Or who makes you yawn and why do you sometimes get a song stuck in your head? Well William Joyce's newest must have read for children answers all those questions and more! The MISCHIEVIANS are responsible for those things and much more. What? You never heard of them? Neither did I until I read this book and now everything makes sense.
I knew there had to be a reason why we can have so many half pairs of socks, and why I always yawn, and why for some reason in my kids's bathroom there's never any toilet paper let, and yet everyone claims it wasn't them. We have a bad case of The MISCHIEVIANS. Those pesky little creatures are up to no good.... well not really no good. They're up to some good. After all they're doing what they know how to do.
After reading this book I feel like I finally have the answer to a question no one has been able to answer. These guys are responsible for the things that happen around our house that no one can explain. William Joyce gives the best answers to my burning questions. Chalk full of William Joyce humor, The Mischievians is a book that both children and parents will enjoy. This book has brought plenty of laugher during our bed time reading. It's also encouraged my kids to use their imaginations to come up with their own Mischievians. At the end of the book William left a page for kids to document their own Mischievians, and he wants the kids to share it with him. You never know, he just might use it in one of his up coming books (see the back of the book for more details).
I will say I loved some of William's other books more than this one, but it gets a solid 5 stars from my kiddos who loved this book.

I loved being back in the Mephisto world, and getting to know more about one of my favorite Mephisto Brother's, Phoenix. One of the great things about this book is if you've not already picked up the series, you can still pick up this book, and read it and understand enough about the world, the history, and enjoy all the swoon worthy moments that happen, without being confused. Trinity does a great job at giving the reader everything that is needed to not feel lost if you've not read this series before, and if you have, she does a fabulous job at recapping things. I will note, this particular story, unlike the others, is New Adult. The first books in the series, The Mephisto Covenant, and The Mephisto Kiss are Young Adult.
Trinity's writing is fabulous! Each story, and especially this one has a distinct voice, and I love that this story is told from both Mariah and Phoenix's point of views. The writing in this book is spot on, the storyline flows beautifully, and the pacing is perfect. Really this book is one that once I sat down to read it, there was no stopping until I was done. It's incredibly easy for me to get wrapped up in Trinity's series. The romance, the characters, the world building, the story arc, everything is crafted together perfectly, and I loved it. There's a little bit of everything. There's plenty of sizzling romance, there's heartbreak, action, love, friendship, danger, intrigue, and choices. Not to mention some incredible characters.

You know a guilty pleasures author has done their job when you find yourself yearning for the two main love interests when they're not in every seen together. Okay, maybe that's also called being greedy, but I can't help it, I loved Reese and Pepper.
Pepper is a character I totally love. She's that sweet, innocent, girl next door that you'd love to be friends with. She's that responsible one who's doing all that she can to support herself, and in doing so has a set of great friends who urge her to have a little fun. Well that, and Pepper's best friend's brother is now on the market and she wants him to notice her as Pepper, and not his little sister's best friend. Enter the hot, local bar tender who just so happens to also be Pepper's knight in shinning armor. What is there not to love about Reese!?! Not only is he extra swoon worthy, he has manners, is respectful and he's not afraid to say it how it is. Yeah, hot.
Innocent Pepper just met her match! Reese isn't afraid to show her what it's like to be desired sexually, and boy does Reese have the touch. He easily breaks down Pepper's shy and unsure what to do in the bedroom walls, but does so in a way that doesn't make her feel pressured or embarrassed. Reese is Pepper's perfect, patient teacher. I loved how Reese made Pepper feel, and I liked seeing how Pepper owned that she wasn't an experienced person in the bedroom, and I loved her for that, as did Reese (snickers). Talk about hot charter chemistry! Pepper and Reese have that and then some. As a reader, I love that Sophie made Pepper a relatable realistic character in that way. I feel that books often times gloss over what it's like the first time and Sophie Jordan made it real in this book.
Aside from all the hotness, I enjoyed watching Reese and Pepper slowly fall in love. These two definitely have chemistry, and care for each other, but there's so much more to a relationship than that. They both had a rough up bringing, which makes it hard for both of them to let someone else in and to trust someone else. I loved seeing the two of them slowly put their guard down, and let the other in. When Pepper and Reese started doing just that, it totally changed the dynamics of their relationship, and I loved watching how they allowed themselves to fall in love with each other. I thank Sophie for slowly allowing their relationship to develop and build. It was sweet, sensual and totally swoon-worthy! Had it been rushed it would have ruined the story for me.
This book is a guilty pleasures book in every sense! It's a hot, swoon worthy book that you can easily spend the afternoon reading. Trust me, you'll want to. I'm a huge Sophie Jordan fan and I highly recommend picking this book up!

