have fun doing it. My daughter identified with Princess Magnolia, as she loves to dress up as a Princess, as well as done a mask, and dress up in cape, and save the day.
This is a fantastic book, and one I'd highly recommend picking up. Don't let the beginning reader comment throw you off. This is a fabulous chapter book I think fans of all ages will enjoy. I won't tell you my age, but it's long past the beginning reader stage, and I loved it, and I look forward to reading it again. It's no surprise that it ended up on the New York Times Best Sellers List. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
