Okay, I've read this entire series over a period of 4 days and I must say it has tremendous entertainment value. I love the idea of the different Nephiliam Factions and the way that Ms. Moore tied it all in with her new Countenance Series (which I also read). I'm going to review the series thus far in this review. It may confuse some as to why I gave such high stars after they read my review but again the books had great entertainment value and a kick butt theme. I just had a few bones to pick.
Here's one problem: Skyla, the main protagonist, can be somewhat of a let-down. She achieves this amazing wonder-girl status without doing anything but looking good, often acting the brat and leading 3 dudes on... Yes, I realize that it's the main part of the story - she's supposed to be torn over her choice of men - but she often goes between the three in as little as a few hours, making out with them, getting naked (you get the picture) It's no wonder people think she's a slut. I'd like to see her pine a little more over them and be a little more 'Love the One Your With' in the sense of who she's actually dating as opposed to literally 'Loving the One She's With' at the moment. It's not until the 7th book that she actually impresses me beyond her sense of humor and her sense of loyalty - she is hilarious - and actually takes the faction wars serious. She is extremely loyal to her dudes, though, and in all fairness I give her props for going above and beyond for them. Skyla will do anything for those she loves and I admire that in anybody. What she goes through throughout the series for love is both terrible and beautiful.
Another problem I had is with some of the inconsistencies throughout the books, i.e. Skyla is seventeen yet she has a birthday and turns seventeen again, Drake says he knows Bree is pregnant yet a few chapters later he doesn't know she's pregnant (as evidenced by Bree saying she's going to tell him at Prom after Skyla talks to Drake about it), Skyla and Gage getting naked by the lake and getting thrown into a faction war yet Gage is miraculously dressed and gives her his T-shirt... it's things like this that kind of drove me a little nuts. There were multiple inconsistenciess throughout the books but I can't remember them all and I didn't jot them down.
But... it still didn't deter from how much I enjoyed the books. The world that Ms. Moore created is amazing and the characters are awesome. I enjoy the Oliver brothers that torture Skyla with their devastating charms and Dudley who is another that keeps her hopping. There is plenty of action and adventure, steamy romance and love to keep those pages flying - obviously as I read this entire series in such a short time :o] I loved the humor that Ms. Moore injected and the cat fights between the Paragon Island home-girls and Skyla along with how she integrated the Countenance series into The Celestra series.
All in all, despite the few grievances I had, I really enjoyed this series and I look forward to the next book.

This is the second book in The River of Time series by Lisa T. Bergren and it has completely captivated me. I read Cascade in under a day and putting the book down was actually painful! When I absolutely had to put it down-can't read in the shower-I was thinking about it. It affected me that much! I had to know what was going to happen next. Ms. Bergren is a master at keeping the suspense and tension growing until I was cheering with the victories and weeping with the losses.
The River of Time series starts with Waterfall, then Cascade and followed by Torrent. Cascade is wondrous! The very idea of being able to go back in time is phenomenal to me. Cascade is full of romance, battles, politics, treachery, courage and bravery along with so much more! Watching the emotional growth of a 17 year old girl, Gabriella as she realizes that for the first time in her life, she truly feels alive. It takes brushes with death, torture and severe grief for her to realize that every minute of every day is a gift. Gabriella has won the heart of Lord Marcello Forelli and in turn, Marcello has won the heart of Gabriella. Is the love between them enough for Gabi to stay in The Dark Ages?
I urge everyone to read this epic fantasy of time-travel romance set in a The Dark Ages when a simple cut or impacted tooth could be a precursor to death, when political unrest and battle is a daily event especially when the Betarrini Sisters, Gabriella and Lia beloved by the Sienese and fondly nicknamed the 'She-Wolves of Siena' for the instrumental roles they play in the war against the Fiorentini. The sisters show great bravery and courage along with familiarity with weapons such as a bow and arrow and a sword. They are not beloved by everyone though and the enemies they make among the Fiorentini will stop at nothing to capture them, especially Gabi, the beauty who has captured the love of one hunka burnin' love. With danger lurking at every turn, Gabriella remains true to her heart and her courageous nature, being the ‘love’ of Marcello has made her an even bigger target but when it comes to protecting those she loves, Gabi will stop at nothing to ensure their safety.
A better review to come-I just wanted to share some of what the book is about as the synopsis really doesn’t do it justice! Look for my review in the upcoming week! ...more