I love how she's able to take a beloved fairytale and not only give is spin, but include some mythology into her story. This makes for a read that fans both young and older alike can enjoy. Instead of this story centering on Sleeping Beauty herself, we get to see that the sleeping curse started long before Princess Aurora was ever born. This curse dates back to when her mother, the now Queen, was a baby.
I loved that while the story spans over time that includes both Aurora and her Queen mother, it focuses on the two sisters that Beauty has, Aurora and Luna. I enjoyed getting to read about the two sisters. Aurora is every bit the kind of Princess I picture in a fairytale. Her younger sister, the feisty, fearless Luna is the kind of Princess I totally love, because she doesn't care about what's she's suppose to. Instead she wants adventure to do what she feels she's destined to do, and that is not to marry a Prince. It's the bond these two sisters have that totally won me over.
True to each of Diane's previous fairytale retellings, this book is packed full of adventure and fun. When the curse threatens to take hold of Aurora, it's Luna who steps in to help save her. It's her feistiness that will be vital in her quest to keep her sister from falling under the dreaded curse. The adventure starts when these two daring Princesses set off together on the quest to put an end to the curse, and track down the one person who can remove it. Finding her won't be easy and time is against them.
From the dangers on the high sea, to dangerous land creatures, and figuring out how to out smart an ancient fairy who created the curse, these two Princesses prove that they can do anything. I loved that it's during this part of the story we get to see some of the mythology that Diane incorporated into Aurora's story, come to life, and the twist it plays in the storyline. Thankfully these two Princess have a little help along their way. They definitely discover more than they bargained for in this journey. If traveling wasn't hard enough, Luna has to make sure her sister doesn't fall asleep. If she does, the curse will be in place for 100 years!
This fairytale takes what I loved about the original telling, turns it upside down, creating a story that I absolutely loved and wanted much more from. Diane's middle grade books have become some of my favorites. I love what she's been able to do with her fairytale retellings. Not only is her storytelling exciting, she's given me books I can read with my daughter, and for me that's priceless. Diane's books are ones I highly recommend picking up. These are great for older elementary school readers, and middle grade readers. (less)

Fueled by love, laced with magic, and embedded with danger, CAPTIVE is a spell binding read that will leave paranormal romance fans wanting more.
A.D. Robertson knows how to write fantasy, sizzling character chemistry and create a world just as in enchanting as it is dangerous. Filled with romance, passion, magic and plenty of danger, CAPTIVE The Forbidden Side of Nightshade gives fans of Andrea Cremer's YA series NIGHTSHADE, and readers new to Robertson's writing something to love. Really fans of adult and paranormal romance are going to love this read.
I have long been a fan of A.D. Robertson's YA series, which is written under Andrea Cremer. Many of the things I loved about her YA books I found present in CAPTIVE, but taken up a few more notches to the adult level. While this book is set in the Nightshade world, it is not for the younger crowd. It's swoonworthy, sexy, passionate, and hot. From her characters, to her world building, the story arc, the writing, fantasy elements and of course the sexy times, this is one book I could definitely classify as a Mundie Moms guilty pleasure. You don't have to read A.D. Robertson's young adult series to follow along and understand everything that's going on in this book. Robertson does a beautiful job at creating an world that fans of that series will love being back in, and new fans won't get enough of.
