She'll do just about anything to ensure a brighter future for herself and her little sister. This is where the game, Panic, comes in.
A traditional dangerous and high stakes game, Panic has been played by Seniors for years. It is dangerous and has its share of victims but the payoff is enough to make it worth it for those stuck in this dead end town.
Panic is incredibly suspenseful with amazing world building and even more amazing characters. This is a stand alone book which I find disappointing because it was THAT good!

I found it refreshing that it was told in Decker's point of view as he watched events unfold around Delaney.
I must admit, I'm disappointed this isn't a trilogy. I love the characters, the premise and the world building.

Ms.Kate took a new paranormal element that at times felt a bit unrealistic, but hey, that's exactly why I read. If I wanted reality, I'd just sit back and watch my own life! That's the beauty of Teardrop, there are aspects of the book that brought home a certain realness. For instance, the characters, I felt Eureka, the main character's pain and lonliness - her sense that nobody could understand her. I felt the love that her best friends Cat and Brooks had for her. And then there's Ander... Hmmm.... you'll have to read Teardrop to find out the exquisiteness and complexity of Ander!
I look forward to reading the next in the series because quite honestly, this new paranormal element has me quite intriqued!(less)

Amy Bartol has created one of the most fantastical series that I've read in a long time. I think it's a true testament to an authors abilities when you not only love the good guys but when you also fall in love with the villans!
The story's premise is amazing. It has never faltered nor has it given me pause to think that she is just making things up as she goes along. Everything in this series is happening for a reason and I absolutely love, love, love the characters. Amy creates this incredibly magical world that drags me in deep and holds me enthralled until the very last page. As with any fantastic author, there isn't just one thing that holds me. It's that unique ability to truly create another world - a world that is so fascinating, so amazing and so utterly addictive that I literally can't get enough of it!

Amy has created characters that have such depth of emotion, so much so that I've actually formed an emotional connection with them - seriously! I take my reading very seriously and when I find characters that I relate to, I become very invested in them. I am extremely invested in these characters! One of the things that I love is that Amy takes the time to write her dialogue in each characters 'accent'. Now, I've seen that this is a problem for a few. Not so for me. I love reading Russels accent, Brennus's accent, etc... to me, this just authenticates the characters originality.
No rehashing of the synopsis here, just my completely honest opinion and that is that this is one of the most amazing series that I have ever read. Hence the fact that I'm reading each one of her books in a day. I am now one of Amy Bartol's biggest fans and count myself so very lucky to have found her books!
This is a series that is well worth reading.(less)

Character driven, plot driven and all around fantastic. Amy is now one of my most favorite authors ever. Bringing a new concept on the often overused Angel themes, Amy brings a freshness that is hot, intriguing and suspenseful.
This is a series that is well worth reading and an author that is well worth watching!(less)

Ms. Ryan really knows how to keep her readers on the edge of their seats. Nerve was action packed and had some great characters that were easily relatable. The premise of the book is something that I could almost see happening in the not so distant future. No rehash of the synopsis, I'll just say that if you're looking for a fantastic suspense filled read, Nerve will not disappoint.

The characters are so well fleshed out that I feel like I really know them and actually care about what happens to them. It took me a long time to get to 'The Evolution of Mara Dyer', not because I wasn't completely into the series but because I had personal issues going on that made reading/reviewing in 2013 a little more difficult. On that note, I am so happy to say that the minute I picked up TEofMD, I was right back in Ms. Hodkin's wonderful world and I thank her for that!
There's no real sense in rehashing a synopsis when it's been done 100+ times but I'd like to tell you why I love this series. Aside from what I told you about the realistic characters, I'd like to discuss the plot. I love, love, love the plot! Imagine Mara's power! Yes, it would kind of suck but... hey, it would come in kind of handy in the right circumstances, too, right? Then combine that with Noah's amazing power! On the subject of Noah! He and Mara are Yin and Ylang - two opposites that complete each other. One is death, the other life. Mara spoke to Noah before the two had met... fate, right? I like to think so! Also, the events in TEofMD are fantastic with a cliff hanger ending. I loved the sleuthing that Mara and Noah dd together and I loved the romance they shared. It felt real and it felt right. TEofMD is not a one dimensional novel, it had depth and addresses issues that many young adults face outside of the paranormal and I commend Ms. Hodkins for bringing in real issues amidst a fictional novel.
Ms. Hodkin is a true master with story telling, perfect plot with a perfect storyline - these amazing skills combined with amazing characters makes for a one-sit-read for this reviewer. (less)

It had a great plot filled with tension, light romance and a serious case of whodunnit!
It's a story about Wick and her younger sister, Lily whom fortune has finally smiled upon after years of abuse and neglect. Wick will do anything to protect her sister including the continuance of her killer hacking skills to put away some bank - you know, because in Wick's life - All good things end. Avoiding her drug dealer abusive father who is an escaped convict to finding out who killed her former best friend is only some of the lenghts she will go to to ensure that Lily remains safe.
Wick is a heroine that I admire. She makes hard choices and has a razor sharp wit while still remaining vulnerable. She's very real yet still a bad ass!
I read this book in one night because I literally couldn't put it down! I look forward to whatever Ms. Bernard writes next!(less)

The premise was excellent and I am a sucker for just about any dystopian theme but unfortunately the character depictions fell short... way short. The main character, Decca, who Jace tries to portray as intelligent actually comes across as incredibly dense. It makes for a really unbelievable plot when incredibly stupid comments come out of her mouth every other sentence.
He also makes use of the ridiculously outdated and hugely annoying slang of putting a Z on the end (or sometimes in the middle of) of every word that, quite frankly, almost made me stop reading. Things like "Dizney Battlefieldz", "Hover Boardz", "Bad Kidz" (when literally referring to bad kids, etc... If this wasn't bad enough, he called the area where most the story took place "The Playa" along with other equally random albeit consistent 90's themed ongoing slang that got so repetitious and obnoxious that even if the book had been good - which it wasn't, it would have taken away from it. These are just some examples of the consistent irritation I encountered while reading I Am Alive. I could have put up with this if the plot line was in accordance with the main characters development but one minute she's literally making the most moronic of statements and the next I'm supposed to believe she's a closet genius? Sorry Mr. Jace, not believable. Decca never grew enough as a character to get from point A to point B - meaning her character growth from moron to heroine made no sense.
Again, the concept was there... it was the execution of the story that was sorely lacking.(less)
